...and I don't mean that you've "heard that someone at X school/street/place" has had it, I mean someone that you actually know really has had it/has got it.

I don't know anyone that has and wondered if thats the case for the majority of people on here or not?

Yes I have it and so do several of my work friends.(all confirmed)

My DD's friend has it.(confirmed)

My DD may have had it in a very minor form.
(unconfirmed).

It's a very heavy cold, or really lite flu, I guess depending on the state of your health (me underlying health problems it hit me worse).

minko · 18/07/2009 12:22

A few children at DD's school, including one in her class. Tis DD's birthday party today and already had one drop out with symptoms.

Am resigned to it, but worried about our holiday in 2 weeks time...

sleepsforwimps · 18/07/2009 12:26

Nope, I don't know anyone who's had it.

PixiNanny · 18/07/2009 12:27

Me and my mb and one of my two charges definately had 'suspected mild cases' of Swine Flu, DB was also ill but was really stubborn about not letting it affect him too much.

All of us had all of the symptoms minus the fever by the end of it, but then none of us are usually susceptible to illness, we're the types of people who rarely get ill.

poshwellies · 18/07/2009 12:38

Mild suspected case here (just me atm)

All the symptoms apart from upset stomach and fever-gp said to stay in and ride it out.
Didn't want the tamiflu.

I'm still feeling rough, after 5 days of it but to me, it feels like a very very heavy cold along with tiredness (nothing like flu that completely floors you).

serenity · 18/07/2009 13:08

Two confirmed (swabbed) cases in DS2's class, two in DS1's.

We have all the symptoms (temp, headaches, cough, runny nose, feel like shit) so I'm about 90% sure we've got it - just coming out the other side atm. Didn't bother with GP.

Friend and her children have it too.

"i thought we werent counting people at school etc but reading thread looks like we are".

Sorry, what I meant in the OP is not to include cases where you hear people saying that someone at such and such a school, for example, has it ie. not your DCs school so not someone you "know" IYSWIM.

There seems to be lots of talk of it here and the local paper has reported on "confirmed" cases but nobody I actually know has it.

notnowbernard · 18/07/2009 13:14

I know one person who is recovering from it

AvadaKedavra · 18/07/2009 13:17

I know only one person irl treated as having SF ( can't say confirmed as they aren't confirming anyone now) and know several friends online have it, both confirmed and unconfirmed.

ProfessorPhantomPlopper · 18/07/2009 13:20

My parents and one family friend.

The only cases I've heard of down here so far.

bigchris · 18/07/2009 13:22

yes, 2 members of staff at the nursery dcs go to and 2 children

bigchris · 18/07/2009 13:22

all 4 of which I iknow seeing as the dcs go to nursery with them

donnie · 18/07/2009 13:23

my brother has had it and there are three confirmed cases at dd's school.

JodieO · 18/07/2009 13:24

A child from my daughter's class at school had it and there was another confirmed case there too. A friend had it as well as did a number of his work colleagues. My ds1 was swabbed for it but came back negative.

mankyscotslass · 18/07/2009 13:27

noone I have heard of has it here.

TDiddyIsaMan · 18/07/2009 13:28

DD just recovering. Many in her school have had it. She got given Tamiflu because of asthma and chest infection complications. She is on the mend now.

DS might have had it but not sure.

Best to get it sooner i think before it gets together with the ebola (spelling?) virus or the other one that has 100pc mortality rate. I am not a medical person so this is lay speak BTW.

MIAonline · 18/07/2009 13:29

Nope, not come across it yet.

LackaDAISYcal · 18/07/2009 13:31

Yes, a neighbours children have it and a boy in the year above my DS, who we know has it too. There are several children in our wider group of acquaintances who are being treated as though they have it. There are a few MNers who have had it as well.

I think now it's more a case of knowing someone with a suspected case, as they are no longer teating for it, but treating all flu like illnesses as swine flu, so it will increasingly become a case of "someone I know might have it/have had it".

I'm pretty sure that both my DD and I are coming down with it, but there doesn't seem any point in seeking medical help unless complications arise.

mumonthenet · 18/07/2009 13:49

tdiddy, I am surprised at you being so flippant and alarmist and illogical ...or was that a joke?

Oops sorry to digress.

No, no-one I know has had it (am not in UK but all family and friends are).

Interesting that so many kids have passed it around. Fortunately down here we broke up a month ago...could account for low infection rate in Portugal.

EachPeachPearMum · 18/07/2009 13:51

Yes- DH. He is very poorly

serenity · 18/07/2009 13:58

I should say that although we've (as far as I know) only had 4 confirmed cases, our school shut last tuesday, almost two weeks early. We had 126 children off sick on the Monday (out of around 400?) and the school was advised to close early on the Tuesday by either the DoH or the LEA (can't remember which, sorry) Too many sick teachers.

MaybeAfterBreakfast · 18/07/2009 13:58

Nope. Haven't even heard of any friends of friends who have it.

Likewise dh who works in an office with 1000s of people.

TDiddyIsaMan · 18/07/2009 13:59

mumonthenet - didn't mean to be alarmist, i was half joking about the possibility of the virus mutating.

DD scared us for a little bit but DCs are asthmatic but it never felt like she was on the edge. I think the media hype was the most scary part.

I don't think that there is any reason or need to get too scared as for most people it feels milder than flu. DS who we suspect had it felt bad for a few days with temperature but no worse than normal flu. And I think there is some validity to building up immunity. I think we are scaring ourselves a bit.

mumof2teenboys · 18/07/2009 13:59

Two of my sons friends have it, one of my friends sons is currently taking tamiflu, and an ex-colleague has it.

MissScarlett · 18/07/2009 14:00

We've got it now
