@mumsneedwine thanks. Yes, will email and give university a call too on Monday. I am kicking myself for not knowing about this 😔

Monkey2001 · 17/12/2022 12:11

@kk10 hope they accept the school results sheet. There are lots of gap year applicants on TSR sending in their results sheets because they don't have A level results yet, so should be a routine thing. They might want the school to certify the sheet (stamp and sign).

ARU asked for a copy of the GCSE certificate as well.

ARU asked for a copy of the GCSE certificate as well.

Yes, and when my son started at ARU, he had to take his actual GCSE certificates with him and show them to the admission staff.

Good morning all, with interview season well underway DD is struggling for a ‘plain English’ explanation of the difference between NHS England and NHS Scotland for an upcoming interview…..can anyone assist please? Hope everyone is coping ok?!

Monkey2001 · 18/12/2022 10:07

@Pip4764 prescriptions are free in Scotland (and Wales) and it looks like nurses might be paid more there soon. There are logistics issues with remote communities - you get flying doctors in Orkney and other islands. There are historically higher rates of alcohol abuse in Scotland, which led to the.minimum unit pricing. I am sure there must be YouTubers covering it.

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 18/12/2022 10:26

Health care is one of the devolved responsiilities and it has always been separately administered to NHS in England. There can be problems though for people crossing the borders, for example the covid vaccine originally didn't transfer if you had one in one place and another in a different country.

Pip4764 · 18/12/2022 11:23

Monkey2001 Unexpecteddrivinginstructor thank you both, think I was maybe just trying to overthink it….much appreciated!

mumsneedwine · 18/12/2022 12:24

@Pip4764 junior doctor contracts are still the old ones in Wales, so you can be on rota 7 days in a row. And Scotland you get paid a bit more

Free prescriptions as a PP said; also NHS dentistry much more readily available. Also free(er) care for the elderly, which might have an impact on freeing up wards? I don't know; you might have to look into this, but there is definitely a difference between older people's care funding in Scotland and England.

Rejection from hyms here with a number of points above last year’s cut off. We didn’t think it was that risky. Clearly cut offs are going up more than we expected. Feeling sad for dd.

Monkey2001 · 19/12/2022 15:21

Sorry to hear that @Thethingswedoforlove . Has she got any interviews? If she is Y13, most who end up with a gap year feel that it was really good for them.

Thethingswedoforlove · 19/12/2022 15:28

Thanks @Monkey2001 she has Nottingham and Lincoln interview already. And waiting to hear re liverpool. All not lost and we already know a gap year isn’t a bad option. Just hurts today I guess. And was a bit of a surprise given the cut off last year.

Monkey2001 · 19/12/2022 16:28

Fingers crossed for Nottingham and Lincoln then @Thethingswedoforlove . I know a newly qualified doctor who went to Nottingham - it was his only interview and only offer.

Thethingswedoforlove · 19/12/2022 16:40

Thanks @Monkey2001. she loves the course they offer so would be a great outcome to get an offer from either. She loved the look of liverpool too so holding out for at least an interview tjere even though chance of offer frkm an interview there is lower. Looks like strange things are happening to cut offs this year

Peachy2005 · 19/12/2022 16:43

Sorry to hear that @Thethingswedoforlove but hopefully her other choices will be successful.

DD got her Newcastle interview offer today so that’s 3 out of 4 interview offers in and still hoping to hear from Liverpool (fingers crossed). Of course we panicked and booked a date during her Mocks but it’ll be fine I hope.

Thethingswedoforlove · 19/12/2022 16:44

Congrats @Peachy2005 - looking great for your dd

Africa2go · 19/12/2022 17:09

@Thethingswedoforlove I think the HYMS score this year has gone up a UCAT decile (so it looks as though its 4 points higher than last year - which is a UCAT decile in their scoring). I think quite a few of the UCAT unis have cut offs 60/70/80 pts higher than last year. Hope your DD is OK - its brutal getting rejected. Fingers crossed for Lincoln/Notts and Liverpool.

Africa2go · 19/12/2022 17:10

Great news @Peachy2005

Thethingswedoforlove · 19/12/2022 17:47

Yes @africa I realised that re the decile. And dd was in the decile above in the original cuts and went down in the actual thing ucat decile outcomes. 10 ucat points higher and she Wd have been decile above. But it is what it is. Resilience is necessary in the life of a medic. She will be ok.

christmaspartyseason · 19/12/2022 18:02

My DD got an offer from Dundee! Her interview didn't go particularly well so just goes to show as others here have said you just don't know.

Peachy2005 · 19/12/2022 18:09

That’s fab @christmaspartyseason delighted for you both!! I bet she’s walking on air 😁

christmaspartyseason · 19/12/2022 18:47

@Peachy2005 thanks. She's delighted and also very shocked. She assumed would be waiting until Feb/March for outcome. It's given her a massive boost as her interviews have been in the middle of her mocks. It's been such a stressful time.

GoldieRetrieversRule1 · 19/12/2022 19:07

Congratulations @christmaspartyseason to your DD and to you! What a news! 😀

Monkey2001 · 19/12/2022 20:25

Congratulations @christmaspartyseason , that is wonderful news just before Christmas! Dundee is one of GANFYD's favourite medical schools - high praise!
