...and I don't mean that you've "heard that someone at X school/street/place" has had it, I mean someone that you actually know really has had it/has got it.

I don't know anyone that has and wondered if thats the case for the majority of people on here or not?

I don't know anyone who has had it.

yummymummy310 · 06/08/2009 16:34

why do you ask? We had it here my eldest got very poorly very quickly and ended up in A&E was diagnosed with a flu and flu induced wheeze, they thought it was SF as it affected her breathing so rapidly (within less than 24 hours of other symptoms) so quickly but she wasn't swabbed so can't be 100% sure. Me and my youngest got it I've been ill for last 2 weeks, really poorly couldn't get out of bed and got a secondary infection x

NoGlassSlipper · 06/08/2009 18:43

Had it,wasn't too awful. Cough was horrible though, went on and on. By the time I was precribed Tamiflu it was all nearly over and not worth taking, butleft me exhausted for a couple of weeks.

missingtheaction · 06/08/2009 18:53

my dd (15) had it - witnessed by me, was definitely flu. Temp 39.1, rampant sore throat down to her chest, aching all over, bunged up etc etc. DP and self had 'piglet sniffles' - suspicious lingering cold symptoms (very unusual for me) but didn't develop into flu.

2cats2many · 08/08/2009 20:05

Loads, but its been pretty mild and drama-free.

LoveBeingAMummy · 08/08/2009 21:17

Yep, in fact I thought it was all blown up till the last week or so

14 suspected cases at DDs school (boarding in Worcestershire) last week and some 30 suspected cases at DSs school (in Devon) in the last 3 days (DS has just taken to his bed with a high temperature and sore throat & headache) Both schools are not testing (DD's school was closed during the initial outbreak earlier in the year and all the pupils were sent home for 10 days - but are taking a far more relaxed view now)

It seems that at both schools the symptoms are reasonably mild and short lasting and the children affected are recovering quite quickly (apart from 1 or 2 at DD's school who have asthma).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/09/2009 12:31

Possibly dd. She has consistent symptoms. Been going on since wednesday. Has been hellish on her asthma.

When you say that they symptoms at the schools were in general mildish and short lasting, what sort of time scale/symptom level are you talking? There have been loads of kids with similar symptoms to dd but after 2 days all they've been left with is a nasty cough. school told me it was just a bad cold, but I know 8 or 9 kids in dds class alone have been off with it (maybe more, but I've not been there to find out) school were remarkably unconcerned on the face of it.

Drayford · 28/09/2009 00:33

Seems to be from talking to parents of the affected children that the symptoms are typical of normal flu (high temp, aches & pains, headache etc) but with an unpleasant cough as well. The main symptoms seem to subside after a couple of days but the cough lingers for a few more days.

colditz · 28/09/2009 00:34

i think I have had it, one of my friends and two of her children.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/09/2009 08:24

Thanks Drayford.

LoveBeingAMummy · 28/09/2009 08:30

DD was issued with a code to get the drugs however i am certain she did not have that and NHS Direct agreed with me (had to call them as well accoerding to the hotline)

Other than that I was have to say no, however if I was still at work when have answered yes as around half a dozen there have had it.

Drayford · 28/09/2009 22:46

DS now with temp of 38.75 and feeling very poorly with nasty cough and I am feeling quite shitty too - aches and pains & sore throat. Off to bed for me.....after a hot toddy and after watching skyplused Masterchef!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/09/2009 07:47

oh dear I hope you both feel better soon.

Jumente · 30/09/2009 17:30

Yes, two mums at school but interestingly not their children...

I have been exhausted the last couple of days and now feel flushed and coldy. Had a normal 'cold' about 10 days ago so possibly SF I suppose...I was talking to one of the mums the other day on her third day, she still came to pick up her dc, which I thought was a bit stupid really.

'Oh don't come too close' just makes you feel rude if you actually stay a metre away doesn't it. She ahs someone else to look after her kids when she is ill.

baconsandwich · 30/09/2009 22:43

Both my kids ill with it now. One on day 6, other just gone down with it today. It is horrible - never seen them so ill.

Drayford · 02/10/2009 01:32

So yes -- think I had/have SF, but not as bad as flu I had a few years ago. Nasty headache, sore throat and high temp, bit of a cough & aching limbs and lack of strength but was able to get up out of bed and work a bit (on our farm and in our holiday cottages the animals (& tourists) don't take illness into account LOL!) Last time I had flu I couldn't get out of bed for about 4 days and lost a stone in weight!

Feeling a million times better this PM (after only 2 days) & DS has recovered very quickly too. We didn't bother with tamiflu as DD took it as a prophylactic (sp?) earlier this year and it made her feel really poorly.

Many of DS's schoolmates have also come down with these symptoms, but as nobody is particularly bothered with testing (I mean parents not health professionals) so we'll never know if it is or was SF or just another virus!!!!

I'm sure that the above symptoms would be a problem if you or DC are immuno comprimised or suffer from Asthma though, so in those circumstances Tamiflu or Relenza may be worth taking.

Ripeberry · 03/10/2009 18:12

My best friend's daughter had it two weeks ago. Off school for over a week. The school were not that bothered, a few days later a teacher was taken home as they became suddenly ill and a few others have it.
But no-one is bothered
