I'm interested in all the symptoms and how long one would be infectious for. TIA.

Has anyone had digestive issues with this as well ?, my skin feeling really sensitive and dry as well along with a bone dry throat, sinuses feels blocked but nothing is coming out along with a low level anxiety feeling, I can safely say this is the worst bug I can ever remember catching including covid.

I've been one step forward and two steps back. I'm still very tired, and if I do anything other than take it easy, I'm exhausted the next day. It's getting depressing! My nose starts running randomly too, making me cough all over again. I first went down with this on Boxing Day. Overall I'm getting better but it's slow progress

Lots of digestive issues, main thing apart from the exhaustion and brain fog. And wheezing.

Five weeks in, I feel I'm within sight of the finishing line, and taking a variety of blue cheeses to re-set my gut flora.

I’m about 3.5 weeks and the range of symptoms have been terrible, its completely wrecked my digestion along with conjunctivitis and everything else that has been mentioned. I’m pretty sure its Adenovirus

AutumnLover1989 · 08/01/2026 14:42

I'm feeling a little better today. Had the best night sleep last night in about 8 days. Still have diarrhea though 😞 Husband thought he'd got away with catching anything and he came down with it yesterday. He's also got diarrhea 😞

Wafflesandcrepes · 08/01/2026 15:15

Day 10 here, still in bed and on antibiotics for sinusitis. Symptoms are now easing but I’m still pretty congested and my ears and teeth hurt if I don’t take painkillers.

Lots of love to you all. Keep the faith!

That's an interesting suggestion. I hadn't heard of Adenovirus but reading about it, it does tick a lot of the boxes. I just hope it clears up soon, whatever it is.

I have definitely gone through lots of waves of anxiety with this virus 😞. I’m on day 10 today and feel maybe 75% now. Still very congested and full of green and sore body from all the coughing!

Yes upset tummy, diarrhoea for the last 3 days. Just don't want to eat as I feel I'm going to vomit but don't. Still coughing. Glands are now up and I still feel so exhausted. About day 9.

Hakunapatata · 08/01/2026 20:25

Jaw ache and puffy eyes now for good measure!

Yeah, I had digestive issues (with the little I was eating), would flinch if my husband put a hand on my arm because of how unpleasant it felt on my skin, and was drinking gallons because of the dry throat.

baroqueandblue · 09/01/2026 08:36

I can't make head nor tail of this whatever-it-is. I was a bit stupid, to be fair - I stopped taking the antibiotics after 5 days because I was feeling quite a lot better and my sinus symptoms had gone... or so I thought. Two days later they were back but worse than before, my face (particularly my lower back teeth) has been really painful and I'm generally feeling rougher. So I started the doxycycline again on Wednesday and will keep taking them for another 7 days. This morning I woke up quite a bit earlier than usual and my heart was thumping. Felt generally pretty groggy. My cough isn't full on by any means but when I do cough it feels really dry and sounds quite hoarse. I've had this since Boxing Day, but having said that I was feeling a bit grim for a while before Christmas, so who knows. In bed and about to try and sleep again.

Out of interest, for those experiencing teeth pain with this, have you had any pain in your upper arms, shoulders and neck too? I suffer with fibromyalgia anyway so it can be hard to tell where that ends and something else begins 🤷‍♂️

How are you getting on now, OP?

mechanicalpencil · 09/01/2026 10:49

Day 21 and can’t speak at all.
Cough now getting worse but now more of a dry cough.
Still tired.

Will this ever end?

therockingbird · 09/01/2026 12:03

I’m so frigging sick.. 😷 been like this since Tuesday and getting progressively worse!! My head is pounding - no tablets work. My nose is constantly running and I’m sneezing all the time. Eyes watering, shoulders aching and shivering despite being wrapped up. I can’t sleep either 😩

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 09/01/2026 15:36

I'm honestly so pissed off now. It's been over a month. I know it's not serious, people have awful health conditions and I shouldn't moan but I have been incapacitated, unable to do anything much and feel so frustrated. I'd bought things to make for Christmas ( all still in the boxes) and had planned so much I couldn't do. I even went 250 miles to go to a party on one of my 'good' days only to have to come back without going. The new frock and shoes wasted as I never go anywhere usually! Honestly I could cry, I just feel so ill.

I have also just pissed myself as I was coughing so hard. Which was nice.

Ugh! How long have you had it? I’m on day 11 (however, jury is out on this as I was ill a few days before Christmas, thought I was getting over it then got even more ill a few days after) and felt ok-ish this morning, but have dipped again, feeling bunged up with an awful headache and fatigued. Sick to death of this bloody thing!

FalseSpring · 09/01/2026 16:39

Mine has been well over a month now too. I had the flu jab but it doesn't seem to be effective for this strain.

I am on my second course of antibiotics for bronchitis and taking codeine to try and reduce coughing at night. Mine has now gone to my sinuses and I have earache and toothache alongside a horrible headache. I have just taken Plantago which I found at the back of the cupboard and I hope will help and have ordered some Friar's Balsam that I remembered worked well for me many years ago.

It started 6th December. I've been out of action since then. GP reckons it's the new strain of Covid. I've been coughing every 5 minutes, my ribs hurt from it.

I've had 3 times I thought I was better. One for 2 days, one for a day and one 5 day stint.

Snap! My eyelids are like balloons and despite being exhausted I can’t sleep due to the constant coughing…

KateShugakIsALegend · 10/01/2026 08:26

@baroqueandblue I hope you are feeling a bit better.

I may have misunderstood, but you should always finish the course of antibiotics, regardless of how you are feeling, otherwise you are helping the germs to become antibiotic resistant.

Please don’t worry about complaining about how ill you feel and how it’s stopped you doing your planned activities. I’ve had cancer and I still think it’s fine to complain about this horrendous flu/virus! It really is awful. It’s not great to have to write off weeks to being ill.

Wafflesandcrepes · 11/01/2026 08:10

Coming up to two weeks here and I’ve had four days of antibiotics with three left. Noticeably less snotty today but still can’t hear very well and I know there is infection left in my face. I can feel it. Nice already missed a week of work and don’t know if I’ll be able to go in or even wfh tomorrow.

Same here. Had about 3 days where I felt reasonable and then the dry cough and swollen throat kicked in proper. Am finding Difflam spray and drinking lemon and honey throughout the day helps a lot with the dry cough. And decongestant for any post-nasal drip.

Definitely all part of the same bug as haven't been anywhere to pick up any new ones!

I’m retired but had I been working I think 2 weeks off work would have been needed with the virus I’ve had. I remember times when I was ill at home and thought I’m ok I’ll go back to work but really not being well enough and it then taking much longer to recover. You can feel ok at home just pottering but once you show your face at work people expect you to be performing at 100%
