Anyone else got this Virus - ongoing Nausea - I have had it for 4 weeks

Just been to the doctor. I have had Nausea now for 4 weeks. The doctor says it is a virus and I should be OK soon. He said that unlike the Norovirus this one can linger for a while. Was wondering if anyone else had anything similar and if so how long did it last. One good thing I suppose I didn't put on any weight over Christmas!!, but I would just love to feel healthy again.

Week 6 for me now. I had two weeks off and back at work but it’s like my body doesn’t want to recover or isn’t coping with the strain on healing. My heart keeps fluttering and it wipes me out like it’s a complete body exhaustion. Proper pity party over here 😭

neoh · 21/11/2019 10:48

It is very possible the 'virus' or whatever it is triggered your body to get to 'anxiety' mode.
Although it feels like 100% illness I would highly recommend consulting with a psychologist and a psychiatrist.
They have proven methods to treat these kind of things.

Thought I would share my tale as it seems I’m not alone..
Started with symptoms similar to what you would expect with food poisoning - high fever, loss of appetite, nausea, stomach inflated etc... However no vomiting and only one bout of diarrhoea. Couldn’t eat anything for a good 5 days and then I was slowly able to reintroduce some food.
Together with the stomach symptoms, at onset I also had sinus issues - pain/pressure etc..
After regaining my appetite I thought I was on the mend but then the waves of nausea started. More common to be worse in the morning but would start throughout the day as well.
This lasted for a good 6 weeks before symptoms began relieving. I’d have good days and bad days but seemed to be getting better. Then I started with random indigestion which in many ways was more uncomfortable than the nausea.
It’s week 11 now and still suffering with sinus pressure and the occasional nausea/indigestion. A lot better than I was but definitively do not feel I’m back to normal yet. Still don’t have the energy I should and generally feeling low.

I’m glad to have found this thread. I’ve felt ill for about 3 weeks now and no signs of improvement.

I’ve had fevers, chills, sweating, headaches, muscle aches, no appetite, nausea and tiredness.

My gp sent me for a blood test and it showed high levels of inflammation but other than that was broadly normal, then last week I woke up with a fever and felt like my heart was going crazy so I called 111 who sent me to a&e. My heart kept going tachycardic when I had a fever. They ran more blood tests which again showed high inflammation and slightly abnormal liver results but they’ve just said it all points to a virus.

I’m so worried because I don’t feel like it’s a virus at all. I’ve had no cold symptoms like sore throat, runny nose or cough, just the fevers and chills. I’m so worried it’s something like cancer and they’re just fobbing me off saying it’s a virus while I get worse and worse. It’s been so long I just can’t imagine feeling healthy again. I know I need to stay positive but I just can’t get my head around this being just a virus.

Oldmum55 · 07/12/2019 11:39

Minai I can only give you my experience last year I had all that, if you look back you can see my posts. You do start to think that there's something more going on especially as yourself I had no cold symptoms. Eventually in my case symptoms eased after approx 6/8 weeks. Still not sure what the problem was apart from 'virus'.

Minai · 07/12/2019 18:35

Thanks oldmum55 your old posts have helped reassure me a little. Just given that I’ve had no cold like symptoms I’m finding it so hard to accept that this is just a virus and I need to stop my mind running away with me and stop googling things because it’s just coming up with awful results and stressing me out so much. It’s good to know others have had similar symptoms and eventually recovered.

Twinklestar14 · 07/12/2019 20:04

This is so me right now it comes in waves been like it for just over 3 weeks now. I think I start to feel better then bam I feel so sick, was starting to worry it could be something else but reading these posts hav made me feel a little better.

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 08/12/2019 15:27

Ooh I’ve got this too. Feel ok then wave of nausea headachey and wiped out. Sick of being told I look pale (cheers for that).
A bit like a hangover crossed with morning sickness

Twinklestar14 · 09/12/2019 08:39

It's awful isn't it! Fingers crossed it doesn't last to much longer 🤞

supermariio · 10/12/2019 20:49

I started with this on 1st October, it went away for a few weeks but now it's back. And I think I'm going mad, I've been doctors and I think they're sick of me now. My husband is fed up with me I'm sure of it. So I'm just going to go through this alone and hope it goes away, hard to put a smiling face on when your crippled with stomach pain, gas and nausea. I've lost about 5lb since last week. I really wish it would just piss off now, I'm going to struggle enjoying Christmas with my kids. I just take paracetamol and anti sickness every day.

supermariio · 10/12/2019 21:08

Has anyone found this virus NOT contagious. I seem to be the only one in my family with this.

Twinklestar14 · 11/12/2019 18:57

Yes seems to be only me, well my hubby had it but only for about a week.

Bellabing75 · 11/12/2019 19:04

I’m pleased to have found this thread. My 14 year old son is on day 18 of morning vomiting, nausea, tiredness and sporadic diarrhoea. Seen GP twice and stool sample shows nothing. Seen a paediatrician today as he’s lost 10lbs and still no sign of improvement. By the afternoon, often feels better. Until the morning when it all starts again. Has anyone had the morning only vomiting (only bile-type sick with this odd virus???

Rootie007 · 11/12/2019 19:21

Yes! Me🙋‍♀️ I am the only one in my house who has been sick. My sickness started out feeling like a regular stomach flu of some sort. It lasted for over two months, then started to get better. I felt better for a week, then sick again hard for several weeks. Then again, better for a couple of weeks now sick again. Today I was tested for celiac disease. I have every single symptom. I may sound bad, but I am praying for a positive test result. I will take cutting gluten out of my diet any day over being sick for six months. 🙏I hope you feel better soon.

