I'm interested in all the symptoms and how long one would be infectious for. TIA.

Day 8 here and still full of mucus (now bright green - sorry tmi), ears blocked, painful teeth… I don’t think this will get better without antibiotics.

I’m on day 8 and do have some of the same symptoms but mine hasn’t started to decongest so I was thinking maybe I have a sinus infection. Managed to get an appt in the 8 am scramble. Dr has prescribed a steroid nasal spray which he said should help with decongestion. No antibiotics but I’m ok with that. Realised after the appointment that I also now seem to have conjunctivitis in one eye.

I’ve been googling. Can be linked to flu apparently. How did you treat/get rid of yours? Think it’s one of those things that can be viral or bacterial.

the dr did actually say at one point are your eyes ok and I wondered what he meant and I think I must have just nodded. It was only when I got home I noticed my left eye is bloodshot and encrusted on the eyelashes. It does feel sore now.

Thanks for replying @CandidLurker I've had it for 4 days and been using some old eye drops which has helped soothe it.
It just feels like my whole immune system is being attacked.
My cough has gone to my chest again so back on antibiotics.
Hope you feel better soon💐

Yes thanks you too. Hope the antibiotics kick in soon.

I just saw this information about adenorovirus which mentions conjunctivitis as a possible symptom

That's interesting about Covid Rebound. I was better for a week then wham all the symptoms were back My GP said he thought I'd caught something else in the week I was better but my symptoms are exactly the same.

Either way I've now lost a whole month to this!

The old-fashioned remedy for eye and sinus problems in situations like this was inhaling the steam from dissolved Friar's Balsam. Worth trying - I have found it effective as well as comforting, but make sure you never intend to use the bowl for anything else - it won't wash off.

I’ve tried steam with some olbas oil in the water but it doesn’t seem to have had much effect so far. I’m not sure how often you should do it really. I’m willing to try anything so will have a look for friars balsam.

Fill a bowl with boiling water and some drops of olbas oil. let it cool for a min. Put your head over and drape a towel over your head to create a sealed space. Breath deeply as much as you can and let the steam do its magic.

Whilst we are slowly improving, my husband is still having the night sweats badly. We still have the horrible productive cough so clearly we aren’t better but are the night sweats this long normal?!

Wilsonthedog · 07/01/2026 09:41

Day 10. Still being kept awake at night by the cough and throat and still have no energy. I'm normally an exercise freak to the point where if I've injured myself I'll still go for a run. It hasn't even crossed my mind since this started. I feel so weak, wobbly and lethargic. I can't remember the last time an illness has taken so much out of me.

TheWillToSurvive · 07/01/2026 11:26

Yes, I’ve been ill for almost a week now. DH coughing for about two weeks now. I was actually tested and was positive for metapneumovirus which I had never even heard of. I am having cancer treatment so need to be extra careful.

YourKhakiLeader · 07/01/2026 12:06

I’m on day 2 of this lurg. I’ve had the flu jab because I’m immunocompromised so I hope I get it mildly. The aching and fatigue is unreal 😢

PuppyMonkey · 07/01/2026 12:14

DP had it then gave it to me, both recovered now but DD got mild cough and happened to do a Covid test. Positive. I was curious so did the same. Positive. Even though I feel fine now.

Please see a Dr or call 111 just to make sure you don't need any other treatment.

I’ve just got back from the Dr who says it’s very likely to be influenza which has been very bad this season. He was a bit perplexed with my struggling to breathe and speak because my oxygen levels and other vital statistics were all fine. No sign of pneumonia. I just need to keep resting!

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Oh thanks for letting us know @mechanicalpencil - I’m glad your Oxygen stats are ok x
It’s a very mixed up bloody illness.
Get better soon all.

Yourlifeinyourhands · 07/01/2026 20:06

I can’t believe how much I want to sleep! Have slept on and off all day and then at night since Friday! Have self certified to take this week off work so it’s a relief I don’t have to think about work until next Monday. Husband is the same!

Editing to add am 38 fit and well usually and go to the gym but the thought of walking up the stairs is enough!

CandidLurker · 07/01/2026 20:20

I now have drops for the conjunctivitis- posted through the door by a friend this morning. Still have the sore throat, the tinnitus and cough. But the positive news is I did have a good night’s sleep last night thanks probably to night nurse again. And today I haven’t actually felt so awful that I’m counting the minutes to the next paracetamol or lemsip and definitely a bit more energy. I’m still ill but not as horrendous as I felt up to date 8 so I’m hoping this is the start of me improving.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 07/01/2026 21:52

I’m pretty certain I’ve got Adenovirus rather than flu (got vaccinated). Came down with it last Friday evening after DH had it in between Xmas and NY. So day 5 and feeling as rotten as ever.

Started with the awful hacking cough and painful chest, sight fever and feeling like I’d been hit by a lorry. Monday saw the start of the streaming nose and eyes and the cough is still going strong - my chest and head are killing me. Super painful swollen glands in my neck. Considering a trip to the docs as the cough is now deeper and more productive (and not the nicest of colours) and I have a history of weird and wonderful chest infections.

DH recovered on NYE but is feeling crap again - not as crap as I am so he’s having to take the strain at home a bit. And DD (17) just called on her way back from her boyfriend’s house saying she’s feeling really rough - so that’s 3 for 3.
