Thought I would start a new thread as its likely to fill up quick now.

So here we are after many months of applications, assessments and interviews. The wait is finally over for those with DC who have applied to Oxford. Those with Cambridge applicants have another 2 weeks to wait until the 25th Jan (bummer!!)

You have all been a lovely bunch to share this journey with and I wish your dc nothing but the BEST OF LUCK for tomorrow (and the 25th). Flowers

DS offered AA A for chemistry at St Catherine's we are thrilled as is he (Was up at 5 yesterday and today).

Notonetojudge · 11/01/2022 12:58

Btw, which is the college’where fun goes to die?’

SayYouDontMind · 11/01/2022 12:58

@Whatstheweatherlike I laughed at you having to hide in a cupboard! I remember your post on the day of the TSA and your DS thinking it had gone SO badly and really downhearted. My DS felt the same about the TSA but didn't get an interview for PPE. I'm so delighted for you and your DS. My DS is downstairs beavering away for his Maths mock on Thursday and he acknowledged that today would have been the day he would have heard - all those dates etched into the calendar - what a gruelling process it is but what a bloody fantastic sense of achievement it must feel like to get that offer - huge congratulations!! I hope you've come out of the cupboard now Grin

Whatsinaname321 · 11/01/2022 12:59

Congratulations to all those with offers.
Commiserations to those who didn’t get an offer but I do really feel that these are all very able and driven children and they will do well in whatever university they go to. I have been telling myself and my husband the same thing for weeks and I do truly believe it.

I am immeasurably proud of my son today. Despite getting his Oxford offer and wanting to tell everyone and celebrate, he told his friends in advance that he would be switching his phone off and not answering any questions about his application whichever way it went. Some of his friends are in mock exams today and he doesn’t want to cause any further upset to those who didn’t get an offer.

Juja · 11/01/2022 13:10

DD has an offer for MFL (deferred till 2023) for the second college she was interviewed at. She didn’t tell us for an hour and a half as she went out with friends! Nerves now recovering.

SandyBayley · 11/01/2022 13:10

@Notonetojudge - Merton 😂 - not my description but DS1's. I think it's a common description of the college by other colleges.!Take with a pinch of salt though as most students live their college and are rude about other ones.

SandyBayley · 11/01/2022 13:11

Good news @Juja - you were sceptical whether they'd offer a deferred place weren't you?

SirVixofVixHall · 11/01/2022 13:19

I agree that wherever students go they can have a wonderful education and experience. Dd isn’t competitive, so I am worried about that aspect of Oxford.
I am really proud of my dd today. She is at a local comprehensive, did her personal statement all on her own and had no interview prep at all, these were her first interviews for anything. She has had a truly terrible, very traumatic year, and was only 16 when she did her interviews. Whether she had an offer or not I was extremely proud that she got to interview stage. I am very happy for her that she has had an offer, of course, but getting an interview is a big achievement in itself.

Your ds sounds lovely. Huge congratulations to him.
Darbs76 · 11/01/2022 13:24

Congrats to those with offers and commiserations for those without. We were out on the first hurdle and now waiting to hear from Imperial and St Andrews (for maths).

Panicmode1 · 11/01/2022 13:33

DS has just whizzed in for lunch and said of the 6 who applied to Oxford at his (state grammar), 5 have offers. He's hoping the odds are similarly in his favour when he hears from Cambridge but there is a much higher number of them who applied to C than O.

Congrats to all the new offers since I last posted and big commiserations to those who didn't benefit from the dart board 😉 this year.

kitnkaboodle · 11/01/2022 13:44

DS1 rejected for engineering today. Sad and surprised because he thought his interviews (at 2 different colleges) went well, so just wants feedback now. This was his second year applying. Last year he didn't get an interview, so he was very proud to have got one this year. Kind of makes things a bit worse, but we had loads of talk before his decision to reapply regarding being prepared for all eventualities and being prepared for knock backs. Still hurts though ...
C'mon other rejectees... you must be lurking out there by now!
Now waiting for DS2's decision from Cambridge. Interesting times ...

SandyBayley · 11/01/2022 13:47

Sorry to hear that @kitnkaboodle - it takes a lot of gumption to reapply.

I don't know how you twins mums do it. My nerves were frazzled with DS1 in 2019 and DD this year. I'm a bit relieved DS2 is unlikely to be apply next year to be honest.

kitnkaboodle · 11/01/2022 13:52

Not twins! 2 years apart. DS1 had 2 gap years - the first for health reasons and the second for reapplication reasons!

goodbyestranger · 11/01/2022 13:54

I'm so sorry kitnkaboodle.

bendmeoverbackwards · 11/01/2022 13:55

Sorry to hear @kitnkaboodle, I hope he is ok. Someone told me last year when we were going through it that the admissions process is a bit of a mystery and no one really knows why some outstanding candidates are rejected.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 11/01/2022 14:00

@kitnkaboodle Sorry to hear about your DS hope he is holding up ok Flowers

My daughter just got a pro-forma message when she logged in saying that she never sat the exam Sad.

Theamazingshrinkingwoman · 11/01/2022 14:08

@bendmeoverbackwards
She's OK. Haven't seen her yet but I'm sure she will be her usual stoic self by the time I get home from work. She literally could not have done any more. Absolutely no interest in trying again next year. And still only an offer from her safety choice. Poor love...Still it will be nice to have a non Oxbridge prime minister, no? Wink

Juja · 11/01/2022 14:09

@SandyBayley

Good news *@Juja* - you were sceptical whether they'd offer a deferred place weren't you?
Yes we were skeptical and Somerville asked her at interview if she'd accept an offer for 2022 so we thought if she got any offer it would be for 2022. Now she just needs to get a visa to spend the year in France...

I do hope for all those who didn't receive an offer another door opens shortly...

SirVixofVixHall · 11/01/2022 14:12

How does it work with the two colleges who interviewed students, does only the one they apply to give an offer ?

Juja · 11/01/2022 14:13

@kitnkaboodle and @everythingcrossed - so sorry your DC haven't the results they were hoping for. Look after yourselves as well. Its a wearing process on the whole family...

everythingcrossed · 11/01/2022 14:19

Thanks - but just to clarify, she did sit the exam, it implies that the university has lost the transcript.

Balloonsandbaubles · 11/01/2022 14:19

yes, I think I’m beginning to realise that the answer will be no in two weeks. She did ok in her GCSEs but not by any means all 9s. Lots of people on this thread today being far calmer about things than me so I will try and take note over the next two weeks ( no promises )

DahliaMacNamara · 11/01/2022 14:20

@everythingcrossed

My daughter just got a pro-forma message when she logged in saying that she never sat the exam Sad.
Did she sit the exam, or was there a legitimate reason why she couldn't? Is this something she'll be following up?
