University offers coming in?

WombatChocolate · 27/09/2023 09:54

Just for nosiness and due to excitement about DS’s application going in, wondered if we could have a thread with people sharing offers as they are received, during this early phase.

Has anyone had an offer yet? Who will be first?

And totally realise that most won’t have applied yet and won’t do so for months and that’s absolutely fine and more normal.

DD has had an unconditional from Durham - found out at 5pm but didn't tell me til after dinner! Nothing from Bath (Social Sciences).

FebuarySmith · 24/11/2023 19:40

Durham! Excellent going.

StoorieHoose · 24/11/2023 20:57

DD only submitted UCAS application yesterday morning and this afternoon received two unconditional offers from Dundee and Strathclyde for Politics and IR

jlpth · 24/11/2023 20:57

That's super quick.

Offer from Manchester for Law. Very happy!

mondaytosunday · 25/11/2023 00:39

@RaelImperialAerosolKid 😁😁

Still waiting on York and UCL but Manchester is the front runner at the moment. Will visit in December and look around the Christmas Markets.

catmomof3 · 25/11/2023 11:26

After getting an interview for oxford we are just waiting on UCL now. Probably unlikely to know if DD is successful at either until January. So gotta try and get through Christmas without stressing.

DS is in same position.

Has an Oxford interview, just waiting on UCL, but I don't think that will be till after the Oxford decision day.

Rollergirl11 · 25/11/2023 14:26

DD also in similar position. Has her Cambridge interview and final one to hear from is Durham which aren’t expecting to hear from for months.

Jaxx · 25/11/2023 15:21

DS is waiting on Durham and UCL 😂. It is Durham he wants though as he would live at home if he went to UCL. In 12 days, he will have done all he can and it I’ll just be down to the long, long (Cambridge) wait! That said, it will be far from the end of the world if he ends up at Exeter.

futureistoday · 25/11/2023 17:26

My dd had an offer from Durham last week for stem subject.

@mondaytosunday am wondering why your DD's offer is unconditional? Is she applying with achieved grades?

TheOnlyMrsW · 25/11/2023 18:27

DD now has acknowledgements from all 5, so hoping for quick offers from one or two to settle nerves before mocks in January. Cardiff now appears to be the frontrunner over Leeds but not sure what's changed as I'm away for the weekend......
Several of her friends are starting to get interviews from Oxford and Cambridge, a couple have offers from early entry elsewhere too 🤞

mondaytosunday · 25/11/2023 18:37

Yes @futureistoday she sat them last cycle and has three A stars and A star EPQ. So above all grade requirements but as places like Durham (and obviously Cambridge) are competitive no guarantee of anything. Cambridge top choice, Bath second, though Durham very close and might pass it - haven't visited though (and I'd prefer Bath as much closer).
Must say being PQA removed a huge amount of stress! I'd recommend a gap year to everyone for that reason alone (obviously some degrees require going straight on).

Rollergirl11 · 25/11/2023 18:39

@jaxx I’m hoping DD doesn’t go with Durham if she receives an offer as it’s just so far away from us (275 miles). Cambridge is the closest and Exeter is a doable 2.5 to 3 hour car/train journey. I think it’s a very strong possibility that DD will go with Exeter!

Puffypuffin · 25/11/2023 19:09

DDs UCAS form went off on Wednesday, offer from Leicester on Thursday. She's had acknowledgements from UEA, Warwick, Loughborough and Lincoln but is now convinced that she's not going to get any more offers. Tying to manage her expectations that she could be waiting until May next year!

MirandaWest · 25/11/2023 19:11

DD has offers from Belfast and Bristol, interview at Oxford and waiting for Edinburgh and Durham. Think she likes Bristol quite a bit (but would prefer Oxford!) Think it will be quite a wait for Edinburgh and Durham.

Revengeofthepangolins · 25/11/2023 20:03

DS2 is another UCL and Durham waiter!

Just for some context, knowing both universities well enough.

Durham: Less than a 3 hour train journey from London.

Exeter: Can regularly take 2 hours to drive the M5 segment to Bristol on a Sunday afternoon.

Both fantastic universities - members of my family have loved their time at either one (incl. me at Durham 30 years ago and my DS at Exeter now)

mondaytosunday · 25/11/2023 23:57

@lastdayatschool it's only three hours if you are already at Kings Cross and don't count the bit from the station at Durham to the university! It would be four and a half from where we are in SW London.
But yep the supposed two and a bit hour drive to Bath can take well over three depending on traffic. And the supposed under two hours drive to Cambridge is a bit of a joke too!

lastdayatschool · 26/11/2023 00:02

@mondaytosunday - the journey from the station to the top end of the hill colleges probably takes 10 minutes max in a taxi.

Yes, longer than St David's to the far side of the Streatham campus, but hardly worth dismissing a university over.

Travelban · 26/11/2023 07:42

Hi everyone, bit late to this thread. Ds1 applied to Cambridge, Durham, St A, UCL and Imperial for CS. Last week he had offers from Durham and St Andrews amd an interview from Imperial.

Still nothing from Cambridge and UCL are now requesting a test in April.... not holding much hope for Cambridge but at least he has 2 decent offers.

He also had an unconditional offer from Bocconi in Milan to study Economics, Management and Computer Science.

Good luck to everyone waiting...

Revengeofthepangolins · 26/11/2023 08:27

The timing for the UCL CS test, and nature of it, as so odd. I can't think why they are choosing to do a test so alte in the cycle

mondaytosunday · 26/11/2023 09:16

@lastdayatschool agree - but if a closer uni can give as good as I'd rather that! Distance is an important factor. I know someone from the Isle of Wight who's son goes to St A - they do the trip a few times a year!
