Thought I would start a new thread as its likely to fill up quick now.

So here we are after many months of applications, assessments and interviews. The wait is finally over for those with DC who have applied to Oxford. Those with Cambridge applicants have another 2 weeks to wait until the 25th Jan (bummer!!)

You have all been a lovely bunch to share this journey with and I wish your dc nothing but the BEST OF LUCK for tomorrow (and the 25th). Flowers

@Storminamu she is just so excited!! She says “they probably really liked me but didn’t have enough space so I got pooled” One of her friends applied to this college and also got offered a place!
C was always a long shot for her - we weren’t really expecting her to be offered a place so there are tears of joy here

Storminamu · 25/01/2022 15:14

That's great, Decaf!

quest1on2 · 25/01/2022 15:19

jani69 - you really are so lovely. Thankyou! I’ll be sure to pop over to the ‘another path’ thread later. Just have to drive somewhere now.

Fingers crossed to those still waiting. Why they don’t just get all the emails ready to go the night before, I’ll never know.

Juja · 25/01/2022 15:20

My heart goes out to all parents of DC waiting to hear from C. Why can't they just load the offers onto UCAS track as O does and then everyone knows by 10.30 in the morning.

It seems a particularly unpleasant form of torture.

To all those celebrating congratulations especially @PermanentTemporary your DH would have been so proud of your DS, as you will be - must be tough at times of joy and sadness.

To those who haven't made it through this particular narrow croquet hoop I hope however tender they are now that other options come forward that make then equally excited.

cosmiccat · 25/01/2022 15:38

@Genegenieee

DD has an offer for Maths!

From the college she interviewed at, standard offer for A levels and 1,1 offer for STEP (think also standard).

Extremely pleased for her, she was so excited. STEP is the final hurdle though.

I can't quite keep track in the last few hours of all the news but sympathies and best wishes to all the DC who didn't get the news they hoped for. As happy as DD is, she is a little deflated as her friends, so far at least, didn't get offers.

Excellent news to hear your DD @Genegenieee got an offer. My DD has hasn't had the detail of her offer but I am assuming this will follow by post.
cosmiccat · 25/01/2022 15:44

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango its a slow form of torture to make you wait so long. You have my full sympathies waiting until nearly 10 this morning tested my patience.

Panicmode an especially loud well done from me to your ds as a million years ago I was pooled there too.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 25/01/2022 16:05

Still nothing. It is worse than torture if its a no thats fine but FFS PLEASE WILL THEY JUST SEND THE BLOODY EMAIL!!

I swear to god I have aged ten years today and at nearly 45 I cannot afford those years Grin

Hang in there Tango, the drama surely can only lead to a positive outcome? REALLY hope so!

Panicmode1 · 25/01/2022 16:17

Oh @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango - I can't believe you are STILL waiting!! No news perhaps is good news?!

Thank you @PermanentTemporary - just hope he gets the grades now!!

petitebleu · 25/01/2022 16:27

Ds got the email at 9:30 but saved it to show us when he got home. He got a yes! I am so proud but so, so surprised.

ealingwestmum · 25/01/2022 16:31

Brilliant. Well worth the wait peritiebleu!

And to all the afternoon offers and rejections, I have read but not had chance to post, but so very well done to them all, whatever their outcome.

Storminamu · 25/01/2022 16:36

DC has heard and has an offer for a deferred place (!!). They were obviously right about the interviews going well.
Anyone else from Scotland with an offer? DC is the only one at their state school.
My minimal anxiety to date will now shift into a greater anxiety between now and whenever the exam results come out, as not getting the grades is a lot nastier than not getting an offer. But there's plenty of time for a Plan B as DC is taking a gap year.

AdmiralCain · 25/01/2022 16:41

Sod the kids! I'm in my late 30's waiting to hear if I've got into Cambridge!

heinztomatosoup · 25/01/2022 16:45

Finally...she's home and she's in!!!!

Storminamu · 25/01/2022 16:46

Well done Heinz' DD! Which subject?

heinztomatosoup · 25/01/2022 16:48

Thanks so much, it's for HSPS, are there any others in for that subject?

user1471600850 · 25/01/2022 16:50

Just posting to say we went through the same with our oldest and Cambridge but he went to Bristol and had an absolute ball and actually now realises that Cambridge would not have been the right place for him - it was the best thing that ever happened to him to not go! So there is a positive to everything xx

Huge congratulations to everyone with offers and the biggest commiserations to those who have been disappointed. Having been in the latter camp many moons ago, I know how much it is hurting tonight.

Thank you to everyone for your support and help and advice and humour. Have really appreciated everyone on this journey 😊

StElwicks · 25/01/2022 17:01

I only discovered this thread in the last few days. Sadly my son got a no today - and like all your wonderful kids is a really bright capable student. However he has come home and been so pragmatic and accepting of it. So I am kind of proud of him for that. Onwards and upwards are our watch words today.

Valleyofthedollymix · 25/01/2022 17:14

Yes DS has come home and promptly gone out to go drinking with his fellow redirected friends. The school did very well for Oxford but it's been utter carnage for Cambridge - less than 10% of those interviewed. He's very chipper and I think just relieved he knows one way or the other. Definitely will not be trying again.

Really proud of him.

Sorry I can't keep up but really pleased for all those who've got in. But weirdly I'm pleased too for those that haven't as they'll grow from this and have a ball elsewhere I'm sure. It's so nice hearing from people like @user1471600850 who confirm this.

kitnkaboodle · 25/01/2022 17:24

I want to hear @AdmiralCain's story - tell all! I love a mature student ...
