Bath University Accommodation

Hello, I’m not sure if it’s already being discussed somewhere, sorry if it is. DC has been accepted to Bath Uni (as a first choice) and we’re waiting for an accommodation email. Anyone has already received theirs? It’s our first experience with university application/life. Not sure how long the wait is and we’re getting a bit nervous. Should DC contact them? Or just wait patiently? Thanks for help.

@OscarMikeGolf there's a Facebook group that is quite busy - WiWiKau also a Parents of Bath University group that's busy.

LightandAiry · 22/09/2023 18:36

@Thisisnotmyname2022 I hope it goes OK for you. Is it on campus accommodation? We parked somewhere we weren't supposed to park, then moved to West Car Park - long stay. Could be an option and get bus into town for ARGOS?

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 22/09/2023 18:46

Yeah he’s on campus, I believe there’s somewhere we could unload the car and then one of us parks up. There’s a Sainsbury’s not too far so we will nip there. They have what we need for click and collect.

GreenSalon · 22/09/2023 20:58

Dropped off today at 3 ish and going later was definitely less busy. Really organised and very smooth from our perspective. Meal out in Bath and now on way home! Excited for DC and Bath is soooo pretty.

CaveyWavey · 22/09/2023 22:15

Dropped off DS today. He is in quads. Parked in the east car park, arrived at about 12.30 and it was so busy. Managed to get a space in the East extension car park. DS queued up at a tent in the car park to collect the key, then there was a long queue for a trolley but we managed without. There are 10 in his flat but only half arrived so either they were coming later or they are splitting arrivals over two days to make it less congested which would make sense. We drove back into town to the big sainsburys near oldfield that was full of students doing a first shop with parents. We dropped DS back after the shop and his sister helped him take up the shopping whilst we waited in the car. It all went very smoothly despite it being busy. After we left, DS text to say he was chatting to the new flatmates and they were going to go out, so all good! Good luck to all those arriving tomorrow!

HelloMama · 22/09/2023 22:25

Couldn't fault the organisation today from the uni point of view. DS on 3rd floor at Westwood, so we dodged the heavy rain showers and got him settled in. His flatmates all seemed really nice (parents too!). Grabbed a coffee and left him to it and are now enjoying a gorgeous overnight stay in Bath! Seems only a few years ago that I was at uni... how does it go so fast?????!

cmcc22 · 22/09/2023 23:04

Currently in a hotel room in Bristol before heading over tomorrow to Green Park accommodation. We printed out the parking permit but unsure how long that gives us? Does anyone know

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 22/09/2023 23:35

2 hours I think.

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 22/09/2023 23:36

Ours is for West and gives 2 hours x

CaveyWavey · 23/09/2023 07:16

Our permit yesterday was for 2 hours but nobody checked our in and out time. I'm sure that's why it was so busy. They also gave us a four hour window of when we could use our 2 hours. My DS said a student in his WhatsApp group called the uni, as they couldn't stay within this window and they said it doesn't matter just come when you can. Hope it goes well today, especially to those that got the city accommodation and didn't want it. The buses are so frequent, lots of stops and I can see many benefits to staying in town.

HelloMama · 23/09/2023 07:52

Yesterday there were no checks on the parking passes. As @CaveyWavey said, they just told us to take our time. The drop off was busy, but also relaxed in terms of no one trying to hurry you or move you on ASAP, and we didn't feel rushed. Once unloaded close by, you go park in a car park.
Hope everything goes well for you today.

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 23/09/2023 07:55

We are on our way. A little later than planned but hey ho. Hoping to be there for lunch time.

bigbadbarry · 23/09/2023 14:47

We are on our way home. Feels all kind of wrong leaving DD behind (and trying to remember the last time DH and I drove any significant distance without a child in the car 😂). It was extremely well organised and quite quiet when we got there just after 9am, but getting busy when we left at lunchtime. Her room is minute but stuffed with storage space, and the others in the block seem pleasant. She’s been assigned a high cupboard in the kitchen and is only 5’3” so the tall young man who has been assigned the lower cupboards has kindly offered to swap. We did a Sainsbury’s run - very busy down there. Fingers crossed they all settle quickly

LightandAiry · 23/09/2023 19:00

Hope it all went well today. I've been chilling in her room with the cat!

LightandAiry · 23/09/2023 19:00

Strange without her

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 23/09/2023 19:24

I don’t think he’s spoken to anyone yet. 😔

hanka · 23/09/2023 19:39

Keep thinking he’s coming down the stairs and starting a sentence “…and also, mum,…” I’ve heard so many of those this past week. I do fight the urge to sob uncontrollably…

@Thisisnotmyname2022 hopefully in Fresher's week he may see some societies he'd like to join?

LightandAiry · 23/09/2023 19:58

@hanka it's odd...I am resisting the urge to keep messaging her. I'm leaving it until Tuesday/Weds now.

Audacity7 · 23/09/2023 20:20

Been lurking and watching others updates. Thought I had this but that was one tough gig !! Not sure I can do that emotional rollercoaster again ! She's in and was anxious when we left but hopefully will chat more now to her flatmates now we've gone.

greenmountjo · 23/09/2023 20:49

I too have been watching this post . Dropped my son at Bath yesterday . Wow that was tough - such an emotional rollercoaster ! Have to say it was all very well organised and all flat mates were lovely . A very impressive campus .

HelloMama · 23/09/2023 21:30

I've just realised that I joined Mumsnet when I was pregnant with DS, 19y ago! And this community has seen me through every stage of his life... from birth, to literally adulthood! 🙂
