Following on from the A level support thread I thought I would create one for results day.
Hopefully you will all join me for the long nail biting wait and the big day at the end of it!

Sorry for typos in last message so tired....

AfingeroffudgeisNOTenough · 14/06/2023 15:39

DD got a message today from TCD to say she hadn’t been successful in her accommodation application for halls. She’s gutted. It’s currently her back up choice after UCD, but if she ended up there she’ll still need somewhere to live. I’d say it’ll put paid to any idea of switching her choices on her application too - she’ll not want to take the risk. Accommodation at UCD should be more secure

I might have mentioned this on the last thread. My daughter's school will publish results on the school portal - no need to go in, though of course teachers will be there in case things don't go to plan.
My daughter feels a bit cheated - she imagined all of them ripping open their envelopes together (and perhaps jumping in the air as per all the newspaper front pages)! How are other schools doing it?

I think that’s much more humane then the tradition of requiring students to go on and be potentially alone and vulnerable whilst receiving bad news whilst being surrounded by people celebrating- it’s just awful.

my elder child had their results emailed (COVID) and those who needed support were given immediate slots to come into school and get help - much better system all round. Sadly for this year dc are required to go in again. The one thing I am relieved about is that last year they banned the press from coming in to take photos another hideous tradition which fails to recognise and respect that people may be struggling.

a warning for those who haven’t been through A level results before - yes track updates early but then usually crashes so most people can’t get on.

Spottydressinggowngirl · 14/06/2023 17:56

I’ll join!! DD has been lucky to get an unconditional offer for her first choice. But I know the exams results will still be stressful.

last exam this Friday. Then she is off on holiday with a mate. She’s not 18 yet, so a proper first taste of freedom. Such an exciting time for them.

troppibambini6 · 14/06/2023 18:15

Can I join too?
Dds has two exams left and last one is on 26th.
She has prom the 28th then flies to Portugal on the 29th with 11mates. Comes home a week later then off to a festival for three days.
Then she's working full time for the summer.

I didn't realise that from 6am on results day you can see if you got into your uni on the ucas website. Dd isn't sure whether to look or not but think won't be able to help herself!

KittyMcKitty · 14/06/2023 18:45

Track updates at 8am not 6 😊

Orangesandlemons77 · 14/06/2023 19:19

Going in for results here. Best of luck

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 14/06/2023 19:23

😬. I can imagine the frustration awaiting us! Only 9 weeks and one day to go……

tennissquare · 14/06/2023 19:37

I think it's being changed this year so that everything tracks / is released at the same time, 8am.

HairyMaclary · 14/06/2023 20:24

This is the thread I need, still go a week and 3 exams to go but likelihood of getting firm or insurance offer is minimal. DS has had a v difficult 18 months after an operation left him in chronic pain (and other issues).

Not sure any of us have the energy to deal with the outcome of bad results but hopefully we’ll all be rested by 17th August!

Oh, that is tough, all the best to him (and you) Flowers

flotsomandjetsome · 14/06/2023 20:56

I'll join in. Still 6 more exams to go, but hoping that they all have a great summer and the wait until Aug 17th doesn't go too slowly.

WorkHardPlayHard1 · 14/06/2023 22:37

DD last exam is 23rd June.
So far 2 have gone really well. One terrible and one good. Half way through ! 😁😫😬

kackle · 14/06/2023 09:49

Book marking.

dd still has four exams to go and last one is 23/6.

I am anxious already about her results, its going to be a long wait till 17/8.

Exactly the same! History Biology & Chemistrt

troppibambini6 · 14/06/2023 22:41

Aah ok thanks that's good to know. It's our eldest so not done this before.

Oh man that sounds like he's been through tough times. I hope he has a great summer and doesn't stress too much. Is a gap year an option to reassess if things don't work out? My son did that and actually it worked out better in the end.

In other news... My daughter had her second to last exam today, it went well apparently but she has come home in a foul mood, had an argument about fuck all with me and stormed out.

She has just returned very sheepish and apologetic.

She needs v high grades so probably super stressed and all over the place. She's having an amazing summer of family holidays, interrailing, music festivals and visiting family abroad. She'll be FINE, she'll be having a ball. But she's got her heart set on her firm and we will have everything crossed for the next nine weeks...

Joining in!

we’ve talked about how to go about results day and I feel like a chart coming on. I’ve booked the day off work.
Step 1 - mum wakes up at 7.45am, makes tea
Step 2 - mum takes hot beverage to DD who gradually wakes up
Step 3 - DD accesses UCAS in private
Step 4+ - depends on outcome of step 3, we’re talking if gets top preference: just take DD to school for results day for 9am and drop her off and leave, if she doesn’t get UCAS desired outcome then hover about or similar after taking DD to school and when she is ready discuss next steps
Step celebrate- remind DD how proud we are of her and trying her best wherever the outcome.

QueenofLouisiana · 14/06/2023 23:15

Evening, I’m in for the long summer ahead too. DS finishes on Friday and I’ve offered taxi service into town that evening (hasn’t really celebrated his 18th as it was mid exams). I’ve suggested a week of sleep and decompressing, then his grandparents need help in their huge garden, so that’s another week. He’s travelling to Thailand with a mate later in the summer.
He has the huge relief of an unconditional offer, so much of the admin has been done.
Seems more stressful as a mum than it was doing my own A Levels.

sawnotseen · 14/06/2023 23:28

Mine has exams until 20/6. I'm just glad he's going to be out of school and going on his first boys holiday to Zante the following day. Enjoying himself.
He's decided not to go to university and do a Higher Apprenticeship instead. He's got it lined up already. I'm pleased, as although he won't be earning much (his dad and I will continue to financially support him), he won't end up with a huge debt and will have a trade that will be a gateway into employment. So many university graduates unfortunately struggle to get jobs.

BellsaRinging · 15/06/2023 05:20

Joining in if you'll have me! Seems like we have a long slog still ahead; ds has three exam to go and doesn't finish until the 26th. He's got offers which are achievable but only with effort and frankly luck. Hopefully the stars will align but if not a has a good alternative which will also work. He's planning on a year off which sounds amazing too. We will be on the portal early and then celebrating his effort the rest of the day-am assuming until he goes out with his mates!

buckleten · 15/06/2023 06:12

I'm in - one more week of exams then a long wait!

Gardener13 · 15/06/2023 09:13

Joining too - 2 exams to go - finishing next Friday. V. tough offer for firm and DS not sure he wants insurance choice now. Exams have been very tough due to extreme stress, although he’s worked incredibly hard and certainly capable if it wasn’t for stress. I think the lack of GCSE exam experience is telling for DS - but conscious it affected many others in more significant ways so don’t want to over state this.

Spottydressinggowngirl · 15/06/2023 09:28

its good to hear from those in the same boat. I really don’t remember taking my a-levels anywhere near as seriously as they seem to be taken today. I feel for them with all the pressure.

have those who are heading to uni started to get things ready? Dd is 18 soon and we’ve paid for inter railing as her main gift. I’ve just started buying a few bedroom bits so she has something to open on the day. There is a good sale on in urban outfitters at the moment and she loves all their little home bits.

Same here.

DD had a mountain to climb in her third maths paper having had a nightmare on the first 2. She needs an A in maths. It should have been eminently achievable but the first 2 are making us worried.

What can we do but sit tight? Roll on results day.
