'flipping' organs!!

chelseamorning · 01/01/2010 19:29

Now you're probably thinking I'm off my rocker here but bear with me!

My DS is 3. Since I gave birth, I sometimes get a weird sensation in my chest/stomach which when I bend right over. The only way to describe it is that it feels like an organ or something is 'flipping'. It takes my breath away and I have to stand up carefully. Then I feel it 'flip' back into place. Usually there are no other after effects. Sometimes it leaves me a tiny bit tender in the area for a day or so.

Please, is there anyone else who has this sensation???!!!

THANK YOU! I was about to go have umbilical hernia surgery for this problem even though I didn't think that was the answer....my surgeon was clueless and basically about to do uneccesary surgery on me. Thank you to everybody who commented so I know I am not alone! I mean, I still don't know whats wrong but I am now confident I don't need surgery. Seems as if strengthening my core might do away with the problem. I will start there. Possibly see a myofascia release therapist as well.

It sounds familiar.
I got breast cancer. Finalized with tummy tuck.
A while later (almost a yr later)
I started to feel lower right rib move over lung.
As it felt like crackling.
Now it feels like folding up over liver on right side.
Could be lung itself, bone damage, muscle deteriorate, etc.

Honeycomb65 · 27/02/2021 03:30

Hi there, you definately are not off your rocker. I too get those crazy weird sensations, but on my right side. Whenever I bend down to put on my boots or have to pick something up, it's like I get stomach spasms and I can feel like an organ moving and flipping. It does take my breath away for a few moments and when I stand up, it's a killer, I have to walk around for a bit until it subsides, but I can actually feel something flipping right back and then my stomach is fine. My dr cannot made heads or tails. I had a hernia surgery last year, but had this sensation before the surgery and it's still there. Thinking it may be another hernia. Going for an ultrasound and MRI to see what is going on, it is crazy cuz at my job I do alot of bending and lifting. Good luck with your prognosis!! Feel better too!

mrsawhite · 09/03/2021 22:21

I have been having something like this for ages. On my left side. When I bend down. It's like my lower rib catches on something. It's so odd!

Kaigabby · 11/03/2021 11:17

Has anyone found out the cause??.I have been to so many doctors and they think i am crazy.

Chloe0603 · 12/03/2021 14:17

Hello!
I am not a mum..yet. I made an account just so I could join this discussion but I also have the same experience, it started about a year ago. Always on the left side though. I’ll bend a certain way and it feels as though something has flipped or twisted and the pain is unbearable and quite literally takes my breath away. The only relief is standing up and kind of stretching back gently whilst holding the area. I have not been to the doctor about it, but kind of relieved I’m not the only one experiencing this! But also sorry for you all as I understand how painful it can be 😣 I have decided to see a doctor about this ASAP! Fingers crossed I’ll get an answer! 🤞

FrankieFalcone · 20/03/2021 08:35

I’ve found my people!

I’ve had this a few times, most recently yesterday when I was sitting down but bending forward to put my left sock on! Left sided always in my case, like something has flipped, such a painful, weird feeling, takes your breath away!. It feels like whatever flipped is twice as heavy and is trying to break through the bottom of my ribs, that’s the only way I can describe it, or like there’s an octopus living in my rib cage trying squeeeeeze its way out!

I’ve just read through the whole read and there doesn’t seem to be a conclusion. There are a few suggestions of rib or muscle issue, so I’m going to read back on those posts, make notes Grin, abs google.

I’ve literally pushed it to the back of my mind when it’s happened, as in my case the pain only usually lasts for 1-2 minutes, once I stretch or move position it seems to ‘right’ itself and yesterday I was in a rush to get to work and didn’t have time for whatever it is’ nonsense! Grin and I do feel more at ease reading that so many of you have the same thing happen from time to time.

Off to try and do a bit more digging on this!

HeyHera · 23/03/2021 09:41

I realize I am a solid 11 years late to this, but this has been happening to me and I was honestly wondering whatever came from it for you? Im calling my gp tomorrow but worried Ill be stared at like Im a lil crazy ha.

missnevermind · 24/03/2021 19:17

I can't believe this thread is still here. I commented on it 11 years ago to say my Mum suffered with this. I have been suffering with it for the last 6/7 years. I finally found out last week that it is probably Slipped Rib Syndrome connected to my hypermobility.

FrankieFalcone · 24/03/2021 19:38

@missnevermind that’s mad! It’s amazing how long this thread has been going on for and the fact you posted 11 years ago! Shock

Actually gives me peace of mind that it can’t be anything too serious, even though during the moment it feels like it could be.

