University offers coming in?

Just for nosiness and due to excitement about DS’s application going in, wondered if we could have a thread with people sharing offers as they are received, during this early phase.

Has anyone had an offer yet? Who will be first?

And totally realise that most won’t have applied yet and won’t do so for months and that’s absolutely fine and more normal.

I agree distance is important for lots of DC, certainly for DD, and it's one of the reasons she discounted Durham. Her choices are all 2-3 hrs by car. (Others were off the list for being too close.) For most courses there's plenty of choice, they don't have to go hundreds of miles away unless they want to. I think she would have made an exception for Oxbridge but nowhere else.

Hi, my ds has applied for Natural Science at Leeds, Durham, Bath, Cambridge and UCL and so far as only 1 offer from Leeds. He has achieved grades and is working this year. The wait is driving me mad. He’s not bothered and is so laid back about the whole process.

ShanghaiDiva · 26/11/2023 12:39

@MerchSwyddEfrog my dd has also applied to Bath for natural sciences and received on offer on Friday evening, looks like they are just staring to come out.

mondaytosunday · 26/11/2023 12:43

Looks like mainly stem offers coming out of Bath so far.

MerchSwyddEfrog · 26/11/2023 19:57

@ShanghaiDiva @mondaytosunday lets hope he hears soon then! Also hope he’s hears from Cambridge too, he hasn’t heard from them either. He did apply for one of the notoriously slow colleges.

mondaytosunday · 27/11/2023 08:55

@WombatChocolate he will he will! I wonder if unis appreciate the anxiety they create when they start making offers to one area and not the other!

Ds ucas application went 10 days ago
Only applied to London universities and he has not had any offers yet.
He's ok about it but as predicted 3x A* I'm surprised he's not even had an insurance offer but he says it's how it is with London universities.

KCL have a time frame of 6 weeks which they informed DS of on receipt of his application. DS got an offer pretty much at the end of that.

UCL don't offer until after the equal consideration deadline.

DS had an offer probably with in a couple of weeks for QMUL.

I would imagine your DS will start getting offers through soon.

Some of the other more competitive London unis are also normally late to respond so I wouldn't worry.

sambamyty · 27/11/2023 16:53

Dd has received a rejection from Newcastle . Met the A level requirements but one grade off the maths gcse . Also qualified for a contextual. Seems a bit harsh but still has Lancaster in the bag.

MommaZenZone · 27/11/2023 17:12

My DD has received TWO invites for interview at Oxford today (to read Arabic with subsid in Aramaic). One from Balliol and one from CC. Is this something new or might it be a mistake? They're on different dates, so maybe worth going to both to double the chances of an offer.??

Revengeofthepangolins · 27/11/2023 17:20

@MommaZenZone If you look upthread you will see discussion of how different subjects have different approaches to how many colleges initially interview. Many have two colleges doing so initially. It will be the same for all candidates. The subject websites generally explain this although it isn't always easy to track down the info.

Revengeofthepangolins · 27/11/2023 17:21

Not upthread - on the Oxbridge thread

Revengeofthepangolins · 27/11/2023 17:23

On the London universities it totally varies by subject. Presumably for the poster above, their child's subject has a six week rule at KCL but this isn't true for all KCL subjects. Equally, not all UCL subjects wait until the January equal consideration date. Some London subjects can indeed run very late, but not all.

RepetitiveMotion · 27/11/2023 17:38

Offers received within a week of UCAS submission for Nottingham and Birmingham. Waiting on Exeter and Lancaster.

Apologies, I assumed it was a general admissions thing rather than subject specific. Then again, I've not yet heard of any UCL offers in any subject, although they may have happened of course.

Pleasealexa · 27/11/2023 19:08

@sambamyty that's so disappointing for your DD but hope she isn't too despondent rejection is either redirection or protection. The right place for her will make the offer.

Summerbay23 · 27/11/2023 19:09

@RepetitiveMotion which subjects out of interest? Thanks

Pleasealexa · 27/11/2023 19:11

@MommaZenZone most definitely go to both. Pop over to the Oxbridge thread as there was an explanation about 2 colleges interviewing. it is usual to have 2 interviews - if resources are not available in one college there will use interviewers at other college.

Geography

mondaytosunday · 27/11/2023 19:31

@sambamyty that sounds harsh! But it might not be the gcse grade - could be they had many applicants with above standard offer grades? Who can say - unless a mathsy degree subject?

sambamyty · 27/11/2023 19:36

It's compsci so yes a maths heavy subject. She has an a level and gcse in compsci so has proven she is capable without .

MerchSwyddEfrog · 27/11/2023 19:41

Ds just got rejected from Cambridge. I did wonder if he would get an interview as he has achieved grades on A star A star A and it’s just so competitive. Oh well let’s hope he gets offers for his 3 other choices.

TheOnlyMrsW · 27/11/2023 19:43

@sambamyty that's a shame, was Newcastle high on the list in terms of preference? One of DD's friends has been invited for audition today (performing arts) after submitting their form on Friday so she's a bit despondent about not hearing more already. I've reminded her that her application only went in on Thursday night so it will be looked at as soon as they can!!! She has had an email from Leeds though to ask for her to apply for Access to Leeds so 🤞

loobylou44 · 27/11/2023 20:35

@RepetitiveMotion dd got an offer from Lancaster for Geography last week 9 days after submission. Fingers crossed you get an offer soon.
