Anyone else got this Virus - ongoing Nausea - I have had it for 4 weeks

Just been to the doctor. I have had Nausea now for 4 weeks. The doctor says it is a virus and I should be OK soon. He said that unlike the Norovirus this one can linger for a while. Was wondering if anyone else had anything similar and if so how long did it last. One good thing I suppose I didn't put on any weight over Christmas!!, but I would just love to feel healthy again.

Hi Sophia1984. It is good to know you’re not alone isn’t it. I keep worrying that it’s something else but all blood tests and check have come back okay so far. Just want to feel better. I’m going back to the Drs again this morning for the aches and pains as they have got worse.

Hello, another one dropping by to report very similar symptoms, the day before Xmas eve I started to get backache and the feeling that I was on the verge of a cold or flu, aching, fatigue, generally feeling unwell etc. Xmas day and Boxing Day it really kicked in with nausea, burning abdominal pains and feelings like my organs were being jabbed on the inside. I have had awful backache throughout since with skin sensitivity over my waist.
I am exhausted yet trying to sleep at night and get comfortable is impossible.
I went to OOH on Thursday evening and was given an antacid medication as the doctor thought it was a gastric issue (I think he thought I’d overindulged as all my vital signs including a urine check were fine) but in reality I’d had no appetite and had eaten very little as I felt slightly nauseous.
I’m achy, tired, tummy feels out of sorts and I burp constantly. Bowels seem ok. All random, non specific things but enough to make me feel awful and it’s ruined xmas to be honest and we’ve cancelled our NYE party tonight as I’m just not up to it. DH has had flu symptoms for a fortnight but his tummy is fine and he’s now left with just an awful cough so it’s not that what I’ve caught I don’t think.
Back in work on Wednesday and I’m hoping I can start sleeping properly by then or I’ll be good for nothing!

lauray1910 · 31/12/2018 10:18

Where are your pains mine is mainly right side been to hospital twice they also gave me stuff for gastric acid reflux and buscopan seemed to help for a week then pains came bk so went bk to docs which gave me antibiotics maybe infection from maybe having gallstones I've finished them and pains came bk again but not bad and today I feel ok again just achy when i had pains couple weeks ago I was up all night just couldn't lie down

Snowscene14 · 31/12/2018 10:53

My pain has been on the left hand side, it’s mostly backache but radiates to the stomach. My whole abdomen felt burning and sore and I burped constantly. I’ve googled all sorts lol, I’ve thought it was pancreatitis, kidney infection, kidney stones, yesterday as my skin felt sore shingles.
The discomfort at night has been the worst, just unable to sleep. To complicate matters I do have disc degeneration in the spine so it may be simply a flare up of that but this is much higher up in the rib area. Shocking, stabbing pain that feels as though I’m being poked on the inside. Occasional chills and so tired. Fed up now!

lauray1910 · 31/12/2018 11:04

Have u had blood tests done they will rule out alot of things I constantly Google to which makes anxiety really bad I've just gotta wait for my scan to see if it's gallstones or not im sick of feeling like crap to my kids just wanna play board games etc but I feel to depressed to do anything its been a crappy xmas tbf

Snowscene14 · 31/12/2018 11:37

No, I’ve not had blood tests, this on,y really kicked off the day or so before Xmas eve so doctors have either been shut or when I went to OOH on Thursday they were fairly dismissive as all my vitals were ok.
We’ve had a crappy Xmas too so I so sympathise, my DCs are older teens so hibernate in their rooms or go out anyway so at least I’ve not had to entertain them, just provide the food lol.
If it continues I’ll go to the GP later in the week and ask for bloods. I tend to be anxious too and worry that every little twinge is cancer or a life threatening infection. 🙈

lauray1910 · 31/12/2018 11:49

I'm exactly the same Google and worry about everything my kids are 3, 9, 13 and 15 don't see much of the eldest always out lol yeah if no better go bk for blood tests mine are clear and had ecg which was fine I'm hoping it's a bug not stones but will wait and see

lauray1910 · 01/01/2019 15:08

How u feeling now Snowscene14

Milo1995 · 02/01/2019 03:16

Hi all, it's currently 3.15am and I'm up feeling terribly sick and churning stomach. I am so glad I came across this post as I am going insane being on my 12th day with it. I'm not sure I can cope with a couple more weeks of it 😫 had all the same symptoms, really hoping I shift it soon!!!

lauray1910 · 02/01/2019 08:48

Do you have any pain ?

Milo1995 · 02/01/2019 17:25

Yes I have pain in my stomach when I'm having my bouts of nausea.

SBMul88 · 02/01/2019 18:00

Hi Jen1320 just wondering how you are feeling now - I feel like I have had this similar time scale to you. 6wks plus now - I am feeling better but just not 100%. My stomach still very fragile, thankfully Nausea has stopped. Just wondering how long it takes to feel normal again 😫

lauray1910 · 03/01/2019 22:37

How is everyone now ?

Jen1320 · 09/01/2019 13:02

Hi SBmul88
It took a good while for me maybe 8 weeks for the nausea to go completely, it was awful, how u feeling now, such a strange virus x

SBMul88 · 11/01/2019 22:36

Thank you for replying Jen1320, actually feel like I am now eventually getting there at last and that’s been nearly 8wks, hopefully that’s it gone for good because like you there have been times where I thought I was getting there only for that horrendous Nausea to strike again!!! Take care! Hope everyone else keeping well!!

