I have started a new thread as our previous one is nearly full. Name changed so I won’t forever be the OP. Originally for non early entry applicants I am sure anyone who would like to can be on this thread as we wait for final decisions to come in, negotiate UCAS extra and hope that the results will match the offers come August.

Both of my sons are still waiting from Durham, and 1 from LSE. I’m not expecting LSE until just before the cut off ( this was what happened last year 🤦‍♀️) and I guess Durham will be 21st April…

Buttermilk72 · 27/03/2023 22:38

@SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun Congratulations on the Economics offer!!!

TJsAunt · 28/03/2023 11:11

Just found this! UCAS appears to be some new form of torture - don't remember it being like this in the 80s? Sounds like your DC are all having similar experiences...

DS applying for engineering - finally heard from his favourite today (Bath). Been a v long wait and still waiting to hear from Bristol -what is the delay on this??

Just trying to find out when the offer holder day is so he can visit - am unsure about him self catering as he'll just eat noodles and sausage rolls the whole time!!

Era · 28/03/2023 11:40

Everyone seems to be waiting on St Andrews. Not a lot happening on the offer front up there it seems. Lots of very frustrated students on TSR.

PettsWoodParadise · 28/03/2023 20:20

DD finally heard from UCL today an offer one grade below her top preference offer. Just waiting on Durham offer or rejection now.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 29/03/2023 07:23

Great news, PettsWoodParadise. Hope Durham come back to your DD soon too.

DD finally heard from UCL today an offer one grade below her top preference offer. Just waiting on Durham offer or rejection now.

Congrats! Which course?
My DC was rejected for Law yesterday - reason given - 'LNAT not high enough'. They must have a huge number of unbelievably strong candidates as DC got 31 in LNAT which is considered very good.

PettsWoodParadise · 29/03/2023 10:13

Sorry to hear that @CountFoscosMice i worked in the legal field (but not as a lawyer) for years and just taken a pay cut to a more sane environment and different sector. I have not discouraged DD from law but have made it clear the lifestyle in Corporate Law is something not to take on lightly. I’ve also seen tons of law graduates never get training contracts and it must be crushing. I am not convinced the new routes in are going to make it any better, but here’s hoping for your DD. The law firm i worked for often took students for their placement year and then most of them got training contracts on the back of their placement year, the likes of Southampton and Queen Mary’s and this was a top law firm.

DD is going to study English which I suspect is not as competitive as Law or the STEM subjects.

CountFoscosMice · 29/03/2023 10:24

Good luck to your daughter, PettsWood! I may be biased towards an English degree Wink

Flurry of St andrews rejections being reported on TSR this afternoon. Quite stressful! DC is pressing refresh every few minutes!

Tree543 · 29/03/2023 16:06

My ds is still waiting for Bath, he knows others waiting as well

Era · 29/03/2023 16:17

It's very frustrating. I know they have a lot of applications to get through but they clearly know how many offers they have to make to fill their spaces and they will broadly go on academics so you'd think they could at least send out rejections quickly at the bottom end and acceptances at the very top end even if they then have to spend longer on the cluster in the middle which are more similar.

NotDonna · 29/03/2023 20:16

Good luck to all those still waiting for offers 🤞🏼
Had a successful offer holder day at Bath today. Tour, course details, placement info etc. No room viewing as students still on site til Friday but having them around gave a better sense of what it may be like as opposed to a quiet weekend/holiday. DD’s tour was separate to mine and had lots of questions answered. Super friendly and confirmed that it’s her first choice.

troppibambini6 · 30/03/2023 17:42

Fingers crossed for everyone waiting for offers still.
Dd is definite Leeds is her first choice and was certain that Newcastle was her insurance but now isn't 100% sure and is swaying between Newcastle and Sheffield.
The open day at Sheffield was awful for law and I totally understand why she said she didn't like it and didn't want to go there.
I think as a city and university it would be a good fit and she thinks she might have been a bit hasty so we are going to the offer day on the 15th to finally decide one way or the other.
I really want her to do her her firm and insurance and get cracking with applying for accommodation but need to wait until after 15th.
She's feeling stressed and harassed with alevels and decision making and I'm trying to bite my tongue and remember what it was like but she's not the easiest person to live with at the moment!
Anyone else's dc being a little "spirited" at the moment?!!

PettsWoodParadise · 30/03/2023 19:27

Final offer for DD came in today from Durham, good luck everyone else waiting. DD won’t be taking up a Durham place so hope that is good news for someone else.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 30/03/2023 19:39

DS has a campus tour booked now for Southampton - (he feels the offer holder day is too close to A levels) and is going to Cardiff a couple of days later. Great that Durham have made a decision PettsWoodParadise. Is your daughter going to firm and insure her places now? All getting a quite real.

KittyMcKitty · 30/03/2023 19:42

Great news for your dd @PettsWoodParadise - I saw on the Oxbridge thread that your dd has insured York. My dd has also insured York and we are debating what we should do about the accommodation as it seems we apply for it at York for insurance too?

PettsWoodParadise · 30/03/2023 19:43

Thanks @SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun DD has just submitted her firm and insurance to UCAS.

Good luck to your DS for the offer holder says, hope they give him the insight he is looking for.

PettsWoodParadise · 30/03/2023 19:46

DD is going to sleep on the accommodation option for York, I think she is so set on her top choice choosing accommodation at an insurance isn’t in her mindset right now, but at the same time knows she will be happy at York if ot comes to it.

good luck to your DD @KittyMcKitty

Fourcandlesx · 30/03/2023 20:14

@troppibambini6 well done on the Leeds offer. My son got his too so we will also be there on 15th 🙂. Totally agree about the Sheffield law offer day and it wasn't the best.

KittyMcKitty · 30/03/2023 20:14

Dd is dithering about what to do with the accommodation at York she firmed Durham and insured York in January.

Good luck to your ds too - likewise dd would be very happy at either of her choices - it was her first choice for ages until she visited Durham and got sucked into the dream

KittyMcKitty · 30/03/2023 20:15

Dd not ds!

NotDonna · 30/03/2023 22:14

@KittyMcKitty my DD has insured York too but I thought accommodation was only for students who firmed. Has your DD received something saying otherwise?

KittyMcKitty · 30/03/2023 22:32

They said something in a talk at the offer holders day which implied we should book …

Era · 30/03/2023 23:43

I’m pretty sure you can only book accommodation at York once you’ve accepted a place ie they’re your firm choice or you’ve been automatically accepted there because they’re your insurance but you’ve not met the conditions of your firm offer.
