Following on from the Oxbridge rejects thread but I've got rid of those two words. I for one am interested to know where they all end up and when Durham might finally deign to reject/offer DS...

DS is into Bath with 2A* + A phew!

Volterra · 18/08/2022 14:53

Great news @MillicentFaucet ! There’s a few of us for Bath.

Yes lots of Bath parents now. Shall we all meet up at drop off and have a good cry glass of something fizzy?! 😜

Piggywaspushed · 18/08/2022 15:22

As a thread original who the bogged off to lurk, just dashing back in to report two A*s , an A and EPQ A.

Makes up for Cambridge implying he was ordinary.

Sounds good to me 😀😀

Well done to him @Piggywaspushed

Feeling a touch guilty as it wasn’t immediately obvious what DS’s results were and I think when he said I said something along the lines of was he sure!

Piggywaspushed · 18/08/2022 16:18

By all accounts, she is not especially regal and very pleasant.

I note the Spencer having a rather snide pop at his son's school. Poor form.

Eightytwenty · 18/08/2022 17:10

He is a nob though.

Darbs76 · 18/08/2022 17:15

Hi all

DS got 3 A*’s and is off to 1st choice Warwick to study MORSE. St Andrews was his insurance so I’m happy I’m not driving to Scotland the day I get back from the US on 4th September! Off in the morning to celebrate DS turning 18 a few days ago too.

He smashed the grade boundaries, in your face Oxford.

just going to catch up how everyone else has done.

Darbs76 · 18/08/2022 17:20

Ah DS could have hooked up with Lady Louise! But that was his insurance and not needed! Lol

well done all, in your faces Oxbridge! Your loss

Puffalicious · 18/08/2022 17:44

I'm laughing really hard here! Told DH Lady Louise will be the year below DNephew at St As (same course) and he immediately has texted him to say 'Get in there. Maybe she'll like a bit of rough!' He's working class Glaswegian- but yoi never know 🤣🤣🤣

Ha! That is good advice.

I am glad DC of most posters on this thread have done well. There is another thread by a mum whose DS is devastated at not getting his coveted uni and I really feel for her. My own DS' coveted uni was LSE ( rather than Cambridge), and he contemplated taking a gap year ( he now has exceeded their offer), but I think he has moved on from that disappointment.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 18/08/2022 18:24

@Piggywaspushed @Darbs76 Fantastic results....yes in your face Oxbridge! We always knew (hoped) they would do well and so they have, just goes to show the enormous effort they have all put in. Now to talk of freshers and accommodation choices, still cannot believe she will be going.

ladygrinningsoul · 18/08/2022 19:25

@Neolara I think I read something about accommodation being sent out at least 15 days before they start

Eightytwenty · 18/08/2022 19:35

Ha ha. Suspect she might have a type. 👑💰💷

Congratulations to all particularly the parent a few parents up whose son only moved here recently (international family) which reminded me of a boy in the press who came over from Ukraine (son of 2 Ukrainian lawyers but his father is now fighting there) who did very well after a short period and got a Durham place.

Very good results on here - well done to everyone. I am the only one of my siblings who did not try for and did not get into Oxbridge and the same for my 5 graduate children. Obviously it is a huge achievement to go to Oxbridge but it is not the be all and end all eg about 7% of trainee lawyers in top firms went to each of them, Durham and Bristol are about 6% and 5% www.chambersstudent.co.uk/where-to-start/newsletter/law-firms-preferred-universities-2019 and that will be mirrored across most high paying career areas.

lot123 · 19/08/2022 07:38

I felt for the medicine applicants yesterday. One was delighted to be going to Oxford. Another didn't get their grades and found a biomedical science place in clearing in the hope they can move to medicine after the first year if their results are good enough.

My son's doing a fairly ubiquitous subject with lots of places across the universities. It's a bit all or nothing for the medics plus it's their career path in a way the non-vocational degrees aren't. I know there's different routes into medicine but yesterday was particularly stressful for them.

fishingeagle · 19/08/2022 08:05

I'd just like to say thank you for all the support I've received on here - those who've been in it for the long haul might remember DS only received the one horribly high offer from Edinburgh, so no insurance at all. To his and our utter delight he made it and will be off to Edinburgh on the 11th. To anyone whose DC had a set-back yesterday; you're in my thoughts as you help them re-group and find their path in life. I was preparing to have to do that and I know it's not easy. All will be well.

Volterra · 19/08/2022 08:07

I slept 7.5 glorious hours which is the longest in months 😀So proud of DS, I really wasn’t expecting it but probably should have as he was quietly confident. I was just so worried about him meeting his offer which was what he needed, that I hadn’t thought about him exceeding it. Been such a rubbish year for us that as I have felt like people must think I am trolling on here on the other A level thread so it’s lovely to have something to celebrate.

Great to read about the Ukrainian lad @Xenia . Agree @lot123 about the medics, really tough for them if they didn’t meet offers.

My biggest hope for DS is that he thrives socially. That has never come very easily and my concern was that if he had have got into Oxford that with the workload and short terms he would just focus on working and not bother with the social aspect.

Volterra · 19/08/2022 09:19

Brilliant news @fishingeagle , so pleased to hear that .

I have suggested to @272Newnames that she comes over as lack of Bath people on other thread, we seem to be over here.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 19/08/2022 09:26

@fishingeagle Wonderful news and what a relief it must be. I hope that he will be very happy at Edinburgh. I think then all of our DC hit their grades and got their places, how wonderful.

Eightytwenty · 19/08/2022 09:39

Yay! @fishingeagle that is tremendous news. Am sure we’ve all aged in this process. Was just warning a mother who is about to embark on the path that it’s really turned me into a crazy over-invested parent (which is new and in a way I don’t really recognise!) Hopefully I’ll get over it for DS2 & DD.

272Newnames · 19/08/2022 09:45

Thanks @Volterra

DS is off to Bath to study engineering. Lovely to see some other future Bath parents here. I went to Bath myself so know it well, it is a lot larger than when I went but it's a lovely uni and a lovely city. I just hope DS loves it as much as I do.

Now just the wait to find out what accommodation they have been allocated, which they say will be by email in late August/ early September. I'd be interested to know when other people here about it.

doubleshotcappuccino · 19/08/2022 10:07

@fishingeagle amazing news ! Congratulations all ..actually managed to get some sleep last night and I see a smiling DD !
