@purfectpuss - "My dd is very stressed about the exam- she's gone down with an awful virus and feeling very unwell. Hopefully she'll start to feel better soon for the exam on Wedsday- but not feeling well enough for her prep and other revion hanging over her too she's not good.

Does anyone know what happens if they are too unwell to attend the exam- can schools roll it over to the following week or are they tied to the date they set?"

So sorry to hear about your DD anxiety and illness just before the exam. Sorry I don't know what they do if a student can't make the exam. Surely for art they could give another date as it isn't an exam where can "give away" the answers?

@Lottsbiffandsmudge and @Localher0 - thanks for the feedback- must be feeling emotional as tears sprung to my eyes reading your kind messages.

Apologies that last message was for @PhotoDad !

Perfectpuss, I believe that so long as the exam work is marked and submitted to the board by the end of May, it doesn't matter quite when it is done. Whether the school can make the appropriate arrangements (students must be supervised the whole time) is another matter, though. Good luck!

I'd be interested in a round up of destinations too, as I've lost track. Institution and course. Looking again at UWE - I'm keen to book any open days this side of the summer but my daughter is up to her neck in prep (her art exam starts tomorrow) so hasn't been very forthcoming about which ones she wants to go to, so I'm going off what we last discussed months ago. The UWE YouTube on the website makes it sound like a great creative place to be.

Totally lost track too @mondaytosunday

I'll have to this week if I get a moment- when I get it wrong you can all update me. So much has changed since we all stated the journey !

@mondaytosunday DS just firmed UWE. Went on Sat to offer holder day. We loved it. Well worth an open say in my view! DS is Fine Art but due to open studios at the fine art studio we did all talks etc at Bower Ashton where most of the other courses are based. Loved it.

Has anyone had a foundation offer from Camberwell yet?

Soma · 01/05/2023 18:33

Thanks @Duchessofmuchness , things moved so fast I was still posting on the previous thread.
@mondaytosunday UWE and Bristol have so much to offer, so well worth a visit. If you can, try and stay overnight. Is your DD animation? Aardman are just round the corner from Spike Island and a stone's throw from Arnolfini, which looked great.

mondaytosunday · 01/05/2023 18:58

@FactyFrances NO!! What is their problem? My daughter speculated that they've offered to international students and waiting for them to accept or decline.

PhotoDad · 01/05/2023 19:08

That is a ridiculous wait! Someone on the "more general" thread suggested naming and shaming places which seem incompetent. I now realise that DD was very lucky with her choices, they all replied quickly and didn't complain about portfolio links, etc.

Her portfolio was sent mid February. It is ridiculous and stressful as she starts A levels tomorrow.

Hello all, hopping over from the other thread.

For the record :)

My daughter is about to firm Kingston School of Art for Fashion BA, coming straight from A levels (fine art, fashion design & geography). She'll insure UAL London College of Fashion for Fashion Design & Development BA.

She applied to 5 Unis for degree courses through UCAS (KSA, LCF, Goldsmiths, Ravensbourne and London Met) and 3 separate Foundation courses too at the same time to keep her options open (Kingston, Central St Martin's and Ravensbourne). She only wanted London hence the choices. During the process she's come to the decision she wants to go direct to a degree and not do a foundation.

It was a tremendous amount of work but she got offers from every institution she applied to, and I'm really proud of her! Now to get the grades for her firm and onwards!

Hi all. Dd, currently doing A levels year 13 has Herts first and UCA Farnham as reserve both for degrees in concept art.

Somehow I missed @luluposs' post until reviewing the thread... amazing!!

If @Duchessofmuchness or anyone else is keeping track... DD is finishing first year at CSA/ARU in illustration, she was straight-to-degree.

And, @wbeezer (if that tag works), on the more general "people interested for the future" thread, there's someone asking more about Scotland... would it be OK to tag you in on that discussion?

I'm keeping notes folks and will do a round up over the weekend so any other decisions and confirmations let us know. I will pour myself wine to fortify myself before I start!

DS has submitted his Final Major Project for Foundation and has essentially finished! Has 2 weeks off now whilst they mark and moderate and then back for the Private View on 19th. Then a week of exhibition which he is working at and then home!
He has had a week of 3am finishes and is exhausted and emotional.
It's been a roller coaster year. Very hard work, lots of hours, and much stress with UCAS too but he has loved the work. Living away from home has been tricky at times but he now feels ready to go off to UWE next year (much further from us) and is very excited to start!
I am so proud of him. I haven't seen the final piece as he wants us to see it for first time at PV. But it's an installation piece involving video, photos and text set up in a pseudo scientific arrangement as if in a science museum. Complete with dymo type labels (like I had as a kid!). On the theme of humans' poss hybridisation with plastics.
TBH as an artist he is unrecognisable from his A level self.

Thank you for the new thread @Duchessofmuchness although so sorry to hear about your daughter not feeling well and really hope it all goes well despite it or that she gets extra support so it doesn't impact her results.

@mondaytosunday and @FactyFrances - definitely agree on Manchester and UAL waiting on international students before offering to UK students. I went to UAL and it was about half and half of UK student and international students back then. It makes for a good cultural melting pot but not good with the modern offering system of online portfolios which makes it all very last minute. Thankfully my DD is taking a gap year or it would be a nightmare for accommodation.

As un update my DD applied to five Photography degrees straight from A levels - Falmouth Press & Editorial Photography, Manchester Photography, Nottingham Photography, Leeds Photography and UAL LCC Commercial Photography.

She now has offers to all five 🥳 and is doing Photography & English A levels and a Media Production BTEC and is predicted A star, A, Distinction Star so grades should be ok for the 104 UCAS point offers - she has an unconditional offer for Nottingham but I think the decision is mostly between Falmouth and Manchester due to the expense of London and the student experience as a result - the course, however, looks incredible with amazing networking and work opportunities. She's finding it really hard to make a decision so we're headed back to Manchester next weekend.

Good luck to everyone!!! And looking forward to hearing of everyone's various experiences :)
