Following on from the A level support thread I thought I would create one for results day.
Hopefully you will all join me for the long nail biting wait and the big day at the end of it!

Hadn't realised that but as you say if the universities are aware it should all work out - although how employers are supposed to make head or tail of things I don't know! Agree re the Times - it's almost like they want everyone to panic...

Employers already have to remember which were the CAG/TAG years during Covid... or, more likely, just ignore it all. I do think it will all come out in the wash over time.

Oh god just to add to the stress dd has just found out her group of mates have been really really nasty and have all booked tickets to club night and not told her. The night is now sold out.
It's all led by one girl who has taken a dislike to dd and is having drinks at her house first and not invited dd.
She's so upset. Sad

I'm so sorry, how petty. She's better off without them, not that that will help at the moment.

PhotoDad · 16/08/2023 19:01

My DD had an amazing first year at uni. Then in the very last week of term her friendship group decided to exclude her after a massive row. So I really feel for @troppibambini6 DD. Flowers

DinkyDaisy · 16/08/2023 19:02

Nerves really kicking in now...
Ds been quite cool about it up until now. Not today.
Offered retail job today and anxious about that as well as paid at 18 year old rate rather than Tescos rate like his mate.
Shop he likes though and 'bird in hand' and all that I keep emphasising.
Been bigging up insurance choice but that backfired when he said - I might not even get the grades for that!

Chickydoo · 16/08/2023 19:04

Have been doing fine until now.
DC is quite calm but has gone very quiet.
I have opened the wine 🍷
Good luck all 🤞

Cantonet · 16/08/2023 19:08

Oh @troppibambini6 that sounds so horrible. That happened to my dd1 in secondary school & this girl who excluded her eventually ended up with no friends. So what goes around comes around. Your DD should hold her head up high!.
@PhotoDad I'm sorry to hear about your dd's friends too. Your daughter is so talented & sounds so lovely, that she will make new friends in a flash.

HappySonHappyMum · 16/08/2023 19:09

@troppibambini6 My DD has just had a look through some WhatsApp chats she'd muted over the summer to find that her 'friends' are all saying they'll be off to work in McDonalds if they fail tomorrow. These 'friends' all know that my DD works there and has been working there for nearly two years now - they all reckon they'll come and join her. She's offended because they seem to think that working in Maccys is for idiots and that working in Maccys is all she'll ever achieve in her life. I told her there's no way any of them would pass the tests to get in or have the stamina to work there and she can also look down on them from the top of the money she's earnt while they take handouts from their parents! I think sometimes there's a natural point where friendships reach the end of the line. I'm pretty sure my DD will find her likeminded crew when she gets to Uni. Girls can be pretty vile sometimes.

nicky2512 · 16/08/2023 19:14

Can honestly say (in our house anyway) that advance info on AS in NI made no difference. It was quite general and in my ds’s opinion covered basically everything they had done anyway.

ZittiEBuoni · 16/08/2023 19:14

I feel really upset for your dds @troppibambini6 and @HappySonHappyMum - why are some groups of kids like this? Ugh.

Dd has had a pretty lousy summer with the relationship break-up and what seems like long Covid (probably isn't, just dragging on more than I expected) but at least she has solid friends.

Her school doesn't open till 9 (argh!) so I guess it's a case of trying to log on to UCAS first.

kackle · 16/08/2023 19:16

@Forestfriendlygarden are you still around?

how are you doing? X

Summersizzle · 16/08/2023 19:26

Just checked DS’s firm and his course, which has been in clearing all along, has massively reduced the entry requirements from AAA to ABB! His plan B which is same uni has gone from ABB to BBC so he’s now feeling pretty hopeful.

Bigfatsquirrel · 16/08/2023 19:28

@Summersizzle that's brilliant. What does your DS want to study ?

I just checked Dd's course after you said this and hers dropped too.
from ABB to BCC that's weird. Do they usually do this?

Summersizzle · 16/08/2023 19:35

It’s robotics engineering so a bit niche. Plan B is generic engineering.

Gulplastonetogo · 16/08/2023 19:36

DC course was not in clearing last week (others were at the uni) but now the uni has nothing visible in clearing and says that it will be updated at 8am tomorrow.

Summersizzle · 16/08/2023 19:37

@MrsCarson I assume it means grades have dropped and they want to fill spaces.

lastdayatschool · 16/08/2023 19:49

That Times article is another one of their daily clickbait articles.

I can only speak for my DS who did Maths, Economics and Business Studies in NI - their advance information from the exam board (CCEA) was that the exams would cover all topics taught this year.

Note - the topics taught in lower 6th were already examined at AS level, these exams accounting for 40% of their overall A level result

cptartapp · 16/08/2023 19:53

DS firm MChem at Uni of York has dropped from AAB with A in Chem to BBB with B in Chem in clearing.
Looking hopeful.

PhotoDad · 16/08/2023 20:02

@cantonet Thank you! Over the summer she's already been in touch with some other classmates who were "acquaintances," and she plans to join a couple of new clubs/societies next year. Sorry to hear of your DD's similar troubles.

Off to drink some wine now, early night, and then... I'll see you all on the other side. Won't be able to get onto MN before mid-afternoon, but I hope to hear some wonderful stories and celebrate with you all!

troppibambini6 · 16/08/2023 20:02

Thanks so much everyone its much appreciated people can be really bloody horrible sometimes can't they?!

Anyway her gorgeous older brother and sister have come to the rescue and now the four of us are going into Manchester for cocktails and dinner and then she's meeting up with some others for drinks later.
Her older brother is fabulously flamboyant and declared "like fuck she's staying in" and has booked organised some fab places for her.

Everything crossed she gets the grades now.

blametheparents · 16/08/2023 20:27

Loughborough have released their clearing courses on their website.

Darkbutstarrynight · 16/08/2023 20:30

If I actually thought I would sleep, I'd go to bed now and try and sleep the next 12 hours away! DS actively avoiding the subject now...

BeaBachinasec · 16/08/2023 20:30

😂good for him!

AfingeroffudgeisNOTenough · 16/08/2023 20:45

@troppibambini6 what good eggs your older two sound! Girls can be utterly horrid - DD2 (15) is going through something similar at the minute - 1 girl who recently joined their friendship group and has just taken against DD completely. DD3 went through the same last year in her final year of primary - 1 girl totally excluded her from the rest of the class on what seemed like a whim which grew legs! It’s heartbreaking, and can totally take the shine off good things. I hope your DD gets her dream results tomorrow and has an amazing night out to celebrate.

lastdayatschool · 16/08/2023 20:46

Wonder how much clearing will change between now and 8am.

Newcastle and York removed their A&F courses today, both of which were on DS's plan B list 😬

Hopefully, the other 4 he has won't disappear overnight (although hopefully he won't need them at all).

Weirdly, Exeter are now showing a lot of Clearing vacancies on the UCAS site - they weren't over the last couple of weeks when there own site was
