For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I had a pear today

Still really want chocolate as well though!

TooTicky · 20/01/2009 20:31

WWell that's a start...

twoluvlykids · 20/01/2009 20:32

FrannyandZooey - you know this 10 a day - my DS said the 10 doesn't have to be all fruit and veg.

You can include in it - vitamins, minerals, whole grains (for example brown rice and pasta), water, and other things I can't remember!

Is that the case?

I ask you, because you've done one of these thread before, I think.

littlerach · 20/01/2009 20:33

How did it go todat Toot/

have FBed you also.

My wisdom tooth is making me .
It has burst a bit of my gum and I have a loose bit
I really sympathise with teething babies, it is agony. I keep biting on it.

TooTicky · 20/01/2009 20:34

Hmm, as Franny's unofficial secretary, I'd say that for the purposes of this thread it is 10 fruit/veg

littlerach · 20/01/2009 20:34

Twoluv, just don't mention seeds or nuts. fran will ocmbust

TooTicky · 20/01/2009 20:35

Hello LR

I get wisdom teeth problems too
Sympathies

I FBed you just two minutes ago

Meeting was okay., I felt assessed but not judged.

TooTicky · 20/01/2009 20:37

Do you have clove oil LR?

OsmosisBanana · 20/01/2009 20:38

lol, I think I've seen Franny round here before

had my nutrition exam today, t'was much harder than the 2 mocks she gave us. The swine.

I have been veggie for 15 days. I would like a steak now please as a prize, or just a badge.

DH knocked over someone's motorbike today.... Another £350 down the shitter. And we still haven't won the lottery which is starting to really annoy me. However, we got approved (gawd knows how) for finance for our kitchen so I can now stop making voodoo dolls of what I think our NYE burglars looks like. Yay! Only another 4 more weeks of doing all my dishes in the upstairs loo sink.

Hope you're all well...

littlerach · 20/01/2009 20:41

Hey OB, nice ot see you.

TooT, i read that as love oil and was kind of worried...but no, I don't have clove oil either!! is it good fo rteeth?
Dh told me to use anbesol for ulcers, but I odn't want to numb my gum as then I'll bite through it.
I thiought wisdom tooth were a teenage, early 20's type thing. this has been going on for years.

TooTicky · 20/01/2009 20:44

Hey OB
Have a big kiss.

LR - clove oil numbs things nicel;y. Try not to get it on your tongue though.

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2009 20:44

twoluv, we are just trying to eat 10 fruits and vegetables per day
i think what your ds is talking about is something else - sorry i can't help you
the general government advice is to eat 5 fruit and veg portions a day
but if you look into it at all it seems that is nowhere near enough for optimal health
in some countries they recommend 13! we are just focusing on f+v and they are the only things that count on this thread - not the same as what your ds has heard of (presumably at school?)

TooTicky · 20/01/2009 20:44

clove oil doesn't actually make things numb, but does stop it hurting for a bit in an invigorating kind of way

TooTicky · 20/01/2009 20:45

Franny, do I get the job as your secretary? Or do I blether too much?

pinkspottywellies · 20/01/2009 20:45

LR I used clove oil on my wisdom tooth at xmas and it does work - although it's vile!

TWF I'm here!! Did you want me?

It's Tuesday - ironing night I've just been to work and had my last session with a lad who I've been working with for about 9 months. Phew

TooT Hope the school meeting went ok. Have you told us?

I am eating dinner my third meal today.

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2009 20:47

rach i have had the same thing
this is absolutely not advised from a tooth health point of view, but just to stop the pain i used to let half a junior disprol dissolve on the sore place
is it infected or just tender?

Monkeytrousers · 20/01/2009 20:47

lol. great thread title Franny.

Today I have been mostly eating my special super soup which is made of olive oil roasted onions, celery and carrots (mashed), 500mls of chunky passata, rice miso to season, throw in a tin of organic mixed beans and a handful of quinoa, a little water and bay leaf. Plus a few apples and oranges so I pass the 10/10 test today! Yay!

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2009 20:48
