Bath University Accommodation

Hello, I’m not sure if it’s already being discussed somewhere, sorry if it is. DC has been accepted to Bath Uni (as a first choice) and we’re waiting for an accommodation email. Anyone has already received theirs? It’s our first experience with university application/life. Not sure how long the wait is and we’re getting a bit nervous. Should DC contact them? Or just wait patiently? Thanks for help.

Yeah I’m hoping as the week goes on he will find his feet.

FerretFarago · 24/09/2023 20:45

Oh dear, young ferret moved in this weekend and is unhappy - their room is directly above the kitchen and a rowdy group has taken over the kitchen - drinking cider, watching the rugby and causing a rumpus into the wee small hours. Hopefully the rowdy lads will run out of money for cider and quieten down when term starts properly.

LightandAiry · 24/09/2023 21:08

@FerretFarago ear plugs for the time being? Hope it gets better.

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 24/09/2023 21:17

DS said his neighbour was on the phone for 4 hours last night. I said someone was probably on the phone home. It’s probably echoey as rooms will still be quite bare.

But that’s the bit that confuses me… if I was a delivery driver… I’m not so I could be wrong, and I worked for Evri… I’d assume that my delivery list would be based on postcode. If I’m putting all his details in, surely that would do straight to his accommodation. I appreciate Royal Mail would clearly sort uni mail and send it to the parcel room, but Evri? DPD?

Ive sent stuff to the Amazon locker on campus, but not sure how other retailers would work. There’s and Evri pick up a mile away, but ideally if I can help it I’d rather he just collect from campus.

Parcels go to the post room. I used evri no hassle to get parcels to my DD two years ago. The university has several thousand students living in campus.bthe couriers for that patch are going to know the protocol.

v impressive campus drop off on Saturday - we were expecting massive queues and literally drove straight in, got given his key and directions and straight to he accommodation.

Eastwood seemed ok -rooms a decent size and good location.

He's not above the kitchen but does have earplugs...

My DD is also in Eastwood and we were similarly impressed with the organisation. Kitchen is going to be a squeeze for 13 of them though

TJsAunt · 25/09/2023 12:19

@bigbadbarry we weren't allowed in the kitchen!!! He just about allowed us to carry stuff up to his bedroom before we were escorted out!

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 24/09/2023 10:36

@incywincyspiders

i know I’ve asked similar, but..

If I ordered online from Nike/anywhere other than Amazon etc, how does it it delivered to him? I’m thinking Evri, dpd etc. Wont they just attempt at his accommodation which is a bit rubbish if he’s not there.

I found this, but again maybe I’m being thick but I can’t seem to get my head around it.

Sorry I'm currently on holiday so hadn't seen this but the PPs are correct. All parcels go to the parcel room - even when addressed to the accommodation. The delivery drivers are all well versed in this 😊 students will receive an email notification once the parcel room staff have scanned the parcel in. For city accommodation this will be collected from Green Park (used to be Virgil). I used to scan the parcels in when it was in Virgil, it used to be my favourite job 🤣

flotsomandjetsome · 26/09/2023 11:07

I can confirm Amazon delivery worked fine to DS - addressed to him at his accommodation address as per instructions, delivered to the mail room & he got an email, to pick up, so all good

CaveyWavey · 26/09/2023 14:29

@Thisisnotmyname2022 I can also confirm that using the students name and accommodation as the address works. I sent a parcel by Royal Mail. DS got an email from the post room to tell him that it had arrived. I am not sure what happens with supermarket deliveries though, I think you asked this question in your original post?

Food deliveries can get delivered straight to the accommodation except Hello Fresh type companies which get delivered to the parcel room and we contact the student the same way but add a note saying it contains fresh food and must be collected immediately (or at least this is how it worked for City Accommodation when I worked there - it could have changed to straight to door now)

CaveyWavey · 26/09/2023 14:47

@incywincyspiders Thank you, that’s good to know. A food delivery now and again could be useful.

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 26/09/2023 16:22

He’s not enjoying it.

There was something the other day that he went to and left early, and then a treasure hunt today which he didn’t join in with as everyone was already arriving in groups.

posted this on another post and realised I’m using two different usernames 🙄

LightandAiry · 26/09/2023 20:02

@Thisisnotmyname2022 my friends DD had a similar experience last week with Fresher's - at her uni they did Fresher's last week - this week is a lot better now lectures have started.

loobylou44 · 26/09/2023 21:03

@Thisisnotmyname2022 my daughter isn't really getting involved in any of the organised stuff this week. The idea of mixing in big groups with 'forced fun' (her words) is her worst nightmare. She seems happy enough pottering around at the moment but I'm hoping she'll get involved more once freshers is over and done with.

curaçao · 26/09/2023 21:24

After a few wobbles over the last couple of days, dd seems to be finding her feet.Although her flatmates, the people on her course seem more her type plus she has had a brilliant time at a society taster session today and us doing something tonight too

What accommodation is she in? I’ve not come across anyone with the same as DS yet x

loobylou44 · 26/09/2023 22:06

@Thisisnotmyname2022 she's in Polden. How about your son?

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 26/09/2023 22:31

Osborne house x

babyproblems · 26/09/2023 23:00

Gosh this thread takes me back.. I was a student there and spent first year on campus then lived in Milsom street - had a ball during my time there. They’ve probably banned it now but I was an absolute expert at making togas out of the Uni halls bed sheets during that first year! if my DS ever has a Roman fancy dress at school, I will ace it 😂 the first year flies by and then she’ll be into a shared house- I don’t know anyone who didn’t enjoy themselves on campus. I think very few people get placed off campus - I don’t know of anyone that happened to. X

SoIinvictus · 28/09/2023 07:55

@babyproblems no, no, toga parties still very much a part of Fresher's Week 😂 At least I have the photo of DD from last year where they definitely were.
"Tell me you didn't use your PFB Marks & Spencer sheet?"
"D'oh, everyone went to the charity shop"
😅

Crikeyalmighty · 28/09/2023 12:10

I've loved seeing all the new students back here in Bath. (Not to say my bus service is way more regular- like every few minutes)

Can I suggest for those of you who have introverted/ slightly anti social first years that they set up a society- 'introvertsrus ' or something similar if there isn't one- guaranteed to meet others of a similar personality. The thing is about 'forced fun' - I can see why people hate it (I do) but in the world of work it's a reality at many companies and learning to communicate and work alongside others who aren't of the same mindset is actually a good skill to have. And you never know they may get chatting to others who also hate it and can have a laugh about it- if you join in bugger all it's going to be a very long 3 years.

FerretFarago · 29/09/2023 13:00

Young Ferret tells me they are eschewing the toga party.

LightandAiry · 29/09/2023 16:03

I've not heard very much at all....DD has requested photos of the cats and asked for some help with looking up an email & said she is OK Face timing at the weekend. Toga party? 😂
