For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

here is the recipe for moorish chickpeas ( I have not tried this myself...yet...but am plannign to do so the next few days, as it states you can serve it hot and cold and therefore might make an ideal packed lunch for me

Moorish chickpeas

-1 large onion, chopped
-2 garlic cloves, crushed
-1 green pepper, deseeded and sliced
-2x 397g/14oz cans chickpeas, drained
-397g/14oz can chopped tomatoes
-sa;t and freshly ground pepper
-1 tsp. each ground cumin, dried oregano and cayenne pepper
-198g/7oz can sweetcorn, drained

Place all the ingredients , except the sweetcorn, in a large saucepan. Bring to the boil, cover and simmer for 20minutes. Season to taste and stir in the sweetcorn just before serving. Delicious hot or cold!

Freezer friendly

TinySparklyWhiteFeather · 04/02/2009 14:56

Phone rang toot.......

just had enough you see.

I do eat 5 - 10 portions a day and exercise daily and it has done me what good?

Some days I can barely move. I pull myself up and down the stairs with the banister in the morning and it isn't fair. It will improve, but living in the now is crap. Just crap.

Yes, I am so tired and over emotional and care deeply about offending people.

Have just had it.

FairLadyRantALot · 04/02/2009 14:57

lol litttlerach...we must have crossposted...

oh and you can add all sorts really....

littlerach · 04/02/2009 14:58

No mean feat atm! You are lovely xx

OsmosisBanana · 04/02/2009 15:39

Hello! Let me boast for a bit about how industrious I have been as DH seems to think it as all shit and I am going a wee bit mental.

I am supposed to be on holiday post exams (which I didn't get any enquiries about from twat features) so I have done 2 coats of white on all our bottom floor ceilings again and on the walls, and done their colour paint too.

Then at the weekend I went and hired a drum sander and edger. This was going well (although causing the whole house to resemble a scene from the Mummy Returns)

until Sat morning when I woke up with a worse version of the lurgy I had the day before... DH says 'oh, is this you ill then? Guess you'll be fucking the work off and leaving it to me?'

Anyway, got up, made a start, the big sander exploded destroying 2 floorboards. So I had to finish the job with the edging sander - the whole kitchen, hallway and stairs that is. If anyone has ever used an edger, you will understand the mammoth undertaking this was.

Then I spent monday priming and varnishing.

Then yesterday I cleaned the entire house top to bottom to rid the dust.

AND - I convinced my tutor to let me swap onto a harder but better degree which will alllow me to be a paediatric dietician in a hospital etc.

Has there been any recognition / sympathy / adoring wonderment from DH?

No, there hasn't. Now, know he's in a bad place what with being responsible for losing us £20k n all and having to work 7 days a week but I only did the work as the kitchen arrives in 10 days, and I'm pretty sure he'd rather not have to fit the kitchen as well as do all the prep work.

And breathe.

I am going to go and buy myself something with the proceeds of one of his books I am selling on Amazon which happens to be worth £126 despite having an RRP of £8.50. He needn't know right? He has forgotten it exists, it is not an old / antique or nuffink, just the subject matter is quite.... particular

How is everyone? The thread is so long I can't catch up. I saw something about silver wellies and banners but my brain is full of sawdust.

TooTicky · 04/02/2009 15:43

OB, you deserve many medals. Listen, we have two threads now, link is just down a couple of posts...one for veg and one for hugs, sort of.
Oh, somebody will explain better as I have to go and pick up dd1.....i'm not here, i'm halfway to the car...

Good to see ya though

pinkspottywellies · 04/02/2009 15:56

Hi OsBa good to see you New degree sounds good too. Did you see new link to chatter thread? Franny told us off for going off topic too much and not listing, so we're on bootcamp and have to gossip elsewhere

You may list and ask vegger questions here.

littlerach · 04/02/2009 16:22

Hey ob, nice ot see you.

And well done for all thta hard work

Guadalupe · 04/02/2009 16:32

OB - A peadiatric dietician. That sounds good! You will hopefully be better than my one who does seem a bit stupid tbh. She has been helpful for some things but she didn't know what their infant allergy formula was made from and when I asked about how easily the body absorbs calcium from certain foods she just looked blank. .

Franny will be able to get proper advice from the thread then, not just wild ramblings from her weird friends who are clearly just intent on depriving her unnecessarily of cheese.

I have walked MILES and bought piles of fruit. I bumped into a friend and we made smoked haddock and poached egg with asparagus. Mmmm, it was lovely.

I will have dinner and then

FairLadyRantALot · 04/02/2009 16:43

add a banana and [gasp] walk to todays list....wohoo

and osmosis...I am impressed
