Following on from the A level support thread I thought I would create one for results day.
Hopefully you will all join me for the long nail biting wait and the big day at the end of it!

I can't work out if Cardiff have places in clearing for Psychology - if I go to their clearing vacancies page the course is there now but if I click on it I just get taken to the course page. So confusing!

Titsywoo · 16/08/2023 21:09

DD insurance (Sussex) have dropped grades from AAB to BBC in clearing for psychology. Starting to think grades have dropped a fair bit. Making me extra nervous. I shouldn't have looked now I'm more worried she won't get her firm!

pintery · 16/08/2023 21:10

That Times article is such crap - man from the world of private education complaining about unfair advantage in Wales and NI (where there are relatively few private schools).

The Wales advance info this year was the worse than useless "suggested key areas of focus for revision" with the caveat that everything will be examined and therefore should be taught and revised.

The stuff about inaccurate predictions is also bollocks - Wales students have AS levels in Y12 which count as 40% of the final A level grade, and therefore teachers have much better data on which to base predictions than in England.

There seem to be lots of courses in clearing - just been looking at Warwick, Lancaster, Birmingham, Nottingham, many with reduced grade requirements.

One DD is interested in at Warwick for 2024 now AAB from AAA and one DS is starting in September now BBC from ABB.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow 🤞

NotDonna · 16/08/2023 21:32

Are you packed @FriendlyLaundryMonster I’ve even packed the carry on just incase we are on the phone all day!

clary · 16/08/2023 21:44

Hey all, just wanted to post to say best of best good wishes to everyone's DC for tomorrow. Hopefully people will get their firm or insurance and all will be well. If you need to do clearing, my tale of DD (four years ago) is that we had a tremendously stressful day with clearing, not going to lie about that, but at the end of the day I was able to post on SM to friends that she had some really good offers to study her chosen subject; and by the end of the Friday, her brother (bless him) had gone with her to a clearing open day at a uni she ended up going to and really thriving at. So even if your DC have news tomorrow that is not what they hoped, there will be a way through. It might be more work or some heartache but it will be a way.

tribpot · 16/08/2023 21:46

Best of luck to all. I suspect I will be on MN early doors tmrw as we're early risers anyway and I don't foresee a great night's sleep! 💤

Durham also listing a lot of courses in UCAS clearing search now.

Ooh what do you mean @lastdayatschool?

AfingeroffudgeisNOTenough · 16/08/2023 21:51

DD has said she is setting an alarm for the morning but if she sleeps through and isn’t awake by 7am, then we’ve to wake her. She wants to be properly up and showered before logging on at 8am to get results. She is surprisingly chilled and calm, and I am surprised at how early she wants to be up in the morning - she normally needs dragged out of bed!

@NotDonna We haven't even started packing yet! Thankfully, we are just away in the UK. But, it's going to be a busy day all round tomorrow. Good luck everyone!

Handle Durham with care? Or clearing generally?

I don’t know how a accurate UCAS is - Durham on their website say they have c.150 spaces available for UK applicants.

lastdayatschool · 16/08/2023 22:00

According to various threads on TSR, in previous years where Durham have had clearing place, they have made verbal offers, which people then added as their one UCAS clearing choice, only to then keep then hanging before deciding not to accept the applicant. By which time other options had gone.

Inference is they over offer so they can cherry pick candidates in clearing

Durham had no UK vacancies on UCAS yesterday (DS is still clinging on to the fantasy they'll suddenly magic some clearing vacancies for his course) so these courses listed now have been added today

Candleabra · 16/08/2023 22:06

ooo naughty. I see.
Is it usual that the top unis have clearing places (not just Durham). I’ve never really thought about it before. Must be an utter logistical nightmare predicting the right amount of offers on each course but not being over subscribed and having to honour too many if everyone hits their predicted results.

stoneysongs · 16/08/2023 22:07

Wow that's sneaky of Durham.

kackle · 16/08/2023 22:20

lastdayatschool · 16/08/2023 20:46

Wonder how much clearing will change between now and 8am.

Newcastle and York removed their A&F courses today, both of which were on DS's plan B list 😬

Hopefully, the other 4 he has won't disappear overnight (although hopefully he won't need them at all).

Weirdly, Exeter are now showing a lot of Clearing vacancies on the UCAS site - they weren't over the last couple of weeks when there own site was

Yes. Ive seen this too

the grade requirements on ucas are far higher than what they were advertising in their own website last year

Nottingham clearing is also on their website as well as Qmul and St Georges advertising medicine

i cant help think grades are low and universities havent filled seats

lastdayatschool · 16/08/2023 22:25

@kackle all the clearing courses/unis I've seen on UCAS have displayed their 6 offers from the main admissions cycle

NotDonna · 16/08/2023 22:27

Loughborough has Robotics in clearing - can now find who that was!

DD has found her course at Lancaster- rather ironic as at open day she was looking to insure Lancs but they upped the grades from ABB to AAB by the time we’d got back home - matching her firm, so it was never one of her 5 despite liking it. Today it’s been lowered in clearing to BBC! So we’ve written their number on the fridge door just incase.

Have a fab night in Manchester @troppibambini6 good riddance. Nasty ‘friends’.

huge luck to everyone! Fingers crossed we all have fab news tomorrow.

LadyLapsang · 16/08/2023 22:36

Best wishes everyone. Hope they get the results they need but try to stay calm even if their results are lower than expected. If they firm up insurance offers, my advice is to get accommodation sorted out asap.

Yoloohno · 16/08/2023 22:45

Nervous here, dd not overly hopeful as she messed a paper up that was one of her stronger subjects.

it’s interesting that offers are being reduced, her offer is bbc for a former poly and more traditional unis are reducing.

Roll on 8am.

Dancerr · 16/08/2023 22:48

My dc isn't doing A levels yet but Came on to wish everyone the best of luck for tomorrow X

SlightlyJaded · 16/08/2023 22:52

Thanks for that @clary Needed to read that.

Not a wink of sleep for me I shouldn't imagine, but DD has taken the alternative route of going out with her boyfriend for a drink with her boyfriend to try and take her mind of things.

I wish I didn't know that some people get Welcome emails from Uni's the night before as I am now despondent that she hasn't had one. I am refreshing like a lunatic (with her permission). I need to stop and sleep. Wish I was as cool as her she won't be tomorrow she will be demented
