Anyone else got this Virus - ongoing Nausea - I have had it for 4 weeks

Just been to the doctor. I have had Nausea now for 4 weeks. The doctor says it is a virus and I should be OK soon. He said that unlike the Norovirus this one can linger for a while. Was wondering if anyone else had anything similar and if so how long did it last. One good thing I suppose I didn't put on any weight over Christmas!!, but I would just love to feel healthy again.

That sounds terrible. Have painkillers been ineffective against your headaches? Glad to hear the nausea has mostly stopped for you. I’ve not really had any head or body aches, just weird intermittent nausea, churning stomach and slight lightheadedness. Some days are better than others but starting to get more good days than bad. Still not fully shut of it though. Been 5 weeks today since first symptoms. Well and truly out of ideas and remedies now :|

Hi DanCFC. Painkillers weren’t really doing anything for my headaches. I’ve been back to then doctors today and looks like I have Chronic Sinusitus. Can go on a bit longer yet too. A month or two 😞. Not sure if that’s what’s been wrong from the start or developed from a virus. Been taking some Sinutab which have eased some of the symptoms. Sounds like you have more of a stomach virus which I’ve not really suffered with so can’t offer any advice. Hope your feeling better?

DanCFC · 04/03/2019 17:51

How horrible. Glad the tablets are giving you some relief. Perhaps it developed from a virus like you say? I’ve been diagnosed with chronic gastritis - also supposedly as a result of a virus :/ still getting grief 7.5 weeks on Sad starting to feel it’ll never go away

Hi All - I’m so pleased I found this thread! Put my mind at ease, 7 days in 😊 I spoke with the doctor over the phone who confirmed the virus side of things, but he also explained it wasn’t contagious. I am due to be staying with some friends at the weekend and one of them is in the early stages of pregnancy so want to be careful. Does anyone have any further thoughts on this?

DanCFC · 19/03/2019 18:15

Hi Klm90, what are your symptoms? I have been living with my family for most of the illness and can confirm my virus isn’t contagious. Feel like I’m just getting over this virus now but it’s been quite a while, maybe 9 weeks or so

Klm90 · 19/03/2019 19:05

Hi DanCFC - my symptoms are nausea (I vomited last 4 days ago), headaches, dizziness, bubbling stomach, cramps, low energy. That’s good to know, thank you. There’s no one I’ve been in contact with that I seem to have got it from/I’ve given it to so that’s reassuring, thank you!

I think I have this virus now - my 20 month old has it first but seems to have bounced back much faster. I'm on day 5 and expecting to have to call in sick this week. Had D&v, now just left with nausea and constant churning, a cough, light headed, exhausted, high temp. It's the worst. Every time I think I'm improving I feel worse again! I can't handle this for 8 weeks - what with missing work loads for my little one being sick, I'll end up losing my job 😫

tirerout · 23/04/2019 15:53

I think my husband has this. He's had if since Thursday .. he has terrible churny stomach, hardly eaten, awful headache, hardly moved. We have a 14 month old son who can't understand why daddy can't move and play with him, breaks my heart a little. What on earth is this bug...

JudyOha · 30/04/2019 21:42

Hi everyone,
Would be grateful if someone could help - most of my symptoms are like what the OP has written about.

I've had diarrhea and nausea (which comes in waves, off and on but no vomitting) for the last 4 weeks..! Went to the GP when it was at the 2 week stage and they guessed it might be a virus (not bacteria) so of course, antibiotics would not help. They gave me anti-nausea medication (which I've taken a few times but doesn't work fully).. so depressing and awful to be fine one moment and then feel a severe wave of nausea come on suddenly (esp when at work etc.)

Appetite is lower than usual but still able to eat (day 4, 5 had very little appetite). I don't know what to do or why it's lasted 4 weeks so far :( nor how much longer it's going to go on for. I've had D&V before which has lasted about 2 days.. never had nausea and diarrhea only for over 4 weeks :(

Did have fever-like high temp on one day at the 2 week mark and mild tummy pains.

