Anyone else got this Virus - ongoing Nausea - I have had it for 4 weeks

Just been to the doctor. I have had Nausea now for 4 weeks. The doctor says it is a virus and I should be OK soon. He said that unlike the Norovirus this one can linger for a while. Was wondering if anyone else had anything similar and if so how long did it last. One good thing I suppose I didn't put on any weight over Christmas!!, but I would just love to feel healthy again.

Well I actually thought I was starting to get over this awful thing after 5 weeks but came over feeling all nauseous again today, an starting to think it could be my anxiety peaking its ugly head!

Bunnyfuller · 18/12/2019 20:21

It’s bloody horrible. I had a few sandwiches and a bit of cake at work Christmas buffet at lunchtime. Now definitely cannot face anything. It feels like anything I eat just sits in my stomach.

Oh well, it’ll be a slim, sober Christmas!

Minai · 19/12/2019 16:00

I keep hoping that tomorrow I’ll be feeling better and I wake up with the nausea. It’s really getting me down and I’m so worried it’s something sinister which I’m sure isn’t helping matters. Keep trying to eat to make myself feel normal again but I just can’t stomach anything.

supermariio · 21/12/2019 22:28

@Minai Good luck for tomorrow, fingers crossed everything goes ok with you. I'm waiting for my date for a colonoscopy, I feel much better though but because of the tiny amount of blood which I think had something to do with my period they have to investigate.

I'd like to join in. Do these symptoms match anyone -
For a few weeks I've had a gnawing pain in abdomen behind right ribs. It sometimes moves a bit but then goes straight back.
Horrendous burping which bubbles up again immediately afterwards. Tummy making gurgling noises but not actually being productive. I think I'm probably constipated which doesnt help, and just want to sit and cry. A couple of weeks ago I had outrageous diarrhoea with severe tummy pain then a migraine the following day, and I havent got back to normal since then. A few days have been better than others and I've eaten well, then back to feeling lousy.
I'm a pretty big drinker so I'm also worried in case it's something more, eg my liver.
I'm april I had an endoscopy which showed gastritis and irritation. I also had an MRI to check if there were any stones or sludge anywhere, however I don't know if theyd have checked my liver or pancreas.
I had my gallbladder removed many years ago and have had a mild niggle in the RUQ for a few years.

Hello, I'm on week 3 of what I'm praying is this dreadful virus. I have been to 4 doctors! The doctor I saw today freaked me out as he said I was totally justified to be worried because no virus could last this long :(
My symptoms are as follows, before Christmas I had horrible nausea resulting in a lot of dry heaving (TMI), then exhaustion and quite a few days in bed and some kind of light-headedness or pressure headache. Week 2 I still got intense bouts of nausea throughout the day but managed to enjoy the majority of my days (still exhausted).
I then finally thought I was over it but today the nausea/wretching/ light-headed feelings have all returned :( :( I think I'm not helping myself because I feel too nauseated to eat and I think it's making things worse & I've lost a Lot of weight :(
This post is a life line for me... I just hope the horrible doctor can give me some answers soon

supermariio · 07/01/2020 22:18

I had 6 weeks of this, I've put it down to stomach flu. Honestly it was horrendous and I thought I had some sort of cancer because no one else had it in the family and it wouldn't go away, the week starting the 9th December was a huge turning point and it finally left my body. But because it's gone on for so long I've been referred for scans and a colonoscopy. I feel absolutely fine now but I will still go for them.

The only thing I did at the end was drink ginger tea and eat bananas and brown bread. At the end of it I had terrible stomach cramps and felt like I was going to explode. This is after six weeks of headaches, nausea, dizziness, kidney & stomach spasms. My doctor also couldn't believe it lasted so long and I felt like a hypochondriac, I also lost 9lb in weight.

Hi all,

I’m so glad I’ve found this thread! I’ve been feeling how everyone has described since last Thursday.

I’ve seen a doctor (thought it was vertigo due to dizziness) then a nurse who thought it was low blood sugar, and I am going to see another doctor today as it’s persisting. I had blood tests done yesterday, so I’m hoping I’ll get those results soon.

The dizziness with nausea was worse last week, now it’s more nausea than dizziness unless I suddenly feel panicked that I’m going to feel sick again, then the dizziness comes but I am thinking that’s anxiety.

The only thing that makes me think it’s nothing sinister is that it’s worse in the mornings, and by the evenings I feel perfectly fine (not pregnant, had a test done by the nurse).

I am posting as I would like some advice please from anyone who had this - I am due to go on holiday on Saturday to the Caribbean and am wondering if I should go?! I am going to ask the doctor today what she thinks. But is this likely to get any better by then if it’s been going on for this long? So fed up of it now and it really couldn’t have come at a worse time 😢

Xx

Mimi85 · 08/01/2020 09:12

@supermariio that sounds like a very difficult period, I'm pleased you are starting to recover.
There's no knowing if I am experiencing the same thing as you but it does sound like it.
The one thing that is making me think mine is stomach related is that I have mild diarrhea (TMI).
@Melly1801 - it's so difficult to advise. Do you feel like you're improving or getting worse? I think it would be scary to feel really rotten so far away from home BUT if you're on the mend, you don't want to miss a fantastic holiday. Do you have travel insurance?