Janeyjon · 12/01/2019 11:37

Hello everyone I’m new to here . I just want some help and advice . Since Wednesday 2nd of January I have had the most awful flu / stomach bug. It all started with aches and pains and severe migraine, but I didn’t take much notice of this as I get bad heads anyway. Then late on Saturday I started Diarrhoea, nausea , sweating , shaking and hot and cold. I spent the three days in bed feeling sorry for myself. On Wednesday I moved to the sofa , but the aches and pains in my body were the most severe I’ve ever had , even when I’ve had flu before . These really were something else. I then thought it was coming out as a cold as my nose and throat felt like they do when you have one , plus earache now and again. The thing is the aches and pains have gone but my stomach is still decidedly queasy and acidic. Everything seems to affect it unless very bland food. I had some chicken noodle soup Thursday evening , but woke in the night feeling sick again . This morning I have had some shreddies and milk, but even that has given me acid . Why am I still feeling like this ? Surely it should be getting better . Doctor has told me it all sounds viral , although that was over the phone . Please help

Anyone still on here to give an update? Been ill for 20 days now with bad nausea that comes and goes and a churning stomach but haven't had any sickness or diarrhoea. Had what felt like tonsillitis part way through but that’s cleared up fine. Assumed it was a virus and would pass in a few days but getting anxious about this now.

SBMul88 · 30/01/2019 20:31

Hi Dancfc- I have just recovered from this awful virus. The nausea, churning nervy stomach. I also had terrible diahorrea too. 3 wks ago after 6 wks of feeling terrible I started taking probiotic tablets I got in boots it’s one a day and not sure if it’s just a coincidence and I was already getting over the virus but I feel so much better and my stomach is almost back to normal, think they might have helped the healing process as my stomach was so fragile and I lost loads of weight. I have never been ill like I was and still have a fear it might come back!!! Hope you feel better soon

reenchantmentofeverydaylife · 30/01/2019 23:41

Dan I've had the same as you, even down to the tonsilitis which appears to have gone now (lasted about 5 days and was only on the left side). But the nausea still comes and goes, and the churning stomach gets bad for a couple of days and then calms down a fair bit, but is still a bit upset. And then it flares up again for a day or two, and there seems to be no rhyme or reason. Like you I haven't had diarrhoea but some days my stools have been loose and pretty frequent. The part that's really getting me down though is the headaches, have you had those too? They move from side to side depending on what day it is, and they get into my teeth and make my face hurt. Last couple of days I've felt quite depressed with it, very low mood. It has been going on for a good couple of weeks, possibly longer. Hard to tell because I always seem to have some bug or other these days. Anyway, hope you're feeling less anxious this evening. Keep us posted. I've got an appointment with my GP tomorrow and will mention it to him.

DanCFC · 31/01/2019 09:15

Hi SBMul88 - glad to hear you’re better! Thanks for the suggestion, going to get some probiotics tonight to see if they help. I’ve tried ginger, peppermint tea and anti nausea tablets and none have been very effective so far. Really odd how it comes and goes so frequently. I find rennies can give me slight relief at times.

I know exactly what you mean reenchantment, sounds pretty much identical to my symptoms. Yeah I’ve been getting the odd dull headache, maybe not to the extent of yours but they’re still nasty and contribute to the sickness. For me it’s mostly the random nausea and sometimes dizziness. At times feel like I have trapped gas but can’t burp it out. It’s been getting me down too just feels never ending at the moment, fingers crossed it shifts very soon. I will do, let me know how the appointment goes

reenchantmentofeverydaylife · 31/01/2019 20:08

GP said it's definitely a thing, nasty virus that can take weeks to resolve. He said plenty of rest, bland foods, and paracetamol etc for the headaches. He offered to prescribe something for the nausea but I'd prefer to drink ginger tea, since it hasn't been a huge part of the problem for me and I can cope with it. Sounds like your particular case of whatever-it-is has given you some refluxy-type symptoms, like the feeling of trapped gas that you can't belch out. My personal tip for that is tapping across the collarbone and on the outside edge of your left hand, between the wrist and the bottom of the little finger. Use your index and middle fingertips of your right hand to tap on your collarbone gently, and if that doesn't help tap your left hand in the same way, and just keep tapping until the gas comes up. It's based on Chinese meridian points and acupressure and really works. Has even saved me from panic attacks in the past. You can youtube search terms like 'tapping for anxiety' and 'tapping for reflux' or 'indigestion' to see demos of people tapping, if you've never come across it before. Hope you really feel an improvement very soon. I've had to start antidepressants today and am just hoping my stomach can cope with them.

DanCFC · 03/02/2019 17:55

How’re you feeling of late? Sorry to hear that, getting very frustrating now just start to feel better then it comes back the same as before. Thanks for the tip, tapping has been working very well for me. Been 3 weeks now, sounds like it could be another 2-4 weeks before it’s gone Sad

Sarah40two · 15/02/2019 19:41

I’m struggling still with this virus if that’s what it is. Been ill for 3 months now! Started with the nausea but thats not as bad now. Mainly my head now feeling headache/pressure and toothache. I went back to the Drs recently and think it is sinus related. She said can it make you feel really ill and tired. My ear drums perforated about 5 weeks ago which must be connected. I keep thinking I’m feeling better but keeps coming back 😞

DanCFC · 15/02/2019 20:56

Oh no that’s not good, have you had the headaches all along your illness? How’s your stomach now still getting nausea?

Sarah40two · 15/02/2019 21:30

Hi DanCFC. My head has felt awful most of the time since I started feeling ill. Most of the time a weird pressure type feeling and then a few horrible headaches that wouldn’t shift for at least 12 hours. Not had much nausea for a good few weeks now. Just the odd bout for an hour maybe. I have had some weird aches and pains along the way but mainly my head now. How are you feeling?
