For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

OsmosisBanana · 20/01/2009 20:51

Ahem, may I draw your attention to this comment which I cannot believe in a hall / yurt full of veggies has gone unnoticed!

'I have been veggie for 15 days. I would like a steak now please as a prize, or just a badge.'

LR - sympathies for the teeth, mine do the same thing... They make a bid for freedom then sink back down again, then repeat. Maybe I'm a wisdom tooth vampire thingy?

FrayedKnot · 20/01/2009 20:52

I also love this title btw

OsmosisBanana · 20/01/2009 20:53

TooT - you are certifiable. midnight baking? Now midnight floorboard sanding, that's where it's at.

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2009 20:56

well if you can bear it, or when it calms down, rach, brush HARD on the flappy bit, kind of pushing it away from gum, and it will go eventually
meanwhile be extra careful - bits of food get stuck under and then infection

Monkeytrousers · 20/01/2009 20:57

I'm addictd to roasted celery now. I use it as a base in all my soups and pasta sauces or grain/bean salads

OsmosisBanana · 20/01/2009 20:57

Good work! I have never even considered going veggie for

29 years

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2009 20:57

OsmosisBanana · 20/01/2009 21:03

It hasn't been too bad - being on an economy drive kinda takes the decision away from you when decent / responsibly sourced stuff costs £££££

I won't start on a global food resources rant.

Is the skin thing DS1 or 2 Fran? DD has horrific excema atm... I have been using the steroid cream so much recently it is starting to freak me out. Poor little thing.

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2009 21:03

OP posts:

Not impressed though. Meat is GOOD.

I would like an award for eating dinner

I thought about my posts when I went to bed last night - I think I was stroppy and stampy last night - sorry!

Monkeytrousers · 20/01/2009 21:07

What do you want to know. I buy tons of it. Our local supermarket is asda and it's 50p a bunch at the mo.

I chop it up, maybe add roughly chopped carrots, some onion - maybe a sprinkle of veggie stock (I use swiss marigold - you can get low salt) - toss it with some extra virgin oilve oil (so it's all coated but not swimming. Cover. Roast for - well, we have a v crap electic oven where you need to cook everything at 150 degrees. I check it after an hour and depending just how much there is. For cous cous or quinoa salad I'f stop cooking then, while it still had a little bite in it, but so it didn't crunch. For soup base it might need another hour. Check it and when it is basically mashable (that's just the way I like it - no hard lumps in soup for DS too) mash it up and just add it to whatever soup you are making if the tastes are compatible. It's a good thickener too. I freeze a lot of it also.
