I have started a new thread as our previous one is nearly full. Name changed so I won’t forever be the OP. Originally for non early entry applicants I am sure anyone who would like to can be on this thread as we wait for final decisions to come in, negotiate UCAS extra and hope that the results will match the offers come August.

@Buttermilk72 whoop for your DS! And great news on all the other offers too.

Socrateswasrightaboutvoting · 25/03/2023 20:57

DS just got an offer for Imperial, still waiting for one Uni.

NotDonna · 26/03/2023 08:25

Fabulous new @Aurea and @Socrateswasrightaboutvoting is the one he’s waiting for the favourite?
Ive just been reading the oxbridge thread from last year and some of those weren’t getting offers until mid May! MID MAY!!

Socrateswasrightaboutvoting · 26/03/2023 08:44

@NotDonna Yes is was the one he really wants to do. Its been a stressful wait, for a brand new course, so no historical data to go on to work out likelihood of an offer. Mid May seem so unfair. They are just about to start their exams at that point. Has your DC got all their offers in?

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 26/03/2023 09:29

@Socrateswasrightaboutvoting well done to your Ds. What subject? Ds is likely to firm his Imperial offer, but just waiting to hear from St Andrews.

WendyWebersdrugget · 26/03/2023 10:02

So thrilled to hear of @Buttermilk72 DS getting the Bath offer! I think DS enjoyed the Southampton offer day yesterday - I know he was impressed by the accommodation. It’s a bit frustrating now as still waiting for Bristol and UCL but as time drags on as others have said here it’s getting too close to exams and risks putting off applying for accommodation.

NotDonna · 26/03/2023 10:11

@Socrateswasrightaboutvoting DD has been very lucky to have all hers in now. She applied for 4 (Bath x2, L’boro & York) she left a spare incase York didn’t reduce for core maths and would then need an insurance. She’s firmed Bath & insured York.
She’s going to Bath offer holder day on Wednesday so hopefully doesn’t change her mind! - anyone else? When’s yours @Buttermilk72

Economics, Finance and Data Science. It will be his firm. What course is your DS looking at?

Congratulations to your daughter, Bath is lovely, I am sure she wont change her mind. What is she off to study?

NotDonna · 26/03/2023 12:05

That sounds like a pretty cool course @Socrateswasrightaboutvoting DD planning to read Business. I always thought that was a bit of a ‘meh’ subject but some of the modules sound fab! She’s interested in sustainability in regard to Business and the course looks perfect. To be fair a lot of the business/management degrees are leaning that way. Rightly so!
We’ve got the offer holder day on Wed. I’m saying ‘we’ as she’s wanting me to tag along. Truth is I’m more excited than her! keeping a lid on it though as it’s not guaranteed but can’t help but be excited for her.
Has your DS firmed imperial now? What’s he insured or is he waiting? Is there an offer day?

Business is a great degree to do at Bath, it's renown for it placement degrees. Sustainability is big at the moment, as it should be. He hasn't firmed it yet, apparently you cant until all your offers are in. I am hoping he will come to the conclusion that it is better to withdraw so he can firm Imperial with Bristol as Insurance. Offer day is at the end of April, like you I am really excited but keeping a lid on it as he still has to get the grades.

WarningToTheCurious · 26/03/2023 13:51

@WendyWebersdrugget We couldn't get any places on open days at Southampton so would be interested in your DS's thoughts on the accommodation please?

NotDonna · 26/03/2023 14:08

@Socrateswasrightaboutvoting pleased I’m not the only one suppressing the excitement. My eldest withdrew from her uni offers and took an apprenticeship, which was during covid, so this has been a very new experience for a multitude of reasons.

WendyWebersdrugget · 26/03/2023 14:13

@WarningToTheCurious DS liked it more than what he saw in Manchester. There’s quite a lot of new accommodation and a lot that’s close to campus. The newer shared bathroom ones have bigger rooms than older en-suite, I think. The kitchens are also good. He was looking round the Wessex part of the accommodation. Mayflower (in town) is very swish but very expensive! I think mostly international students live there.

WarningToTheCurious · 26/03/2023 15:51

@WendyWebersdrugget Great - thank you!

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 26/03/2023 17:50

@Socrateswasrightaboutvoting Ds's offer is for the MEng in computer science. I heard your ds's course was also pretty stiff to get in to. Lots of interest for its initial year. Well done! I don't believe they can do anything on the accommodation front at Imperial until May, is that right? So, if that's the case, I guess ds can wait for the last offer to come in.

Congratulations to your son, that's a super competitive course to get onto. I think because it is the first year for EFDS they had something like over 3000 applicants for 75-90 spaces according to several sources. Its has been a stressful few months waiting for the interview and then the offer. All he has to do now is make sure he gets the grades. Yes, accommodation is not available until May which does take the pressure off in respect of the outstanding UCAS. Has your DS firmed already? Does he have an idea of which accommodation he would prefer? Some prices were eyewatering!

I get told off if I get too excited. I am not allowed to ask any questions, but it's just nice to be along for the ride.

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 26/03/2023 22:24

@Socrateswasrightaboutvoting No, ds hasn't firmed yet as he's still waiting for one response from St Andrews. I don't think you can firm until you've had all your replies. I've had a quick look at the halls - definitely pricey. And sadly no London weighting for Scottish students from the SAAS, our loan awarding body.

I didn't realise that. There are some sort of bursaries or scholarships available could that help. I haven't had a change to look into it yet. Lancaster has something that which isnt't means tested, I wondered if it was something like that. Might be worth a look.

PettsWoodParadise · 27/03/2023 16:20

@FriendlyLaundryMonster if your DS hasn’t had all replies he can still firm and insure if he withdraws from any outstanding ones, only helpful of course if he is no longer interested in the outstanding unis. Good luck with the St Andrews offer.

CountFoscosMice · 27/03/2023 16:26

I'm getting so pissed off with unis who haven't made their decision yet. Most of the others have managed to make their decisions by now. It's so arrogant.
(Looking at you, UCL...)

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 27/03/2023 16:41

@CountFoscosMice I'm with you on that! ds would really like to hear from St Andrews and it's a contender for his insurance if he is offered a place. The process has taken long enough already!

GMH1974 · 27/03/2023 17:48

@CountFoscosMice
@FriendlyLaundryMonster
Totally agree, radio silence from Bath here.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 27/03/2023 18:17

Finally an offer from Southampton for economics. Hope DS can get to an offer holders day there. Just waiting on St Andrews now.
