Welcome to our 36th healthy eating thread, where we will renew any healthy eating resolutions with all the viguor that the Christmas munchies require...

We chat, keep each other on track, and monitor our goals together- some on the thread have lost shed loads of weight, some are running ridiculous distances. Some, of course (like myself and Shiney, our dubious leader) have been a bit, er, remiss really. But that can all change with a New Year!

Come and introduce yourself, old and new, and let's get Mumsnet's famous Shiney Healthy Eating Thread kicked off for 2010...

Lizzylou · 30/12/2009 20:29

From January 1st, I will be channelling Sazz and getting lots of exercise.
Until then I will keep on with the arduous task of emptying the house of chocolate/cheese and cake.

FlamingoCrimbo · 30/12/2009 20:49

I am hoping to do my wii fit tonight, and do it every other night or so until I get a chance to start running again. I had planned to go out yesterday when DH was off work, but decided it would be more fun to go to A&E for three hours . Maybe Friday will be the day....

jaquelinehydeThePresents · 30/12/2009 20:53

Oooooooo new thread, new year, new thread Gin

I am useless on the diet front at the moment, but as of Thursday 7th January I shall be going for it.

Until then I want to know not of your fancy exercise and skillful food choice, but of booze, chocolate, crisps, and marathin sofa sessions.

As you were.

SazzlesOnASled · 30/12/2009 20:55

Ok Jac, tomorrow nights menu as follows:

One couple are bringing starter, one doing champagne sorbet, DH is doing lamb with pak choi, peas and eucalyptus foam [show off], another couple dessert (french, so think highly calorific tart!) and we are all bringing 2 regional cheeses per couple. Champagne being brought from France and by our friend who had a 40th this year. Oh and we are all making crackers (much nicer than shop bought)

I suspect New Years Day will be full of hangover carbs. Will that do?

Lizzylou · 30/12/2009 20:58

Sazz, sounds fab. Eucalyptus foam? How on earth do you make that?
WE are having fillet steak, just me and DH.
Oh and some Prosecco for me.

SazzlesOnASled · 30/12/2009 21:01

Not really sure tbh Lizzy . I just eat the stuff. I think he has had problems sourcing eucalyptus leaves though so i suspect it may be a mint foam. I am steering well clear as he has been known to be a tad volatile when in 'chef' mode

50ftlonglistofResolutions · 30/12/2009 21:05

Right I am coming back for the New Year as I am finally going to get my giant arse in gear and shift some lard. For now I am marking my place and stating my intentions and stuffing my face with crisps and doughnuts.

jaquelinehydeThePresents · 30/12/2009 21:06

Hmmm I think my turned into a Gin there. The computer must be trying to tell me something

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/12/2009 21:06

OK Jaq

Canapes courtesy of M&S so, lobster bisque, vegetable spring rolls, dim sung and crispy chicken skewers.

Homemade potted shrimps with melba toast.

Fondu, new potatoes and salad.

White chocolate and raspberry cheesecake

Cheese and biscuits.

Alcohol being served will be winter Pimms, G&T's, white and red wine, pudding wine, port and brandy.

jaquelinehydeThePresents · 30/12/2009 21:09

Ooh saz that sounds like a lovely couple of days food. I am eating mainly crisps, and left over quality streets, I have also managed to salvage some vodka for tomorrow evening and have joined the MN NYE online partay. Whoop whoop.

jaquelinehydeThePresents · 30/12/2009 21:11

Oooh Five another fab menu. I take it none of you want any of my crispo-choco menu then....suit yourselves.

bellavita · 30/12/2009 21:14

DH and I have just had the last of the xmas pudding (and brandy cream) another thing to knock off the list of stuff still to eat...

bellavita · 30/12/2009 21:16

Sazz, your menu sounds lovely as does Fanny's.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/12/2009 21:17

I love the sound of yours Sazz, very jealous of foam.

SazzlesOnASled · 30/12/2009 21:18

I should start a thread asking where to find eucalyptus leaves with less than 24hrs notice shouldn't I?

DidEinsteinsMum · 30/12/2009 21:33

DEM need to loose weight, working on the issues behind weight problems. Some days better then others. Today not a good day some total of food in take:
2ltr diet coke, 2 lots of painkiller, calcium supps, 8 biscuits, 2 handfuls of sweets(various), Ikea hotdog and strawberry tart and 3 marshmallows.
Have got into a nearly 10 yr old pair of jeans that is size 10 but hard to break it to everyone that they changed the sizes about 5 years ago so it is now equivalant to a size 9-8 in todays sizes. So flam you were probably as size 8 in your youth not a size 6.
I come and go from the thread, and post irractically with mad spellings. like or lump it i am who i am.

My top tip for dieting - sleep. make sure you get enough of it and at the right times.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/12/2009 21:35

DEM - that is exactly what my Dr said, it is very hard to lose weight when you are not getting enough sleep, being tired makes you hungry.

DidEinsteinsMum · 30/12/2009 21:49

Yeap but do they do anything to help increase the opportunity?

What are people doing weight loss wise? Are we ww/ll/lord ford, south beath mixture or is there a favourite amongst us.

I personally and heading back to the sleep diet and the s-diet and sort the back/knee physio routine with maybe a bit of other exercise through (eg walk aimlessly about in vague hope thing will eventually get done and move the pile of junk from here to there (a regular feature in the Einstein house).

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/12/2009 21:51

I too do the junk moving

I am WW I like the discipline although have been lax about it in December. I like going to the meetings and being weighed.

I love talking to you all.

YanknChristmasCrackers · 30/12/2009 21:55

Sazz, you could go to a zoo and mug the koalas perhaps?

By way of introduction for the new thread....

I'm Yank, I need to lose about 7 stone, and DH and I have a vow to sort ourselves healthwise by the time we're 35, giving me exactly 19 months from today. I'm doing WW online, enjoying a 36 point allowance due to exclusive breastfeeding.

Good news, the lady who teaches my pilates class has offered to watch DS on Thursday nights so DH can go to the gym and I can go to aqua aerobics. Will be starting pilates again next week too. I'd like to do another session of swimming so I'm exercising 3x a week, but trying to be careful as the SPD I had during my pregnancy seems to be flaring up when I walk a lot.

Tomorrow's evening menu:

-Grilled Fillet Steaks with mushrooms and onion rings
-Mashed potato with garlic butter
-Green Bean Casserole
-copious amounts of red wine

Happy New Year's Eve Eve...

SazzlesOnASled · 30/12/2009 21:58

Yank - try swimming with a leg float. You will find that you use your stomach muscles to turn your body, helping improve core strenth

jaquelinehydeThePresents · 30/12/2009 22:11

Oooh saz that's a really good tip, I may try that one myself.

I'm just about to watch Prison Break, The Final Break - the last ever episode. I'm confused over what has happened/is going to happen, but my God it is a great bloody programme. Anyone else watched it?
