Thanks all, dc is really pleased. There's an open day this week so we'll go to that (never visited previously as did not expect an offer) and will decide then but I'm fairly sure it will be Camberwell.

mondaytosunday · 21/05/2023 10:35

Curious what you think of it @SpacehopperFace . I can't remember your DC's area of interest? We've visited it twice - Foundation end of Year show and an Open Day.

FancyFanny · 23/05/2023 17:42

Hi everyone. Does anyone know what the grade boundary was for an A* in 2019 a level? DD has been given her marks and it's out of 96 but the 2019 A levels seemed to be scored differently and the marks are in the 300s or something so we can't compare.

DesignDD · 23/05/2023 17:51

@FancyFanny , my DD got her marks back and was told to multiply each component by a certain weighting to get an idea of grade boundaries (unit 2 X 3 and unit 2 x2..this is 3d design though so of course could be completely different)..but that boundaries are likely to change this year. DD slightly disappointed by her mark so hopefully they won't hugely increase!

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 23/05/2023 17:54

It will also depend on the board...

FancyFanny · 23/05/2023 18:14

It's AQA fine art/art and design. I think I've found it- it seems to be same most recent years that 79 is A* including 2019 and

mondaytosunday · 23/05/2023 18:55

That sounds about right @FancyFanny . My daughter averaged 83 from both so believes she has most likely got an A, but will have to wait til moderation and won't know til results day the actual boundaries and if she got an Astar. She said she did worse on the second component which she thought she did much better in!

SpacehopperFace · 23/05/2023 23:34

@mondaytosunday she's mostly Fine Art but loves a bit of making stuff (not sculpture but crafty things) so I think it will suit her. I'm sure she'd love to explore other areas too

mondaytosunday · 24/05/2023 10:03

Ah right @SpacehopperFace ! I'm sure she'll enjoy it. It's a big class size but they have a whole building to themselves.
Sympathies to anyone's child doing both History and English A levels today - double whammy!

mondaytosunday · 24/05/2023 13:46

Daughter had just come home from History A level (not too bad, beyond happy she never had to think about the Tudors again) and waits half an hour before she tells me she's been offered a place at Camberwell. She's pleased and is going to think about it, but is still leaning towards Morley. Only wish we could have seen last year's Foundation show from there -saw some fine art on YouTube (impressive) but only from a couple students that posted it themselves.

PhotoDad · 24/05/2023 16:58

Congratulations!

I'm sorry to have split the threads (as I wanted one that newbies would find) but will repeat my own news, which is that DD has secured a one-month, full-time, paid (!!) internship for June. It's working from home (online with a team) to produce illustrations for a project at her uni. Very pleased as it will look great on CV and generate some actual client work for her portfolio. Plus the money is a nice bonus for her.

SpacehopperFace · 24/05/2023 20:24

Congratulations to your dd @mondaytosunday!
Camberwell is now nailed on after today's visit (sadly I couldn't make it but dd and dh did and loved it)

Duchessofmuchness · 28/05/2023 19:21

Hope everyone is doing well and your DC are staying afloat with the other A levels and courses.

@luluposs - was your DD able to sit her art exams? Or school able to help with alternative arrangements?

DS finished everything 2 weeks ago. Pretty much the first 2 finish as he did art, textiles and a BTEC. It was an intense final few weeks and he wasn't sleeping much in last few days! He got his raw marks back last week so is pretty certain he knows his grades as he's solidly in the grade boundaries - he's happy and avoided disaster on his art which was way way off course a month ago

So exciting seeing the offers and decisions that everyone is making after months of open days, portfolios etc. Round up of decisions in my next post.

Duchessofmuchness · 28/05/2023 20:47

As promised, attempting to round up all the offers/decisions from the first thread and this one since we started this journey together last year!

Please forgive any errors and omissions - I've tried to capture everyone, so if I missed you, or have written down incorrectly, please correct me. There were some interesting twists and turns along the way, and I tried to figure out the last choice each DC made! There were a few contributors where I couldn't identify the course your DC was looking at or where at point of your last post they were still choosing. Have included you also, but apologies if you'd have preferred not to be. If you provide an update, I'm happy to do a corrected version in a week or so.

Huge thanks to the other contributors whose DC were not applying this year but stopped by throughout to give advice based on your own careers or the journeys your DC had gone though. Have not tagged you all. And also good luck to those who decided this wasn't their path this year - I'll be continuing this journey into next year as DS decides what he wants to do after FAD (fashion design, fashion design and promotion or something else!)