Bellabing75 · 11/12/2019 21:05

@Rootie007 I’m sorry to hear this. I wish it were me that was ill but it’s my son and it’s really getting him down. He has today had bloods taken and will be having an ultrasound on Monday to check for abdominal issues and coeliac. All this is preferable to the suggestion from the Dr that his morning vomiting (it’s only the morning) could also be a symptom of a brain tumour 😳😱 and an mri will be booked if nothing shows in his bloods and or ultrasound. I’m hoping like never before that he has this odd virus!!!

supermariio · 11/12/2019 22:43

bellabing it sounds as though your son has this virus as most people have said about the sickness in the morning. Try not to worry Thanks although easy for me to say. I've lost 8lb over 2 weeks with it, I'm starting to feel better today but no doubt it will come back. I'm beginning to wonder if it is the same virus or after the first time I had it I'm now susceptible to every stomach virus going. It's draining though, I'm the only one out of us all that's had it within the family so it's hard to explain to people why I keep being ill when I don't know myself.

Bellabing75 · 11/12/2019 23:54

Thanks superMario - the rational part of my brain tells me it’s a virus or at worse some kind of autoimmune condition (I have one and so does my mum 😬). There is the other niggly part of my brain that thinks the worst! And no-one else seems to have it - how is that possible?!?

Oldmum55 · 12/12/2019 10:17

Bellabing why would the doctor suggest such a scary thing at this stage I don't know. I too lost weight and usually there's no way I lose an ounce! Still I know what you mean we rather go through all that ourselves than our kids. Just think that they want to be thorough which is not a bad thing. Hopefully all will be fine. Flowers

Minai · 13/12/2019 10:42

Sorry to hear others are ill too. I’ve been back to the gp, I think they are getting fed up of me. I’ve been referred to a stomach clinic as it’s been over a month now I’ve not been able to eat. I’m not getting fevers or chills any more and but I still feel really tired, can’t eat and feel nauseous pretty much all the time.
Doctor felt my stomach and it was a bit tender. He said maybe acid reflux and gave me tablets for that and nausea but they gave me the most horrendous diarrhoea (sorry tmi) that I’ve stopped taking them. Think I’ll go back next week and ask for more blood tests. Just so hard to accept this is a virus when it has gone on so long. I just want to feel normal again. So terrified there’s something dreadfully wrong and all the docs are saying it’s just a virus.

supermariio · 13/12/2019 21:59

Minai I've had a look at some notes and I first started with this on 22nd Sept 😳 obviously not all the time but in waves. This week has been the worst with chills and fever on Monday, I thought it was finally going today as I had terrible pains in stomach as though it's stuck and trying to get out. But tonight the chills have come back. I have a GI app Wednesday and maybe look at having a colonoscopy or endoscopy. I'm normally fit and well and scared to death this is something sinister 😱😱

Rootie007 · 13/12/2019 23:37

Has anyone else had the blood test for Celiac Disease? I am day three gluten-free, and already feeling better. You can also test negative for CD and be nonCD gluten sensitive. I was grabbing at straws when my husband ran across an article for CD. Most of us on here are talking about most of the symptoms — just something to look into.

Minai · 16/12/2019 09:48

@supermariio I also have a GI appointment. They are going to do an endoscopy to see if they can see what’s going on. Hoping to get to the bottom of what it is. I feel better in myself, slightly less tired and a bit more energy but still can’t eat and feel very nauseous especially in the morning. It feels a lot like morning sickness right now but definitely not pregnant! Wish I was as at least there would be something positive causing this!

Been for more blood tests today to see if they have gone back to normal as the last lot showed high inflammation and liver results were a bit off which I was told was most likely a result of a virus.

supermariio · 16/12/2019 18:30

@Minai As from yesterday I've had no nausea after weeks of it and my stomach pains have gone. Saturday morning I was in the worst pain ever and I went to the toilet and felt like the virus left my body, it's hard to explain but I really think it might have gone. I'm obviously no doctor but I'm convinced what I had was an horrendous stomach bacteria bug that got into my intestines and caused all the flapping and upset stomach that I had, the nausea was probably from the bacteria still inside me. I really do feel much better however I'm now left with burning pain in my right upper back or exactly were my gallbladder is and I'm wondering if this has been damaged with the virus. It's been ongoing for 2 months + and hopefully on Wednesday I will have some answers.

Do you know what happens at a GI appointment? Do they scan you or just examine you?

It's weird not having any nausea anymore, I keep thinking it's going to come on again but as of yet all is good.

Minai · 18/12/2019 10:17

Oh that’s great @supermariio hopefully this is the end of this horrible virus for you.

Still getting awful nausea here and feel very lightheaded and dizzy. It’s really getting me down now and can’t help worrying it’s something really serious. I wake up every day hoping today I’ll be better and it’s like bloody Groundhog Day with the nausea.

Still waiting for my latest blood results and have an endoscopy on Sunday. Hoping to get some answers soon.

Bunnyfuller · 18/12/2019 19:14

Relieved to have found this thread. I’ve felt rough since Saturday - knackered, nauseous and v poor appetite. I feel utterly washed out. Sunday I had 2 episodes of horrific diarrhoea and my sleep is very fitful.

I was worried it might be symptoms from a breast abscess I had drained on Monday. I haven’t had any tachycardia, and don’t want any as I already have heart problems.

And I’m the only one in the family with it too!
