Following on from the Oxbridge rejects thread but I've got rid of those two words. I for one am interested to know where they all end up and when Durham might finally deign to reject/offer DS...

Despite my twins (who both went to Bristol) having finished their last exams this summer I am still following this thread and good luck to those awaiting results.

Tango 4 of us in the family who had never once had covid ever all got it at a family event about 3 weeks ago presumably all on the same day - I think there must be an incredibly transmissable current variety of covid on the loose.

Luckily all four of us were fine - I didn't even get a cough or a runny nose as bad as a cold (I was hot and cold one night and was sick once but depite being the oldest person in our group who caught it, I had it the mildest and the others are fine too - what a weird illness it is, but having feared it since early 2020 I now feel invincible). I hope you are okay with it and sorry about your awful summer.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 16/08/2022 12:26

Ah @Xenia thanks for the well wishes and yes it spread like wildfire amongst my community team so very virulent. Mine was all in my head and sadly out of my bottom Blush glad you're better though. Thanks for cheering us nervous Mums along!

LobeliaBaggins · 17/08/2022 06:57

Hi everyone, I was on this thread earlier as California Drumming. Nervously waiiting for DS's results tomorrow. DS is doom mongering and not sure he is going to make his UCL offer as his OCR board exams were hideous, especially FM and Physics. He is not keen on his insurance.

We are an international family and some of his overseas friends have not made their offers:( This year is hard! ( on top of the last two hard pandemic years).

Good luck to everyone else waiting.

doubleshotcappuccino · 17/08/2022 07:40

@LobeliaBaggins I remember you California ! Love the expression doom mongering ! Good Luck for tomorrow.. current mood in for singleshot is very much the same ...

Darbs76 · 17/08/2022 07:45

Hi all, just popped back to say huge congrats to those who got amazing higher results, in your face Oxbridge! And good luck to those getting A level results tomorrow. DS is very confident and I’m hoping it’s not over confidence though I know it’s pretty likely he’s done amazing. I guess not sitting those GCSE’s (he actually sat 1 in year 10 pre covid) has made me a bit wary, but he did more revision that humanely possible so hopefully I’ll be back tomorrow with good news. He turned 18 on Sunday, one of the babies of the year and we go to the US on Friday, so really hope we don’t have any clearing to sort as I’m working tomorrow too (but at home) apart from a late start to pick up the A level results

Go smash it kids! I hope they all enjoy that experience picking up the results from exams they actually sat! I still remember collecting mine!

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 17/08/2022 08:32

Lovely to see the old names back! DD thinks they went ok but with all the talk of downgrades now she isnt sure. She never feels overly confident with English Lit but her grades have never been below on A and she got 9, 9 at GCSE so hopefully nothing went terribly wrong. Gosh I am nervous for them....GOOD LUCK to them all and please come back and share in their (hopefully) good news.

Inthecathouseagain · 17/08/2022 10:58

Just wanted to wish the very best of luck to everyone for tomorrow.

Also, I think all the "doom mongering' in the press these last few days about lower grades this year is uncalled for and the last thing they all need, frankly. Yes ok, grades, on average, may be a few percentage points lower than 2021, but it's worth emphasising that grades will still be significantly higher than the last 'normal' year which was 2019. Why not report that - or at least give more balanced headlines?

Best wishes again!

Eightytwenty · 17/08/2022 11:47

Good luck everyone. Hope there are lots of relieved parents and delighted kids.

Puffalicious · 17/08/2022 15:25

I'm waiting in anticipation for all the A level results. HUGE good luck to everyone. I'm crossing all fingers and all toes.

DS1 got an update that he got A band 1s in all his additional Highers. Just waiting on Advanced Higher feedback as those were through the university. Further in your face, Oxford 🤨

ACloseMatch · 17/08/2022 15:29

DD is a little giddy now with it all being very close and very real.

She has decided for now, that if she makes her offer (who knows with all the talk of downgrades!) she will most likely take it because it is a good university and a good course. However, if he gets a better mark for French than her uni subject (a possibility) she may look to clearing to see if she can pick up a combined. However, I feel (hope?) that's unlikely.

She says she thinks she wants to go into school herself to pick up her results, but for us to be on standby if she is the only one on her own (most parents do seem to attend) or if she wants to, or has to make changes. We live minutes from school and will make sure we are prepared for a rapid exit, so it should all be fine either way.

Good luck everyone.

OzonoffS · 17/08/2022 17:46

Congratulations to your DS @Puffalicious ! I got 2 bands ones for my O Grades, and still bring it up every opportunity I get. Grin

Hopetogouni · 17/08/2022 18:59

Good luck everyone!

OxanaVorontsova · 17/08/2022 22:01

Congratulations to the successful Scots 👏👏 and very best of luck for tomorrow everyone 😬🤞

angieloumc · 17/08/2022 22:06

Good luck to everyone's DC for tomorrow, let's hope we all have good news.

Needmoresleep · 17/08/2022 23:33

I would like to add my best wishes for your amazing and resilient DC.

Valleyofthedollymix · 18/08/2022 07:15

Gosh anyone else feeling quite glad their child didn’t get an oxbridge offer. I’m worried enough about the far lower offer he has for his favourite. The stakes would be even higher.

Good luck to all the lovely families.

OxanaVorontsova · 18/08/2022 07:22

D’s non oxbridge offer is no lower, so we’ve got plans B-Z lined up! The media coverage hasn’t helped.

Valleyofthedollymix · 18/08/2022 07:37

We have no plan b-z either as he hasn’t got an insurance - his favourite was lowest offer but now I think he should have added one in case it was more flexible. He says he won’t look at clearing but will retake.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 18/08/2022 07:40

Yes! I couldnt imagine the pressure right now. Imagine getting an offer after going through all that and not meeting the grades, now that would be awful....DD is sat next to me with her laptop stressing us both out Shock

OxanaVorontsova · 18/08/2022 07:41

Hopefully he’ll be ok. Nerve wracking final wait though!

Longtimenewsee · 18/08/2022 07:47

Good luck everyone!

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 18/08/2022 08:08
