Misdee - you've been so strong these last few months, I think you allowed the wobbles, even though I know you're frightened that if you let it all go it won't stop. I so wish there was more I could do for you. You dh is in the best of hands and I have everything crossed that a heart will become available for him. Huge hugs X

noddyholder · 15/03/2005 13:40

Am so sorry Misdee have just seen this. The donor heart will come from someone who wasn't going to live anyway I had a problem with this when I needed a kidney before my brother was tested but often the families of donors take great comfort in the fact that something positive comes from their loss.your dp so deserves this chance and it will give you all a new life not just him. When will they let you know more?

mummylonglegs · 15/03/2005 14:11

Misdee, I am SO SO SO sad for you. I hope and pray they find a heart for him and we can all listen to your stories of his amazing recovery. You have such a lot to deal with, especially with a newborn as well now. Thank goodness you have such good family support. You all deserve a very long holiday in May ...

mummylonglegs · 15/03/2005 14:11

By the way, how is dh himself holding up? Is he frightened? He must be so sad to be away from you and the dd's, especially little dd3 ...

sparklymieow · 15/03/2005 14:14

I'm sure Misdee won't mind me updating you all, she has gone to Harefield with the girls to see her DH, he is very weak BUT he has been put on the transplant list!! Hopefully a heart will come up soon and he will be able to live a long and happy life with my sis and nieces

Marina · 15/03/2005 14:15

Thinking of you all, misdee. XXX
Can we all check we have our donor cards/registration active, and badger our other halves to do likewise? When is this country going to move to default consent for organ donation ?

noddyholder · 15/03/2005 16:05

totally agree marina

piffle · 15/03/2005 16:14

Very best wishes to you, dh and your girls misdee. I do hope this difficult time will soon be over and dh can be at home with you all again very soon.

Hear hear Marina.

misdee · 15/03/2005 19:27

dh is very weak but a bit perkier than he has been. they have cleared a lot of fluid already (7 full bottles of wee in one night. sorry if tmi but gives an idea of how much excess fluid was there) so he is breathing easier. he has met with transplant surgeon and co-ordinator, and has had another echo done. he really isnt well, but they are hoping to get him stable enough to go home later this week.

How did they get that much fluid off misdee was it just pills? Is he actually on the list now?Look after yourself too

misdee · 15/03/2005 19:33

he is on IV frusimide. removing this much fluid is putting pressure on the kidneys and the frusimide can caused blood pressure problems as well, so they are monitoring closely.

he is on the active list now.

OP posts:
noddyholder · 15/03/2005 19:35

I have had a frusemide drip the night before my transplant it is powerful stuff and leaves you really knackered Being on the active list is great lets hope it won't take long

misdee · 15/03/2005 20:20

fingers crossed eh!

Never know quite what to post when the topic is so personal and so serious, so I will simply be another voice in the chorus and keep your family in my thoughts.

mummylonglegs · 16/03/2005 12:10

Thank goodness he's on the list, misdee! ANY idea how long? Even a rough estimate of months? I'm hoping for you all so much ... xxx

misdee · 16/03/2005 12:15

dh is likely to be kept intil lweekend again. they are talking about repeating the angiogram but they are still undecided on how best to treat him.

do they fit a VLAD device as a stop-gap for a transplant, a major op in itself, or wait for a heart, keep him in or let him come home and be medicated at home. him coming home means he is likely to be going into hospital every few weeks/months for periods of time as his condition gets worse.