Melly1801 · 08/01/2020 11:51

@Mimi85 I feel like I'm improving - I just know how anxious I can get about things. Went to the doctor this morning and he said there's no reason I can't go. Blood tests were all fine apart from slightly high white blood count which he advised was a sign of a virus. I've been given anti sickness tablets to take so hope they help.

Mimi85 · 08/01/2020 12:32

Hi Melly, it sounds like you're on the mend and your doctor is encouraging you to go. I hope you feel better soon and enjoy your holiday to the fullest.
I'm still feeling completely dreadful and don't know what to do :(

Melly1801 · 08/01/2020 13:17

Thanks @mimi85 - sure I am not out of the woods yet as it's only been six days, and by the sounds of it it can last many more weeks. At least I haven't actually been sick, and it does ease off by the afternoon.

I know you said you've seen four doctors, could you try seeing one of the previous ones again if they were better? Have you had any blood tests?

Mimi85 · 08/01/2020 14:52

I'm getting blood tests done this afternoon and hopefully will have some answers tomorrow. I've felt a bit less dreadful as the afternoon has progressed

Mimi85 · 08/01/2020 16:52

Just back from my GP where I did the blood tests. I felt absolutely dreadful, I was so nauseous that I was heaving and pacing up and down in the reception.
I'm so worried as to what this could be & keep imagining the worst :(

Melly1801 · 08/01/2020 17:17

@mimi85 I was exactly the same when I had mine done yesterday - I know I have got something, but I also think my anxiety is making it worse. If I sit thinking about how sick I’ve felt I suddenly feel sick again. Let me know how you get on with your results 😊

Mimi85 · 08/01/2020 17:24

@Melly1801 - But is your nausea so intense that you wretch?
I also feel headachy & tired...
I find it weird that there's no vomiting and mild diarrhea.
I've also lost a shedload of weight which is making me v anxious because I know I'm not imagining it

Melly1801 · 08/01/2020 17:31

No it isn’t, it just comes and goes. I have lost weight though, but I haven’t been eating as much as I normally do so I know that’s why. I’ve not had diarrhoea either. I’ve felt spaced out and dizzy though. Someone I work with said they’ve had something similar.

Mimi85 · 08/01/2020 18:05

@Melly1801 - I'm getting desperate now to feel better! I feel so weak & when the nausea comes on I can't do anything. I'm off work sick but I don't see an end in sight with this...
I can't believe mine can be viral...

Mimi85 · 09/01/2020 11:53

@supermariio what were the results of your tests in the end? Are you feeling completely better now?
I did initial blood tests & stool sample yesterday... I phoned the GP this morning and the receptionist said results not in yet and advised to call back on Saturday by which time they'd definitely back... This upset me quite a bit as I'm feeling so wretched that I'm in bed with a tension headache, nausea and weakness. Also had kind of diarrhea this morning
Just want to get to the bottom of this quickly. I have a 23month old to look after and I feel like I can't do anything :(

Twinklestar14 · 09/01/2020 12:10

Mine lasted about 6 weeks then eventually on christmas day (of all days) I had really bad vomiting and diarrhoea for about 3 days. After that I have been feeling my normal self again so must of finally got the bug out if me.

supermariio · 09/01/2020 12:18

Mimi85 All blood tests came back as normal. I did 2 stool test (FIT) and the first one came back with small amount of blood the second which I did few days later was normal. Stupidly and maybe because my head just wasn't right I took the first test whilst menstruating so this is probably why it is abnormal. Ive been to a GI appointment and they have booked me in for a colonoscopy and I have a scan for stomach and gallbladder on Sunday as at the time I had pain in these places. I don't feel as though anything is wrong with me now though as this awful virus made a finale week before Christmas and has not returned. I do believe this was a very bad case of stomach flu that effected all my organs but now I'm 100%. As I said though I will still for these appointments just to make sure as it did go on for so long.

supermariio · 09/01/2020 12:21

Mimi85 I really feel for you, I've been there and its a really dark time not knowing. Hope you get that turning point soon and back to normal ASAP. Let us know about your results. All I can say is try and rest, drink loads and if you can eat some dry toast xx

Mimi85 · 09/01/2020 15:26

@supermariio got the recent blood tests back - all in the normal or satisfactory range. They tested kidney, liver, prolactin (pregnancy), and cancer antigen (?!)
I forced myself to eat at lunch time...it was horrendous, forcing mouthfuls of potatoes & carrots in. I have felt slightly better since then...
I still have a tension headache & jaw ache....
I'm seeing 2 Doctors this afternoon... Let's hope they start making some diagnoses...

supermariio · 11/01/2020 22:27

How are things now Mimi hope your feeling better x

Mimi85 · 12/01/2020 07:59

Hello Supermariio,
So all tests came back normal. I think I was in such a heightened state of anxiety that I thought "what the hell is it then??"
I am not quite 100% but definitely better than a couple of days ago...the intense nausea & weakness has stopped! My appetite hasn't returned (but forcing myself to eat) and still have indigestion... I'm hoping this is just the body normalising.
How are you feeling? When are your tests?x
