Mines having her second in a couple of weeks . She’ll be pleased to have the best protection before beginning of term .

Zandathepanda · 20/08/2021 11:31

Re: the sore arm. When Dd2, Dh and I had our 2nd, we had a competition to see who could raise our arm the highest Grin. Second day was the funniest. Calmed down after that.

bigTillyMint · 20/08/2021 11:46

DS says he feels fine - still not 24hrs since he had it though!

Benjispruce5 · 20/08/2021 14:09

DD is fine and arm less sore now at nearly 48hrs.Lucky thing.

Benjispruce5 · 20/08/2021 14:11

@Zandathepanda how is your younger DD getting on? Will she be able to have the vaccine?

Benjispruce5 · 20/08/2021 14:12

Oh is she DD2? Just re read. How is she doing?

ifonly4 · 20/08/2021 17:04

DD had her second dose at five weeks. She's doing year abroad next year and had to be double jabbed for country she's going to. She approached the doctor who referred her immediately (it could have waited a week or so). She had Pfizer, absolutely no side effects. Another friend got her second one at five weeks through a walk-in, again she was fine.

RampantIvy · 20/08/2021 17:45

Talking of vaccines, Hartpury University says unvaccinated students cannot live on-site.

icanbewhatiwant · 20/08/2021 20:18

@ifonly4 you probably saw my post above...ds1 went to a walk in last Sunday 2 days earlier than 8 weeks and they wouldn't do it. It's 14 miles away and he's been working all week so will wait until Sunday then try again.

Zandathepanda · 20/08/2021 20:28

Benji thankyou for thinking of Dd2. She’s now in group 6 so was double vaccinated a while back with no problems (at 16). Seizure activity is still not good, and she’s exhausted all the time. After year 13 she is having a year out and maybe specialist hospital stuff. Scary going back to school with no covid safeguards.

RampantIvy · 20/08/2021 22:14

I hope things improve for your DD2 @Zandathepanda. I often think of you both. It is so frustrating not being able to get clear answers Flowers

Benjispruce5 · 20/08/2021 22:14

Gosh @Zandathepanda must be so hard. Sounds like a good plan. I hope you find answers better treatments x

Zandathepanda · 20/08/2021 22:18

Thankyou x

We tried to get DD vaccinated 7 weeks post 1st jab at a pop up clinic last week, as she was visiting. They refused point blank even though we explained that she has chronic fatigue syndrome and will struggle to access the appointment that she has made closer to where she lives.

DS is about to start a job with a well-known high Street store and wasn't even asked his vaccination status, which surprised me. He is eligible for his 2nd next week, though has an appointment in home town which I will cancel now that he is living in uni city. I really don't want to tell him about the side effects that some of your DC have experienced, but must urge him to get his jab as far away from his next shift as possible.

bigTillyMint · 21/08/2021 10:46

@Zandathepanda, that sounds both hopeful and worrying - I hope the new term doesn’t cause further problems Flowers

@simbobs, I didn’t mention anything to DS (who felt a bit crappy yesterday afternoon but was fine to go round to a mates last night!) and I won’t to DD (who will imagine symptoms even if there aren’t any and is highly stressed about her MSc anyway

blametheparents · 24/08/2021 07:59

DS is heading back to university on Friday. It’s been lovely to have him home, but he wants to get back now, see his friends and do a bit of socialising before term starts.
Let’s hope 3rd year goes well 🤞🤞

Ragwort · 24/08/2021 19:48

DS offered a placement opportunity for his third year today Smile so pleased as it's been such a slog trying to find something, final details to be sorted but he is very happy, so are we.

minesawine · 24/08/2021 20:20

Congratulations to your DS Rags. That's great news. My DS finishes his summer internship on Friday and is looking forward to a couple of weeks doing nothing before heading back to Nottingham.

Ragwort · 24/08/2021 22:24

Thank you mine, I am glad your DS is looking forward to going back for his final year. I wonder if our DSs ever met? I guess with all the disruption since March 2020 there haven't been any proper lectures, shame that all the lovely facilities in the Department were never really used. My DS has a good circle of friends but none really from his course.

simbobs · 24/08/2021 22:30

Well done @Ragwort DS. Mine gave up and has only just got a "summer" job. I wish he had sought guidance from uni about a placement as I really don't think he is ready for his final year. There has been so much disruption and so little meaningful content.

bigTillyMint · 25/08/2021 11:21

That’s great @Ragwort!
Bit last min - there is so much competition/places not offering because of Covid. Did he have accommodation signed up to get out of?

My DS is looking at which way he should go in terms of jobs - he was thinking of law conversion, but he is a bit despondent about finding a Christmas internship.

Decorhate · 25/08/2021 16:31

Great news @Ragwort Hope it doesn’t cause too many admin issues being last minute? I’m not sure if Ds has sorted it out with Student Finance yet...

simbobs · 25/08/2021 16:58

I was wondering what happens with Student Finance. Do you have to cancel the application and then reapply as a placement /sandwich student, as the uni still gets paid some fees?

Decorhate · 25/08/2021 18:40

Yes you do. Ds changed it online but has had no confirmation yet so will get him to phone I think.

Ragwort · 25/08/2021 18:45

Thanks all, no accommodation booked at Uni but of course now trying to sort out accommodation for his job, which is much further away from home than Uni is (but seems cheaper), he is in contact with the Uni about fees ... apparently you still have to pay reduced fees for the year 'out' ..
Just how efficient he will be at sorting out all this admin we will find out. Hadn't applied for the maintenance loan fortunately. All very last minute and awkward timing of course .... DH & I were planning a few days away but that seems unlikely now.
