Thought I would start a new thread as its likely to fill up quick now.

So here we are after many months of applications, assessments and interviews. The wait is finally over for those with DC who have applied to Oxford. Those with Cambridge applicants have another 2 weeks to wait until the 25th Jan (bummer!!)

You have all been a lovely bunch to share this journey with and I wish your dc nothing but the BEST OF LUCK for tomorrow (and the 25th). Flowers
@VikingNorthUtsire - sorry to hear that. I hope he's taking it OK? Does he have offers in which he's happy with?
Thanks for asking. He sounds ok on whatsapp 😊

Only two of his other choices have responded to his application so far. So two offers including one from Imperial which will tick the boxes for reputation and excellent teaching but a rather different kettle of fish in terms of student life!

So I don't think he knows what Plan B is yet.

VikingNorthUtsire · 11/01/2022 14:26

Sorry especially to hear about your DS @kitnkaboodle, I was hoping he'd get it this time. He sounds like a great kid who will do well.

kitnkaboodle · 11/01/2022 14:28

Thanks everyone. I'm surprised how utterly dejected I feel! Blush I have come out shopping having checked he's ok - which he is. He's said that he couldn't have done anything more, so that is some consolation. Last year he was absolutely gutted to not get an interview, full of 'what ifs', but this time he's more stoical that it is what it is.
He gave off so many positive vibes after his interviews, though, that I think it lulled me into high expectations. I kept low key in front of him, thankfully, but I feel quite dashed today. My bad!

SarahAndQuack · 11/01/2022 14:38

@everythingcrossed

Thanks - but just to clarify, she did sit the exam, it implies that the university has lost the transcript.
If they have it's on them - she absolutely needs to follow this up.
Valleyofthedollymix · 11/01/2022 14:40

I was gunning for your older boy @kitnkaboodle - I always root for the underdog and the one who's overcome hurdles. However, he has proved he's got resilience in spades and from my experience of Oxford, there are lots who don't have this and get a shock on graduating.

Horace123 · 11/01/2022 15:02

@SirVixofVixHall Re how it works if you get interviews at more than one college ... DS applied for College A and had interview. He then got asked to interview at College B and College C. This morning he got an email from College B with an offer and UCAS had the offer information with the College B code. Funnily enough he thought the College B was the hardest interview.

Frankl · 11/01/2022 15:02

She has an offer for Earth Sciences, not from the college which she applied to, but one of the others in which she was interviewed

Frankl · 11/01/2022 15:05
@Frankl - clever girls! Are they all oxbridge?
DD1 is waiting for C, DD2 and 3 withdrawn their applications post interview from O as they recieved full scholarships for the US, and DD4 just heard about her O offer today

kitnkaboodle · 11/01/2022 15:06

I'm so touched by people's reaction to DS1's rejection (and the fact that you've followed his 'story'). It's very heartening and yes, resilience is one thing he's sure acquiring. It's raw at the moment and I'm not even ready yet to hear 'he'll do well wherever he goes'. 🥺 He's poured his all into his oxford application since September, so we all need some time to recalibrate. Sucks at the moment...

A friend of dd had this last year for a different university. She received a rejection staying she had not attended part of the interview. When she pointed out that she had, they acknowledged their error and made an offer. She emailed admissions I believe.
foodledoff · 11/01/2022 15:13

Just chipping in as a parent of a DS who was rejected from Oxford pre-interview to say well done to those who've been successful and commiserations to those who have not.

@kitnkaboodle so sorry to hear your news today, I remember that your DS did the PAT at the same time as mine and got through to the interview stage. Yes, definitely take your time and recalibrate ...

rifling · 11/01/2022 15:22

Just lurking as my ds is applying next year.

@kitnkaboodle Really sorry to hear that. Many years ago I applied to Cambridge two years running and got rejected both times. It really hit me hard as it was all I had wanted to do for many years and my school was absolutely useless as they didn't really expect anyone to even apply! I hope he has a back up plan that will work out really well for him.

Shimy · 11/01/2022 15:23

@kitnkaboodle Sorry about the news. My approach to situations like this is let's stop talking about the lost place and talk about the one we're actually going to. In our house, it has helped lift spirits and get over the rejection quicker. Can I ask where he might be going to now?

carben · 11/01/2022 15:54

DD has an offer to do maths at University College. Did an open application and was interviewed by New College, Lincoln and Mansfield but offered a completely different one! Needs to get A* x 2 and an A. As her school is low performing has also been offered Opportunity Oxford to bridge the gap between school and Uni. Just waiting on Imperial now.

Panicmode1 · 11/01/2022 15:55

So sorry @KitnKaboodle, that is very tough. Hoping for better news from Cambridge for your DS. (And mine 😉)

bendmeoverbackwards · 11/01/2022 16:12

@kitnkaboodle I totally get how you feel. My dd was heartbroken last year as was I (for her). Unless you’ve been through the process it’s very hard to understand the emotion involved. Take your time to take it in, hugs to you (and to anyone else with not so good news today).

everythingcrossed · 11/01/2022 16:12

@SarahandQuack - yes, we've emailed the school who will get in touch. @Ginpostersyndrome - that would be the ideal outcome. In the meantime, I have a tearful 17yo stomping around the house oscillating between fury and self-doubt Sad.

Whatsinaname321 · 11/01/2022 16:24

I think this is a really good strategy. Focusing on the positives and what you do have. I imagine it is very difficult and raw at the moment though and takes a few days to process and fully embrace focusing on the offers made.

Whatsinaname321 · 11/01/2022 16:24

Sorry, that was in response to shimy but the quote failed.

SarahAndQuack · 11/01/2022 16:26

Hope you get a good response very soon. What a horrible stressful thing to happen!

Decafcoffee · 11/01/2022 16:27

Huge congrats to all your wonderful DCs on offers and getting this far.

We are waiting on C here but I’m suspecting it will be a no in two weeks. Interview went “well” according to dc but I can never tell with these things. DC already has an offer from Bristol so I’m preparing for this possibility.

Many congratulations to all those with offers and so gutted for those without. Some lovely stories of amazing young people. It will be our turn in a couple of weeks when we hear from C. I've been in denial over Christmas/New Year - I almost don't want to know.

Agree, it has been a long hard journey to today and it will take time to process before the cloud of that starts to lift (and it will). I wasn't meaning to sound as if they should forget all about it in one day and move on. Sorry if post came across like that.
Theamazingshrinkingwoman · 11/01/2022 16:51

I am also Terrifiedandworried - I'm crap at name changes

DD has just messaged to say that she will fill me in on her plan when she gets home and that she has renewed vigour. She's awesome.
