For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

2 egg yolks.

my recipe said 100ml olive oil ( I used extra virgin, all I have) and 200ml groundnut or vegetable (I used vegetable, all I have)

Do you think I will have more control if I use the hand whisk?

Do I just do it all again but wait and wait until that first bit of oil makes it thick? Is that the trick?

MayorNaze · 16/07/2009 12:20

and my typing, clearly

pointydog · 16/07/2009 12:20

no I have enough ingredients to start it all over again.

I don't have a curdle, I have a big bowl of thin liquid, like a vinagretet dressing

pointydog · 16/07/2009 12:21

I might do it on a bowl with my electric hand whisk. I don't want rsi

MayorNaze · 16/07/2009 12:22

i owuld use the handwhisk, its not like meringues, you wil not become paralysed from the elbow downwards it really does thicken up quite quickly, but you do need to b v stingy initially.

i always just use one type of oil, you must be making extra poncey mayo

up to you - i think if you have spare ingredients, i would start again really.

tomorrow i will hold a master class in tortillas

pointydog · 16/07/2009 12:22

I am waiting for your final word, mayor, before I start this business again

pointydog · 16/07/2009 12:23

whne you say handwhisk, do you mean balloon whisk? That is the ont sort of handwhisk I have. Will that do?

pointydog · 16/07/2009 12:24

this is a greg wallace recipe, I think, from good food. Hence a bit poncey

pointydog · 16/07/2009 12:25

mayor, youe slow computer is most annoying. I have eggs waiting

MayorNaze · 16/07/2009 12:25

hand whisk/ballooon whisk - tomayto tomahtoe - think they are one and the same. do you have a little whisk or is it a whopper? i use a little one but i guess you could use a fork maybe? if you're using a corking great whisk on a little puddle of oil and yolk i'm not sure how effective it would be IYSWIM?

MayorNaze · 16/07/2009 12:26

breathe. calm. it will take you 5-10 mins. really.

pointydog · 16/07/2009 12:26

lolol

right. am off to tackle

MayorNaze · 16/07/2009 12:28

good luck. i will be here for a little while longer if it all goes tits up.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 16/07/2009 13:01

lol at mayo making.

I shouldn't laugh really as that would be me

pointydog · 16/07/2009 13:14

kin ell.

How long did that take me? Over 40 mins?

I had The Fear and was beating like a lunatic. I still never got to that stiff and lumpy stage that both greg and delia speak of. I was beating it so much it didn't have a chance to go lumpy.

That was 40 mins exercise for today.

It looks alright though. In firdge.

And I have had to use and wash food processor twice due to dratted watercress.

pointydog · 16/07/2009 13:15

thnak you mayor.

Does yours go stiff and lumpy? Or just smooth and ever so gradulaly thickening?

TigerFeet · 16/07/2009 13:32

I love that MayorNaze is our mayonnaise guru.

MayorNaze · 16/07/2009 13:47

so its alright then? a bit at 40 minutes, but hey, thats your 30 for today and a little bit in hand...seriously takes me 5-10 though.

mine def smooth and silky not heard of lumps? mine was rick stein recipe though so perhaps he doesn't DO lumps..

anyway...
banana
apricots
kiwi
passion fruit
cucumber
apple

to lower the tone slightly, have just been weeding and discovered that White Poo is not a thing of 70's legend, it is in fact alive and well and in my rockery

damn Cat. clearly him and 6 of his closest friends have no horticultural appreciation [agry]

pointydog · 16/07/2009 14:19

I thought white poo was a dog thing?

And your name should have been a give-away really, mayor.

I think I went from cock-sure to dread-and-doom, hence 40 minutes.

MayorNaze · 16/07/2009 14:28

a happy name coincidence, no?

the evidence would point to Cat. mainly because we do not have a dog. ah well...feel at least i have achieved something today by pulling out all the bindweedy stuff. it will be back just as thick, probably is already but c'est la vie.

so will you be making mayonnaise again, pointy? calm and cool is the way to go. did not know that making ones own mayonnaise was an unusual thing...is it up there with cupcakes and bunting do we think?!

pointydog · 16/07/2009 14:33

oh yeah, deff up there with bunting, far more unusual than fairy cakes.

I'll make it again at some point but no other pointy like mayonnaise and I wouldn't just make it for me.

But I feel confident about it now. You have helped me to learn and grow, mayor, learn and grow

MayorNaze · 16/07/2009 14:40

so i have achieved 2 things today!

go well, my child. go well

pointydog · 16/07/2009 16:46

my fuh n vuh intake is lousy.

sultanas
apple

blinkin eck. I will have another apple soon. Terrible.

MayorNaze · 16/07/2009 18:06

cabernet sauvignon grapes
potato skins

oh who am i kidding?!

AND am going to have a f*k off big burger and chips later when dh gets in. but it will be a vegi burger.and it will have salad in it

mayonnaise superiority aside, this afternoon has been a bit of a shitter. anyone who would like 3 children is welcome to them. and dd1s teacher is clearly on a mission to get on my last nerve. shes been bumped to the bottom of the present list i can tell you!!!

BUT i have farmed dd2 out to MIL tomorrow so can take my cousins to cribbs causeway IN PEACE AND QUIET!!! AND they are much too old and cool to need escorting round, so if anyone sees a slightly dazed, slightly rumpled, slightly hippychick in waterstones at some point tomorrow - come say hi

MayorNaze · 16/07/2009 18:08

hows the watercress pointers? did you smile graciously and say "oh yes, i make this all the time dontcha know?"
