I have started a new thread as our previous one is nearly full. Name changed so I won’t forever be the OP. Originally for non early entry applicants I am sure anyone who would like to can be on this thread as we wait for final decisions to come in, negotiate UCAS extra and hope that the results will match the offers come August.

OP posts:
ACJane · 03/06/2023 21:44

I raise you two on the same day with my dc's three on one day.

NotDonna · 03/06/2023 22:19

@ACJane 3 A levels on the same day? How is school handling that? Never heard of that before.
@mondaytosunday that’s a lot for you all to deal with! Good luck to her xx

DD had 5 prior to half term has 2 on Monday (economics & psychology), history Fri and another history Tues then OVER.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 03/06/2023 22:29

DS2 hasn't started yet. 10 exams in 3 weeks, first one Tues. He has been working well but just wants to get on with it now. His friend finishes the day he starts.... hard to keep focused.

mrsconradfisher · 03/06/2023 22:48

DS has really hit a wall this holiday. He has 3 exams this week, PE, Geography and PE. Then 1 a week for the following 2 weeks.

He is normally completely calm and collected but is a huge ball of stress (mainly due to Geography) and is convinced he isn’t going to get the grades he needs. I’ve convinced him to go out tonight (the first time he has left the house since Tuesday) to a friends 18th party.

StartinOverAgain · 04/06/2023 05:53

Just joining you all rather late if that's ok. DS has 12 exams in the next 3 weeks, 6 of those in the 3rd week 😳 he's only done 1 so far.

Half term they were expected in college 3/4 days and they aren't on study leave which as tiring as it will be, I think is good and DS agrees.

Can't wait for it to be over for him. He's firmed UCL, completed accommodation forms...

He's my first to go as eldest went as a mature student and lived at home, middle one did an engineering apprenticeship.

Nerve wracking!

Era · 04/06/2023 08:28

Ds1 firmed Lancaster yesterday and reserved Exeter. He has four left now. Economics history and English all this week and then a final history the following week. He’s barely been out of his room all half term.

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 04/06/2023 09:19

Loads of exams still to come for ds here. He’s already done 2 and has 10 left as well as STEP and two are on his last day. He has been working absolutely methodically and well all half term. Won’t finish until 23rd June. I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like waiting for the results. He’s firmed Imperial.

NotDonna · 04/06/2023 23:56

@mrsconradfisher do hope your DS enjoyed his friend’s 18th. There has to be some balance doesn’t there?

troppibambini6 · 05/06/2023 22:10

Yes absolutely needs to be some balance. Dd is knackered and grumpy I feel like I'm walking on egg shells but I keep reminding myself it's much harder for her (as I get my head bitten off for daring to say good morning!)

She had English and psychology today. Went well she thought but felt English was the one she was least happy with so far but ok on The whole.
She doesn't finish til the 26th. She's done 5 so far and just has three philosophy, theology and ethics papers left. One every Monday for the next 3 weeks.

Hope everyone else is hanging in there?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 09/06/2023 23:33

The end is in sight....nearly. 2 more exams left and she doesn't seem to have found any of them too hideous. She works at the weekend, but has booked tomorrow off to revise for Monday's law exam.

Bit of a mood-lift for her - she has been awarded a scholarship from Leeds business school. She was surprised by it as it is something they vet all applications for and them award them to 15 students. It's £2k either off fees or paid in 10 chunks through the year and all she now needs to do is make her offer grades to get it.

cptartapp · 10/06/2023 07:30

Another blazing hot start to the day in Lancashire here. It's set to hit the high 20's today. Poor DS up in his bedroom ploughing on. Chemistry next on Monday. Still seven exams to go!
COVID certainly taught this generation resilience. I have a whole new load of admiration for him.

COVID certainly taught this generation resilience. I have a whole new load of admiration for him.

I'm glad you wrote that because MN is full of posters excusing enuii and lack of resilience on Covid. The young people I know got on with their lives as best they could during the lockdowns and - as soon as they could - they threw themselves back into studying, working, socialising, sports etc.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 10/06/2023 11:47

Mine (one A levels and one GCSEs) have decamped to the kitchen table as their rooms face south abd are already baking hot

Peverellshire · 10/06/2023 16:03

Does everyone think that the A levels really will be as 'tough' to 'do well' in as per pre COVID years? Completely back to normal in other words.

Oh I loathed Covid for the young and thought we did them a disservice

Aside from that though Ds is showing his best side currently

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 10/06/2023 16:16

I think that the proportions of grade will be like they were in 2019, at least that is what they are aiming for. But, with all this cohort have been through, the performances may not be as good and so the grade boundaries may be lower than in 2019.

WendyWebersdrugget · 10/06/2023 17:29

Baking got here but DS coping! Only 2 exams to go and he’s been remarkably cheerful so hopefully all good. I do think the kids have been very resilient despite all the turmoil of previous years.

tennissquare · 10/06/2023 18:05

@SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun , yes I work in education and that is the general thought plus a bit of leniency shown by the uni's for a slipped grade etc.

hellypad · 10/06/2023 20:53

DD has finished her A levels now, she had her last one yesterday. She is so relieved and she is now quite relaxed about the results as she knows there is nothing else she can do now just wait till August and see what it brings.

mondaytosunday · 10/06/2023 22:26

Well done to your @DrMadelineMaxwell! A nice boost!
My daughter and another got themselves settled for History (extra pens, pencil and rubber, highlighters all laid out) when invigilator smartly realised they would soon be under direct sunlight from the skylights so had them move thank goodness. She had a migraine and shoulder pain but powered though with the help of a few rest breaks (she has MS). Just one more History now and she wouldn't even sit down for dinner tonight - work work work.
God I'll be glad when it's all over!

stilldumdedumming · 11/06/2023 19:31

Just sent ds to bed - he's been up for 30 hours! He's a crammer and it's not unusual for him. But even by his standards he's left it late! Last exam tomorrow.

Era · 11/06/2023 21:25

Ds had a nice surprise today. He thought the last history exam was tomorrow but it’s Tuesday so he’s having the evening off after working solidly all day

Titsywoo · 11/06/2023 21:59

DD is back to work tomorrow - she took some time off from her part time job during revision and exams but now wants to save for uni so has asked for 36 hours a week. They have given her 29 this week - she'll be working in the kitchen and I don't envy her in this heat!

NotDonna · 12/06/2023 23:25

well done to your DD @DrMadelineMaxwell is she wanting to study ‘business’ or something related? My DD has applied for Business albeit not Leeds.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 12/06/2023 23:53

She has applied to the business school for accounting and finance.
