That’s the first offer for our thread @christmaspartyseason ! Huge huge congratulations

Pip4764 · 19/12/2022 21:02

@christmaspartyseason well done!! Must be a huge relief!! We are 2 interviews down (Sheffield and Aberdeen)….must say the drive to Aberdeen was much more pleasant!!

christmaspartyseason · 19/12/2022 21:16

Thanks everyone!
I wish all unis offered so quickly. It's such a relief to have one offer as takes the pressure off. It was her 1st interview and wasn't confident about it at all.

UnclearNuclear · 20/12/2022 00:02

Fantastic news @christmaspartyseason well done to your dd!

Nothing like planning ahead 🙄but lots of references on TSR to the likelihood of Extra and Clearing including medicine this year. DD has 2 interviews so far, still waiting to hear from the other 2 so have everything crossed we won't need to go down that route, but I can't seem to get my head around how it works, particularly as Extra appears to run Feb - July? Is that right? Surely some med schools haven't offered by then? She already has an offer for her 5th choice - I understand she'd need to decline that in order to be eligible for Extra?

If anyone can point to somewhere that explains it for med students, that would be very helpful.

mumsneedwine · 20/12/2022 16:08

@Africa2go it's v v unlikely to happen I think. Unis will over offer this year, as normal, and so most will fill all their spots. I think there is an assumption that Unis are all fishing from the same pool of the higher UCATs but even if they are the chances that everyone chooses the same Unis are slim. We still don't know if they will operate waitlists again and if they do then there will be no chance.
Extra won't happen for medicine unless something v weird happens. Clearing might for a few (one or two), and even then it will be for a handful of places.

Monkey2001 · 20/12/2022 16:25

Ah @mumsneedwine I think there will be some in Extra and more in Clearing this year. I predict that SGUL will use their old policy of using Extra to pick up good candidates and I think several might be in Clearing, probably including Sheffield, UEA and Lancaster. We will see.....

Monkey2001 · 20/12/2022 16:27

But @Africa2go don't worry about it until your DD hears back from all her choices. I expect some of us will keep an eye on it and update the thread.

mumsneedwine · 20/12/2022 17:36

@Monkey2001 I think they'll have wait lists again. Saves them having to re interview. But we will see. Extra would mean they have not offered enough places, which would be a bit weird.

BungledBundle · 20/12/2022 17:44

Very well done to your DD, @christmaspartyseason ! Dundee seems a great medical school (not that I know much Grin)

Africa2go · 20/12/2022 17:48

Many thanks @mumsneedwine and @Monkey2001 clearly lacking in the positive thinking today Smile

I agree that they will use waiting lists, and continue making offers up until the May deadline but I think there will not be enough firm offer holders at some places even if they go to the bottom of the waiting lists. I think it will be a great year to be on a waiting list!

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 21/12/2022 06:57

Really hope you are right@Monkey2001, and that dd gets onto some waiting lists. What do you think will happen for people with offers who miss a grade, will there be any hope? Will they be tempted to offer rather than reinterview? I know obviously in recent years there have been lots of high grades and lots of others to step in. Grades shouldn't be an issue for dd but there is so much content for Biology and random facts they are expected to know.

Monkey2001 · 21/12/2022 08:59

@Unexpecteddrivinginstructor it will vary by medical school and depend on how many miss the grades, how much the med school has over-offered, how many people on the waiting list got the grades. For 2019 entry Leeds let in loads of people with AAB because they did not over offer much. There is data around on how flexible universities have been in the past.

Pip4764 · 21/12/2022 10:27

That’s St Andrews sending out interview invites 😀

Monkey2001 · 21/12/2022 12:09

...... and offers now reported from Dundee, King's, Glasgow and Bristol.

Thethingswedoforlove · 21/12/2022 12:36

Are those offers earlier than last year do we know <hoping for reasons to be encouraged> ?