JudyOha · 02/05/2019 21:48

Bump :(

So glad to come across this thread.is there anyone else suffering like this at the moment.
It started a week ago, nausea chills belly ache, tired, dizzy and loose stools,by the weekend I was in hospital had a drip but all bloods and chest xray ok,now I'm just having waves of awful nausea where I need to clench my teeth to stop vomiting, belly ache on and off and on and off diarrhoea, dizzy spells and tiredness. I dont have much appetite and I'm losing weight, I'm never ever poorly, apart from ibs so its shook me up, I have anxiety and now I'm convinced I have goodness knows how many illnesses. The gp at the hospital says its viral as I have had a stressful few weeks and it weakens your immune system, but I dont have any cough cold symptoms!
I feel a little reassured for seeing this post,
Is there anything I can drink to gain the weight I'm losing due to lack of appetite etc
Thanks for reading and I hope your all feeling better

tirerout · 28/08/2019 20:06

Aw wow, I hope you feel better! My husband has this virus for 10 days and it knocked him out completely. Try to drink if you can.. maybe lucozade or something for a bit of energy.. dry toast? Try to rest. You'll get better soon but it probably doesn't feel like it! Hope you feel better soon!

Birthdaybirthday1 · 28/08/2019 21:24

I've also got a horrible virus, it's been 10 days now. So dizzy and lightheaded! It's horrible 😞 I don't seem to be getting any better, my head feels worse than it did a few days ago. My ears are also blocked. Sorry you're suffering too hugs you tend to think these viruses hit in the colder months xxx

Baileys38 · 29/08/2019 11:31

Hi tireout, I hope your husband is feeling better today!
Hi birthsay birthday1 I hope your feeling better today.my nausea isnt quite so bad but my tummy is a mess, still have loose stools and losing more weight(water weight I'm guessing due to the loose stools) booked in to see the doctor later just to see what he suggests.i dont know if I should take imodium but I'm always wary with bugs and viruses about keeping them in.i dont feel as I'll as I did but the weight going down daily is worrying me(even though I know practically why its happening it's not easy when your skinny anyway)
Sending you both get well hugs and thankyou for replying x

chasewil · 13/09/2019 16:11

HI ,I know this is an old thread but ive had this nasty nausea for 6 wks now.the first month it was constant, now it goes away and comes back every other days for the last 2wks.

good blood tests, scope and countless trips to specialist with no anwser. finding this thread has gave a little hope as my spirit has been broke since not being able to find out what this is.

im hoping some of you that have had this can post back here to give me more piece of mind that this thing will go away...

Oldmum55 · 13/09/2019 17:14

Chasewill I had this 'virus' last year. I still don't know for sure what was causing the symptoms but like yourself the tests came back fine so it was put down to 'viral'. Yes the weird and unpleasant symptoms did eventually disappear.

Lizandalfiedog · 14/09/2019 18:49

Hi sounds like i too have this virus, I do manage to eat, it's just the constant nausea and stomach churning that's getting to me, I feel better as the day goes on, feel hopeful about next day and then it hits me again, the nausea makes me feel anxious too, I know it's not caused by that as I have sertraline for that and wouldn't have suddenly stopped working, or get better as day went on. Two weeks now ugh.

chasewil · 15/09/2019 08:57

lizz i have the exact thing , the last 2 weeks its 2days i feel nauseated and then the next 2 i get better and hopeful than it hits again....

and thank you Oldmum for responding. do you know exactly which week it was about gone and stopped coming back ?im almost to 7wks

Oldmum55 · 15/09/2019 09:13

Chasewil it was about 8 plus, I thought it would never end. At some point I wasn't sure it was the same virus, post virus or a new one! I think the GP thought I was a hypochondriac but the symptoms were real enough!

Lizandalfiedog · 15/09/2019 10:20

Gosh hope I don't have it that long, had it two weeks now and don't know how much longer I can cope with it, feels like I've had it forever and never going to get back to normal, trying some anti sickness tabs to see if they help at all.

Lizandalfiedog · 15/09/2019 16:34

Still feeling awful and now got the runs as well, I'm hoping that will mean I'm better soon as body finally getting rid of bug, anyone?

chasewil · 15/09/2019 18:42

my twin brither also had this same exact thing for 3wks, idk if mine is the same but im guessing

lizz my twin only lasted 3wks so you might have a shorter spell of it than the rest of us

chasewil · 15/09/2019 18:45

oldmum thats how i feel how everyone else around me is taking my sickness

Lizandalfiedog · 15/09/2019 23:13

Chasewil I so hope so, I wake each morning hoping and then the sick feeling hits and I'm like oh no here we go again.

chasewil · 16/09/2019 04:22

lizz have you had blood tests and ct scan on your stomach and esophagus?what about h pylori test?

i know how demoralizing it is, ive cried for the first time in many years because it so hard to find good help and i just want to know what this is. dont give up hope it will go away,my brother had the same thing and it passed...
