...and I don't mean that you've "heard that someone at X school/street/place" has had it, I mean someone that you actually know really has had it/has got it.

I don't know anyone that has and wondered if thats the case for the majority of people on here or not?

3 children in DD2's class are being treated with Tamiflu and my best friend has been told over the phone by GP that she probably has it. However she did not feel too bed and has flown out on holiday today!!

Ds's friend has had it. (but no one else in their class caught it)

I am beginning to wonder if dd and I had it 6 weeks ago.
Dd came down very very suddenly with vomiting, diarroeha and a sharp sudden rise in temperature. She went on to develop a nasty sore throat and a cough. Her symptoms lasted roughly a week. The following week it was my turn with the exact same symptoms.
Dh and Ds avoided it. (whatever 'it' may have been, at the moment I am still thinking 'it' was a heavy cold / bout of normal flu.)

tattycoram · 18/07/2009 17:10

Yes, two teachers at ds's nursery, the children of a friend mine

Lockets, it does sound bad but it was a difficult decision. She felt fine and only spoke to her GP as she was querying something else and mentioned she had a sore throat and a slight temp. He then started treating her as if she had swine flu. She would not have gone to the GP with those symptoms alone.

The holiday has been booked for over a year and as she felt okay and her DH and DDs were fine she just felt she could not cancel the holiday on the off chance she has swineflu!

My friend who is a GP reckons that there are lots of people walking around with it who only have mild symptoms. In the school playground yesterday 3 mums had sore throats but none would dream of going to the doctor with a sore throat.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 18/07/2009 17:58

A friend of mine her DH and 2 sons have it.

2 kids at DD's school have it.

expatinscotland · 18/07/2009 18:11

We all had it. And that was back when they were still swabbing for it so it was definitely swine flu.

Hulababy · 18/07/2009 18:15

2 children from my class have been confirmed as SF cases, and at least 3-4 staff from school I work at have been off with similarly related illness in last fortnight. No longer swabbing, but it would apear to be SF.

I was off for a week the week before last. Initially thought it might be an ear infection but antib didn't help and GP not convinced. Thinks more likely to have been SF, albeit relatively mild.

Still not sure if Dh had it or not in June when we got home from New York. Was before any outbreaks in Sheffield and GP was very blaze. But following the newer flowcharts he would be flagged up as suspected.

poshwellies · 18/07/2009 18:18

How long does it go on for, that's what I want to know?-day 5 and I still feel like shit

MIAonline · 18/07/2009 18:18

Sorry, posted earlier today that I didn't know anyone, but have just found out a friend has got it.

gorionine · 18/07/2009 18:19

No one !....yet!

atlantis · 18/07/2009 18:33

Tdiddyisaman,

yes thanks, I am still waiting for it to clear up completely and I felt it really was trying to get to my chest, but tons of manuka honey, acidophilus and strepsils and i just need to get my energy back, lack of food (lost a stone ! YES) and being inactive makes it harder to bounce back ( itching to clean the house from top to toe )but it was not the horror story I was expecting.

I suppose where the media kept playing up the Tamiflu (I could not take it even if I wanted to ) within two days of symptoms will save you ploy and the scare stories in the media 'pandemic' millions to die and then it was those with health issues dying I just thought, right this is it then, but I do feel it's really like a very, very heavy cold that wants to sit on your lungs, if I could take antibiotics I would probably have been totally over it a couple of days ago.

I guess i'm glad I got it now, in case it does mutate, I might get a little more protection then from catching it again and I don't have the 'worry' of catching it anymore.

And my sister being the clown she is made me a red velvet cake in the shape of a pig and iced it with the words PIG SICK BUT WE STILL LOVE U !! I'm going to enjoy cutting into that.

Fennel · 18/07/2009 18:46

We know about 6 local households of parents and children where at least some of them definitely have it, some mildly and some badly. Several people have come down with it very soon after socialising with me, so I've had lots of contact with infections swine-flu-ites.

And there are confirmed cases in all the local schools, university and nurseries.

pigswithfludontfly · 18/07/2009 19:42

My ds allegedly - diagnosed over the phone by the GP - but I'm not sure as was better quite quickly.

One friend of ds had it confirmed with a swab before they stopped swabbing.

Know several other people with suspected cases.
