For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Thanks! I was actually offered both jobs and accepted one. Now I need a nursery, a car and a place to live...

Mayor, making your own tortillas is very impressive!

juice
baked beans
peas
chutney (does it count? I ate a lot)
tomatoes
onions & mushrooms

Long walk

It was a bit worrying, OB, but now I have googled it I really don't think it is that though I will keep an eye on it. I'm sure it's bog standard fairyness.

I lost dh for hours and hours last time we went to Glastonbury and funnily enough I found him in the Glade bit. Annoyingly, he hadn't really noticed that he'd lost me and was dancing under a tree in a weird shirt with my green stripey sun hat flapping round his ears attractively. I nearly wondered why I bothered looking.

I have just eaten some cheesecake from the local deli. The top was crusted with poppy seeds which sounds a bit peculiar but it was very nice. I'd still choose raspberry out of choice though.

womblingalong · 15/07/2009 22:05

Right, mayor, could you tell me a little more because I am making (watercress) mayonnaise for the first time tomorrow because people are coming over.

I have a recipe in front of me and I would like to check some details with you.

  1. Do you beat the egg yolks and then gradually add the oil, all the while beating with a balloon whisk?
  1. If you do anything differently, please tell me what.

Bollocks. I will need to whizz the watercress in the food procesor. Bollocks

pointydog · 15/07/2009 22:21

knots, my kitchen is so crap it's really starting to annoy me big time. But I like the thought of being well-equipped.

pointydog · 15/07/2009 22:23

bunns, what sort of job do you have? You move fast.

I don't fancy poppy seeds on cheesecake. I think a larger-sized crunch would be better.

moliere, I have just agreed to having two of dd2's friends over on friday night. I hates sleepovers, I hates them. dh is buggering off out .

pointydog · 15/07/2009 22:24

and, mayor, when exactly are you dashing back? I will worry about the mayo you know

FrayedKnot · 15/07/2009 22:29

Oh god, sleepovers fill me with dread.
Last week I had DS + friend for two hours and int aht time they shredded me to a mere whisper of my usual self.

They wouldn;t even come and sit at the table for tea, but instead spent about 20 minutes fighting / bouncing / shrieking on the stairs about who would wash their hands where.

I would like news of Stuffit, I hope she is OK. I wonder if she is coming back to the UK over the summer?

pointydog · 15/07/2009 22:31

I have had the presence of mind to tell dd2 her firnds can come after tea this time, at 7pm.

From now on, we either have friends for tea or for a sleepover but not both.

SuperBunny · 15/07/2009 22:53

It's in a special school, pointy. Your tea OR sleepover plan sounds sensible. I am taking notes.

FrayedKnot · 15/07/2009 22:57

SB can we know roughly where abouts or do you not want to say?

I'm so pleased for you. It sounds like you will be sorted out really soon.

Where is TooT?

Gosh just realized the time, why are we not all in bed?

pointydog · 15/07/2009 22:58

oo interesting

SuperBunny · 15/07/2009 23:23

Dorset, FK. Nr a beach famed for its blue rinse brigade.

Guadalupe · 15/07/2009 23:25

I can't believe you are really here. It's a strange thought imagining you so close when I'm not sure how I imagined you far away. Not that that makes sense.

SuperBunny · 15/07/2009 23:27

Guad, it is really weird being here. And on MN especially, knowing you are here at the same time as me. Makes you all a bit more real iykwim.

I realise my last post was rather unPC so I apologise.

pointydog · 16/07/2009 09:55

Just checkign in to see if mayor has left mayo advice. I will be cleaning the bathroom and then starting to make it.

TigerFeet · 16/07/2009 10:36

morning

bacon butty
twix

not going well so far

Best of British with the mayonnaise pointy. You are a braver woman than I mix the watercress with some Hellmans

pointydog · 16/07/2009 12:11

help. The mayonnaise is a fucking disaster. Don't know what to do.

mayor, will you please come back now

off to google

MayorNaze · 16/07/2009 12:12

what good timing!!

did you not whick it enough???

pointydog · 16/07/2009 12:15

maytor!

Have just googled delia and found a rescue remedy.

I was adding the oil and incorporating it and so I carried on adding the oil in a very slow drizzel but it has not thickened. I think I should have waited until that first bit of oil made it thick, is that right?

I have a liquid bowlful. And I used the blighted food processor.

delia says I can put a yolk into another bowl and start whisking all over again (but fo it properly) and it will work. What do you think?

pointydog · 16/07/2009 12:15

I mean, it's not curdled, it's just thin gruel consistency.

pointydog · 16/07/2009 12:16

I've added nearly all thw oil.

Do I need to start all oiver again?

pointydog · 16/07/2009 12:16
MayorNaze · 16/07/2009 12:17

how many eggs/yolk did you start with? i owuld start again tbh, and experiment with the curdled bit another time.

literally add the oil drop by drop to start off with, it will seem like a faff at the time but should thicken up pretty quick? what kind of oil are you using, olive or sunflower?

it will be fine. if i can do it anyone can

MayorNaze · 16/07/2009 12:19

oh, if supplies are short then i guess you oculd pour the gruelly stuff into another egg yopk. but teensy little drops and whisk like the clapper all the time.

def should thicken up pretty wuick, then you can ber a little more liberal.

sorry, 'puter on a go-slow today
