I have started a new thread as our previous one is nearly full. Name changed so I won’t forever be the OP. Originally for non early entry applicants I am sure anyone who would like to can be on this thread as we wait for final decisions to come in, negotiate UCAS extra and hope that the results will match the offers come August.

Last exam for DD today! Good luck to all those doing exams today, I hope they haven't got too many more to go!

NotDonna · 13/06/2023 06:42

@Weddingmum last one fir DD this morning too. She’s rather excited that it’ll all be over. I’m taking her away tomorrow for a nice holiday - back in time for speech day and final few days of school.

Weddingmum · 13/06/2023 06:47

@NotDonna Aw! That's lovely, we're going away on the 27th as she'll be 18, she's one of the last and is looking forward to it. Same with us, back for speech day and graduation, can't believe it's nearly all over!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 13/06/2023 07:00

Last one here today too. I'd say I would be looking forward to a less stressed dd but to be fair she has been a trooper and handled it well.
And then just a waiting game til results day.

She doesnt feel any were a complete disaster and did well last year at AS level. But then I remember dd1 being all excited for results day and then breaking her heart when she 'only' got 2 As and 2 Bs.

Final paper - Applied Maths - for DS this afternoon.

Only 1 other of his friends finishes today so off to play golf with him this evening.

At some point this week, he needs to tidy up his "revision room" so I can go back to using it as my home office, but no rush

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 13/06/2023 07:42

DS reaches half way today! 5 down 5 to
go.. doesn't finish until a week on Friday. His sister finishes her gcses this Fri tho so she will be free! And one less stress ball in the house
Hope all the DC finishing today have a lovely break!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 13/06/2023 18:25

Dd declared the maths paper to be the worst thing she has ever sat and is a bit down about it. But happy that she has done her best and is now done!

Dd declared the maths paper to be the worst thing she has ever sat and is a bit down about it. But happy that she has done her best and is now done!

Which one did she do @DrMadelineMaxwell

MarshaBradyo · 13/06/2023 18:36

Eg Edexcel or OCR etc

DrMadelineMaxwell · 13/06/2023 19:53

WJEC

kidstaxidriver · 13/06/2023 21:30

DS did Edexcel maths today and apparently that wasn’t a whole lot of laughs either!!

QueenofLouisiana · 13/06/2023 21:35

Penultimate exam here today: Lancastrians and Yorkists (maybe). DS didn’t seem too thrilled, but he didn’t really enjoy that part of the course.

Just politics to go now.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 13/06/2023 22:06

DS said this maths paper (pure and stats) was much harder than the pure one last week... he's slightly worried about the pure amd mechanics next week now...
OCR A here

DrMadelineMaxwell · 14/06/2023 07:18

Mechanics is not her strong suit. At AS last year she got an A overall but mechanics had come out as a C and it was just her high A in pure that dragged her overall grade up still. She chose to resit that unit so had an extra maths exam this year to Inc that.

WendyWebersdrugget · 14/06/2023 17:49

All finished here! So happy they are done and dusted. DS seems pretty cheerful so fingers crossed he’s done enough.

Update email from Leeds re DD's scholarship. Good news/bad news kind of a thing. Good news is, as matches info I'd found and been confused by on the website, it's not worth £2k, but half of the first year fees. Bad news, it's only taken off course fees and she can't choose to have it paid to her like the original offer stated. Shame, as that's the option she'd have preferred.

NotDonna · 26/06/2023 03:37

Well done to the scholarship despite it paying the undesired portion. I guess it means she’ll have a smaller loan but will need top up.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 26/06/2023 07:27

We are lucky in Wales that all students get the same maintenance loan (£10,710) and what differs according to your household circumstances is how much of that is given as a loan and how much is a grant that isnt repaid. Our finances mean she gets the lowest grant, which is £1000 that doesn't need repaying.
It means they don't need topping up much by parents but do end up with a larger debt at the end.
She wants to transfer her primark part time job if she can though as she is used to earning her own money.

NotDonna · 03/07/2023 11:19

The Welsh system seems so much fairer!
