University near(ish) a beach

We don't live anywhere near a beach and so DC would love to have reasonably easy access to one at uni. Somewhere you can walk to or take public transport to on a weekend day say, if you wake up and feel like it ( as opposed to needing to plan in advance and get up at 5am). Or even closer would be amazing.
They are looking at doing a traditional academic subject, so Bournemouth for example, although it looks fab, would probably not be the best choice. Beach proximity cannot be the first filter!

Swansea Bay campus is directly next to a beach with direct access to it and if you’re lucky your room will be on the side of your halls facing the sea. Their other campus is across the road from the beach and you can also cycle to the Mumbles with more beautiful beaches.

My DD had Exeter as her firm with Swansea as her insurance

Exeter's Penryn Campus

Ok - so DC wants a "good" university - I can't advise on Maths but top unis for music which are within easy reach of a beach include Manchester (3rd in the rankings for 2023 and which offers a joint course with Royal Northern if they want a mix of academics and performance), Durham (2nd) , Southampton (7th), Bangor (9th), Cardiff (10th), Edinburgh (15th). There's also Royal Welsh in Cardiff.

I think Bristol is good for Maths, and by the sea.

Falmouth uni; part of Exeter uni and perfect for coastal everything 👌

Cardiff or Swansea are good. There is the gower, mumbles, Cardiff bay etc

You can cycle from Exeter to Exmouth.

You can. If you're fit.

DS went to Plymouth. Lovely location.

Southampton is great. Russell group Uni, with a good social scene for students & by the sea.

Wondering if you could update us OP? I didn’t go to Uni but if I did I would have wanted a coastal one too.

spiderlight · 25/01/2024 15:22

Swansea - the main campus is pretty much ON the beach.

St Andrews.

@kerstina you might need to tag the OP if you want her to come back as this thread is a bit old Wink