It's been such an encouraging and helpful thread and I am so glad I started it. Have gained so much from your experience and thoughts along the way.

luluposs · 28/05/2023 21:46

@Duchessofmuchness no worries! And a big thank you, firstly for starting this whole thread (times 2!) in the first place, and the round up list of where everyone's plans. That must have been a feat of dedication!

Good luck everyone! Those of us with conditional offers dependent on grades will have to come back & update come Aug 17th (yikes! Gonna be an anxious wait!).

Daughter is finally done with both fine art and fashion design A levels as of this last week, just one more Geog A level exam (human, worth 40%) to go on Tues 6th right after half term, then she's all finished - weeks before most of her friends. She already has FOMO about leaving school soonest!

Taking her to Barcelona for 3 days as a post A level treat. Gaudi us up!

TJworried · 28/05/2023 21:47

@Duchessofmuchness my DD has chosen Heriot Watt to study Interior Design.
Thanks for compiling list it is very interesting to read.

Soma · 29/05/2023 00:09

@Duchessofmuchness wow, you are a legends, thanks for putting that list together. I can't believe we've managed to all get this far and it's been an amazingly supportive group, just like last year's Year 13 thread. Hope we keep going like that one.

PhotoDad · 29/05/2023 07:10

@Duchessofmuchness Thank you for compiling the list!

DD and I are heading down to pick up her stuff tomorrow (she got the train home when she was done, and I wasn't free until half-term as I'm a teacher). Then on Thursday she starts a paid illustration internship for a month, which is very exciting!

JulesJules · 29/05/2023 07:35

Thanks for the round-up! D2 just has two more A-Level papers to do after half term. She (and I) are very thankful that she already has an unconditional place on her Art Foundation year.

QGMum · 29/05/2023 09:37

Thank you so much for the round-up. And well done to all the dc on their offers.

My own dc has accepted AUB for foundation so they still have to go through applications again next year.

mondaytosunday · 29/05/2023 09:59

Wow impressive @Duchessofmuchness!
I hope everyone keeps us updated, as the UCAS process will be upon us before we know it and hearing how everyone is doing in their first year will be really helpful.
Daughter is 66% of the way through A levels - two more History and one more Psychology to go. She seems ok with how's she's done so far.
Our short but not short enough list for uni is (in no particular order) for Animation (2D):
Falmouth
AUB
UCA Farnham
U of Herts
UWE
ARU.
She might add a London one (probably Kingston), purely due to her health issues just in case. We have booked open days at UCA and AUB this side of summer, and will do a campus tour at Falmouth in July.
So any feedback you guys get from your kids starting at any of the above will be useful!
Good luck to those still taking exams, congrats to those who have firmed their offers, and roll on August 17! DDs school posts results online, my daughter is sad there's no rip open the envelope group event at school!

PhotoDad · 29/05/2023 10:34

@mondaytosunday Those are all great choices, by reputation. I think it will probably come down to the "vibe" when you visit. It was totally the city and the art-school buildings (outside and inside) which sold ARU to my DD!

I'm very happy to answer any questions about it either on the thread or in PMs. DD has had an amazing first year there; although it ended with friendship group problems, that's hardly the uni's fault! She is very excited for second year already.

DesignDD · 29/05/2023 16:05

@Duchessofmuchness , great job compiling the list! My DD has firmed Northumbria for 3d design with a year in industry in the end - the option of the year in industry, plus offer of the foundation year if she doesn't make the grades for the BA Hons course swing it. Halls already booked as nearly all the accommodation has gone as it is first come first served unfortunately. She also really liked Brighton's course for their eco friendly focus and of course the whole Brighton vibe! I think the cost of accommodation generally in the area plus the fact only one halls seemed close to the art school put her off in the end. Good luck with the exams to everyone's DC - only halfway through A levels here and she'll be the last group to finish third week in June!

Localher0 · 30/05/2023 08:40

Huge well done to @Duchessofmuchness for compiling all the destinations and pathways!
DD all done on her FAD at Kingston. It's been a huge amount of work and commitment but she can finally breathe a sigh of relief.
The foundation show lasts all week now and then they dismantle it on Monday and hopefully have a big hurrah. There doesn't seem to be any info on when the results are due or if there's a final 'ceremony' of some sort so maybe that's just it 🤔
Anyways - you're correct @Duchessofmuchness she is off to NTU to do Furniture & Product Design. (Was going to be textiles before the FAD)
Good luck to all the A level students for the next few weeks 🤞
