For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Feather, if you don't come back I shall have to come and collect you [stern] but with hugs

Guadalupe · 04/02/2009 09:47

It's less about being teachers pet, lemur, and more about being a little, competetive.

Guadalupe · 04/02/2009 09:55

Yes, protein very good for lunch. I don't ant cake in the afternoon as much if I avoid bread/crackers at lunch.

I am going to get fish on the market, maybe smoked haddock to have with a poached egg, or salmon and salad. Bit cold for salad though, might see what veg looks nice.

FairLadyRantALot · 04/02/2009 11:48

ahundredtimes · 04/02/2009 12:50

Yes, we have gone a bit off-message haven't we?

1 banana
2 glasses of orange juice.

Hmm. See? Really off message. And no lunch on the horizon either.

I'm going to go to health food shop and buy lots of stuff for making good muesli. They have wonderful range of things in there and I love muesli. Does anyone have good suggestions for deliciousness please, it'd better contain dried fruit I think. I had a pre-made apple and cinnamon one from there once.

Have walked 1 mile through snow.

TWF I think crying not necessary. Franny is right, we should concentrate of good and healthy eating for a bit, will make us all feel better. Also, are you American? I wonder because you said Mom earlier.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/02/2009 12:51

fairlady - do you remember which thread you posted your moorish chickpea recipe on? I would like to give it a try. Thanks xxx

stuffitllama · 04/02/2009 13:05

100 flaxseeds add a nice nutty flavour and they are so good for the brain as you probably know
fairlady you are Good At Beans

Boco · 04/02/2009 13:08

I only found out recently that people from around Birmingham say 'Mom' too. Maybe TWF is from Birmingham?

tomatoes
orange juice
cucumber, but not enough to mention.

ahundredtimes · 04/02/2009 13:12

No, that's 'Maum'. I know.

Thanks for flaxseeds, will add them to list.

ahundredtimes · 04/02/2009 13:14

Oh no you are right! In that What was Lost book they said Mom, I wondered whether they had printed it for american market. Learn something new everyday. Need the flaxseeds, clearly.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/02/2009 13:19

I quite like the kick up the arse talking to we got. It has re-focused my efforts.

pollycazalet · 04/02/2009 13:22

RL has got in the way the last day or two and this thread resembles the porridge in the Magic Porridge Pot story.

The good stuff:

Tomatoes
Kidney beans
Onions ? do they count?
Potatoes
Courgettes
Carrots
Red peppers
Orange juice

Have just eaten carrot, lentil and sweet potato soup for lunch.

Must try harder:
Am failing miserably at breakfast ? I need to get up earlier to grate and chop. I seem to plateau at about 7 portions so I need a couple first thing to make 10.

Exercise ? other than walking and vigorous snowball fights. I need to start running bit I can?t bear to.

FrannyandZooey · 04/02/2009 13:31

afternoon

well i felt we were floundering a bit
i know we all want to eat healthily or we wouldn't be here

i think starting different threads specifically for chat - or support - is a good idea. people seem to be in need of a lot of support lately and i think they should be able to get it. it isn't always the best place, on this thread, i think - separate threads seem sensible. nobody needs to feel upset about it.

there. that was me being the captain of the ship steering us all back on course, out of stormy seas. did you like it? i had a special hat on and everything.

and guad wait till i get to the shops. just you wait

if anyone has fruit or veg related dilemmas please bring them to us

i want to know: is bulgar wheat actually wheat?

polly yes you must eat some for breakfast. it's almost impossible otherwise

pollycazalet · 04/02/2009 13:37

Have bought some frozen berries - will try them tomorrow.

I like toasted nuts and seeds in muesli 100 (this is clearly why my breakfasts go wrong - am too ambitious).

Franny have you tried the Pure Potion cream yet?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/02/2009 13:47

frozen berries are good to put in porridge, they cool it down quickly when you're in a rush

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/02/2009 13:50

here you go Franny. It looks like bulgar is a mix. I bloody love wikipedia

stuffitllama · 04/02/2009 13:52

also smashed up brazil nuts as they are better for you than almost any other nut I think

my prep involves slightly less than polly's ie putting them in a plastic bag and smashing with a rolling pin, but am not doing it at the moment

my muesli substitute is crumble a couple of times a week, which is where all the nuts and seeds go

i hope we are allowed to discuss nuts although they don't count

100 I don't think I could bear cinnamon in muesli

I suppose i see 10/10 as making me eat things I would normally not.. that is, I wouldn't normally have eaten that really tasteless orange just now but I did because of 10/10 ..bootcamp is even worse/better

TooTicky · 04/02/2009 13:53

Oh Pink! Where is Pink? You precious darling!! [proud]
You have made me

stuffitllama · 04/02/2009 13:53

whatwhatwhat?

mollyroger · 04/02/2009 13:54

lentils, carrots, onions, flaxseeds (sMUGLY CONSUMED WITH PORRIDGE, as it my habit...) apple, satusma, blueberries, cranberry juice. Oh and with dinner,(kidney beans, tomatoes and mushrooms) that will be an easy 10. No excercise as I slipped and banged cocxyx this morning and it is thrumming and belumped.

TooTicky · 04/02/2009 13:55

I have been brave. I have a glass fish to prove it