Interesting that yours might be slipped rib syndrome. I will Google it this time, see if it feels like this is what it could be in my case.

Pandyandy · 26/03/2021 21:08

This has happened me a few times now over the last couple of years. The latest this evening! It's like I squished an organ thru a hole and when I straightened up it came back out. I'm 54, c section 16 years ago, think bit have a bit of flab around my middle. Not obvious but it's not taught and strong!!I'm wondering if it's to do with the excess fat pushing being forced up against rib or something else and pushing it out. So, as there are very few definite answers, I'm wondering do most who have posted have a little extra flab? 🤔😊. It was a great comfort to find this forum. Thanks all

CptJVelez · 26/03/2021 22:06

I found this page 5 mts after I went through this. Is exactly where it happens to me. Left side under chest. Confused By any chance have you found out what it is? Thank You!

Pandyandy · 07/04/2021 17:17

Went to the doc, she said it was muscular. Didn't feel like it!!

mrsawhite · 13/04/2021 08:27

Does anybody find it a bit uncomfortable to lie on their front with this? It's so annoying. Every time I bend down. Something sort of pops. I noticed last night if I pushed my lowest rib I could make it pop too. Most odd

FlattestWhite · 13/04/2021 13:06

Could it be precordial catch? I used to get that a lot when I was younger, really really painful while it happens and I have to move carefully and not breathe deeply, but then everything goes back to normal in a couple of minutes and it's fine, with maybe a little lingering soreness.

Lauraashley321 · 15/04/2021 23:13

Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone ever was diagnosed with something specific other than what has been previous mentioned. I have the same symptoms, popping when engaging abs (putting on socks/shoes, bending and straightening, etc). I've had all medical images OHIP will cover and a exploratory laparoscopy surgery looking for a hernia. I have not been able to find an answer. This has been happening for three years since my c-section. And is now popping out regularly and my upper right quadrant is constantly sore. Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

MsQueenBee · 26/04/2021 08:17

OMG! I too feel like something “flips” and I feel pain and discomfort under my right rib until it “flips” back into place. This is the first time I see anyone else have this I have also had 2 c-sections and a appendectomy I thought it was something not done right after appendectomy. Thanks for your info! Glad I’m not alone!

Krishope · 04/05/2021 03:02

Same! Weird flipping, popping in and out...always shocks me and is so uncomfortable and always happens when I bend over. Happened this evening tying my shoe laces. So sad there is not a concrete answer but happy to not be alone. Some have said weight related but not for me. I am only 107 lbs. Thinking about going to dr or maybe trying the chiropractor suggestion first? Confused

Kaylahimsbitch · 11/05/2021 17:04

Hi I'm just wondering did you get to the bottom of this problem only the exact same thing is happening to me it's very painful and confusing and your right it does feel like somethings out of place somewhere at first I thought it was broken ribs but I'm not sure at all to ge fair.

Mykatiebaby00 · 18/05/2021 21:37

Finally! I've been looking for ANYTHING, ANYONE that has this same problem as me! I've been to different Dr's, specialists & whatnot, & they haven't been able to tell me what this is. Mostly they just brush it off & act like I'm crazy. I thought it was my liver at first because I have non-hereditary hemachromatosis, & that can cause iron to build up in your liver, but after some tests came back & exams, they told me my liver was fine (just a little fatty liver) & not enlarged. I've started to wonder if it's gallstones or something like that because I not only get that weird flipping, stuck feeling when I bend over (& it's painful), I get it if I stretch too far (like if I put my arms over my head & stretch as far as possible), & I've also been getting intermittent dull aching pain, & every once in a while a sharp pain. A little over a year ago I had 2 endoscopies (for my acid reflux/GERD) & they discovered an ulcer, but they didn't say anything about finding anything else wrong during the endoscopy. I had already been having this flippy pain for about a year before that. (I don't know if the endoscopy could have shown them what was wrong since it's my right upper quadrant, but I had hope maybe they'd say SOMETHING). After we treated the ulcer & it was gone, the pain & weird stretchy flippy feeling still persisted- so I know it wasn't due to that. So that's 1 thing ruled out. My daughter is 20 years old & this stretchy, flippy pain didn't start til 2 years ago, so I think I can rule out that it has to do with childbirth or anything child related. Also, I'm not overweight, at all. The only problem I have is that I get severely bloated from IBS & constipation issues from medication I take, so that does make my stomach distended quite a bit more often that I'd like. (Sorry for the graphic details, but who knows, it MAY help having all the facts in finally finding out what the heck is wrong with us!) I really hope someone finally gets a diagnosis! This isn't just an annoyance for me, it's painful. Like I said, I can't even stretch too far (like bending over to shave my legs in the shower!) & the flippy stuck feeling thing happens- and it's PAINFUL! I'm sorry for all going through this, but I am finally happy to not be the only one- make sense? Lol

Mykatiebaby00 · 18/05/2021 21:43

I've been to a few Dr's too, & they just brush me off & act like I'm nuts! It's very frustrating, especially because this is painful. You'd think they'd take that seriously.. I haven't had any luck finding out what this is yet.

KanandLalamama · 19/05/2021 21:52

Hello!!!
So finding this thread has given me some comfort, as I’ve searched the web high and low for a reasoning.

Monday I was at the gym, doing my thang. Finished up with a little bit of stretching. Put my hand behind my back and bent over trying to stretch my arms out and a hear a pop, and I stand up and look down and I can see the bulge in my left side under my rib cage and slowly felt it settle back down. It took my breathe away. Scared the living day light out of me.

I see my doc on Friday.

Just wanted to see in anyone got any answers? Or if it ever ended up being anything bad?
Cause I’m paranoid over here that it’s my spleen, or my liver. You know. Worst care scenario over here. Thanks, Anxiety!

TIA!!!

Mykatiebaby00 · 20/05/2021 09:35

Heya Kan,
If you get ANY answers be sure & tell us, because I've got NOTHING. I've told a few diff Dr's about my problem (a cpl of them Specialists) & none of them have been able to tell me what it is. Mostly, they just brush it off. I did have imaging done, a liver biopsy, & blood tests. Everything came back normal for my liver- just a little fatty liver. They weren't doing the tests because of my 'flippy-stuck' problem though, it was because of my non-hereditary hemachromatosis, so they weren't REALLY looking for the reason WHY I'm having this 'flippy-stuck' thing. I can only say that they say, it's for sure NOT my liver. (Btw, mine is on my RIGHT side. It seems most that ppl on here is on the left, but there are a few of us with it on the right.) My Hematologist/Oncologist did a physical examination of it & said it didn't feel like my liver either, & couldn't come up with a reason for it. She brushed me off afterwards, because she was longer concerned about my liver. I've started to wonder if it's my gallbladder or gallstones or something, but that wouldn't fit with everyone who has this that gets it on the LEFT side- at least I don't think 🤔. Lol. So if you do happen to find anything out, I'd truly like to know! And don't let them tell you it's from childbirth or something- it's been 20 years since I gave birth & mine only started 2 years ago- so I highly doubt it's that. Also, another popular thing I've read is that people have been told it may be from being overweight, possibly? That doesn't fit with me, at least I don't think so.. I can get bloated, but that's it. I'm about 5'4 1/2 & weigh between 128-132lbs, depending on how bloated I get. So being 40 years of age, I'm of course heavier than I was at 20, but then again, I was TINY at 20. Lol. So being overweight isn't an excuse for this 'flippy-stuck' stuck thing, either! (At least, I don't think it is.)

StlPat · 06/06/2021 08:20

YEAH…. I too am not loosing my marbles! I have the pain on my right side below the rib. It is a shocking pain when I bend over to tie a shoe, or pick something up. Takes your breath away…..but the popping sensation when you stand up is so bizarre. I too thought it had to be an organ or intestines that were folding when I bent, and then popping back in place when I stand up. Luckily it does not happen everytime I bend over. It is occasional, but continues to become more frequent. I have never been pregnant nor had a child, so I know mine is no way related to giving birth. This post started in 2010……and yet after 32 years, no one has said specifically what it is.

Mykatiebaby00 · 06/06/2021 19:25

StlPat,
Yes, you would think that after SO MANY years there would have been someone that would have gotten a definitive answer. Crazy! I was talking to my daughter about it, describing it in better detail, & she said that she had the same thing for about 2 years & it mysteriously went away. She was about 17 at the time. She said it felt like an organ or rib, but looked like a rib sticking out when she stood back up. I'd describe it exactly that way, except I'd say that's it has never felt like it was my actual rib that moved- it feels like SOMETHING moving & getting stuck up under my rib. But I can still see varying degrees of bulges when it happens- it depends on how 'bad' the flip is that time. If that makes sense? I just don't know what to think. Also, with my daughter having had it as well, it supports my theory on it not being related to weight because she has never had an extra ounce of fat. Lol. So far, the only thing I've been able to rule out is pregnancy, weight, & if my Dr is correct, it's not because my liver is enlarged..
