I'm interested in all the symptoms and how long one would be infectious for. TIA.

I had it for over a week. Went on to became a chest infection. Fever for 6 days, aching etc. First day without a fever was Christmas Day and over a week later I still have a very irritating cough and I’ve gone off coffee (virtually unheard for me). It literally started the day we broke up school and I’m due back on Monday so all in all a very disappointing holiday ☹️

RobinTheCavewoman · 02/01/2026 18:22

Day 6 for me and at the exhausted stage with a hacking cough and painful glands. So much better than I was but can't do anything- even the thought of a shower is draining! Been watching Superstore all afternoon with DD (who has covid) and now back in bed with a lemsip.

mechanicalpencil · 03/01/2026 13:13

Day 15 for me. Thought I was doing much better so went out for a walk to get some fresh air yesterday for 30 minutes …but this morning awoke to such utter exhaustion I could hardly get out of bed, all the symptoms have come back - cough, wheezy chest, blocked nose/head/sinuses/headache.There have been a couple of times so far when I thought I’d turned a corner, only to find myself worse off the next day. Am supposed to be back at work in Monday and have been ill the whole holiday.

Started on 30/12 so day 5 for me. I have no idea what it is as I haven’t tested for anything but feel awful. I didn’t have a nice Christmas due to some family issues and was looking forward to getting back into a normal routine. I usually walk every day but all I’m capable of doing is moving between bed and the sofa.

letshavetea · 03/01/2026 14:15

Day five for me now. Have managed to shower and get dressed and progress to the sofa. I went to the Dr yesterday due to temp and chest/cough. Wouldn’t prescribe anything. So back to just taking the slow route to recovery like all of you!
Still coughing (especially at night), very congested (sinuses) and sore throat taking paracetamol. Feel weak and wobbly and no appetite.
The fact the Christmas tree is still up is bothering me - so I must be getting a bit better!
Here’s to us all getting better soon.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 03/01/2026 14:27

I've had this for nearly a month, but I got a week off over Christmas and New Year! It started up again yesterday, exactly the same symptoms, and has got loads worse today. I feel utterly horrific, I think this must be the worst cough I've ever had. I'm so tired but I cough really badly every 5 minutes. So I'm in bed but can't sleep.

I'll have Night Nurse tonight, gives a bit of respite.

CandidLurker · 03/01/2026 14:37

Yes I’m very glad I’ve got some Night Nurse in but only enough left for another couple of nights. I’m not drinking coffee which is always a sign of how ill I am. Even my teeth seem to hurt.

Not great tbh. Back at work as felt I had to be and wanted to try but al I can do is sit in between work and bed. Head ache, chest pain, struggling to speak in full sentences. Not fun. Just hanging on for my next day off.

@CandidLurker I'm just the same with coffee. I know I'm on the mend when I switch the coffee machine on first thing.

@TheHillIsMine take it easy! I know from experience how much longer it takes to recover when you don't rest totally. Hope you're feeling much better soon. My dd is kind of fine but her bug has dragged on for about 3 weeks now.

Sorry to hear you're still sick, but also glad to see I'm not alone with the way this seems to come back.

Started feeling off 15th December, thought I would sleep it off. In bed 16th and 17th but was just stomach cramps, tiredness, bit dizzy/lightheaded, palpitations. Went back to work next day delighted I shook it off so fast only to be landed in bed again by Friday feeling awful again. Then had a week off before it took me out with a fever Christmas Day 🙄 not sure if it was a continuation or something different - fever, racing heart with light activity, no appetite, blocked sore ears, headache, sore shoulders and neck. Took me another few days to be anyway normal again. Still getting tired spells. Period arrived yesterday and has smacked me down again with lightheadedness, exhaustion, low appetite, palpitations and generally feeling a bit crappy. Wonder at this stage will it ever end.

Yourlifeinyourhands · 03/01/2026 17:48

It’s got me! My DH started with it on the 23rd with a cough and fever and has been getting worse and better again. Son has had a persistent chesty cough since then. I had a two day migraine and thought that was it but at work I started with a tickly cough but now it’s a full on chesty cough, shivers, aches and can’t get comfy in bed. DH shivering again! It’s a fucker! I’ve never felt this ill before!

TwilightAb · 03/01/2026 18:07

I'm on antibiotics now as this cough is just not shifting. Hopefully I will begin to feel better soon. Day 13 for me!

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 03/01/2026 18:11

It's awful but reading your experiences makes me feel better as I feel so ill and worried I've got pneumonia. But you are all as bad as me so I guess it's just very nasty. I think it's Covid.

Yeah me too. Both my parents have had pneumonia back in October with i think a similar bug.

ChillWith · 03/01/2026 20:43

This cough is terrible. I have been coughing non-stop today and was awake for four hours coughing last night. Nothing is helping - have used lemsip, honey lemon and ginger and broncho stop 😕

My teeth hurt too 😵‍💫. The last time I had sore teeth with a virus was when I had Covid back in 2022.

Ohhh. Mine dont hurt but Ive got bruxism, which Im trying to be mindful of and mentally force myself to stop

Wilsonthedog · 04/01/2026 10:54

I'm on day 7. The cough and throat are an absolute killer; I think I got less than 3 hrs last night as every time I began to drift off I'd get another coughing fit, which would shred up my burnt-feeling throat. I've just got to the snotty stage but still have the headache, stomach ache, congestion and no voice. Plus no appetite and being wiped out by really small tasks. Horrible thing.

I normally wear a mouth guard and had stopped over the past few nights thinking I wouldn’t actually be able to breathe with it in. I probably had immediately started grinding my teeth again. Put the guard in last night and teeth feel ok today. Sadly, I have now run out of night nurse. I live alone so no-one to go and get some for me. Plus it’s sub-zero here so wouldn’t like to ask anyone to go out. I ordered some from Boots to be delivered.

mechanicalpencil · 04/01/2026 11:47

Sorry to read so many of us are still struggling. There definitely seems to be a pattern of feeling better and then worse again, so will echo what others have said about getting plenty of rest and erring on the side of caution - if you think you feel better, give yourself an extra day or so of rest before slowly getting back into your routine.
Hope we are all feeling better soon!

mechanicalpencil · 04/01/2026 11:49

Sorry, forgot to update: Day 16 for me, 3rd day of migraine, still blocked nose, wheezy chest, tired, aching, blocked head and sinuses.

kateandsam · 04/01/2026 12:04

I think I've had this for 3 or 4 weeks now. Thought I was recovering a couple of times, but then feeling bad again. I don't think my recovery has been helped as I have had to work over Christmas ( I'm a cat sitter so it's my busiest time).

My cough is still bad but over the past few days I've developed a rash on the back of one of my legs which is really quite odd (almost psoriasis like), which I've never had before & is very itchy.

Has anyone else had this symptom?

lingmerth · 04/01/2026 12:20

I’m just getting over it. What has shocked me is how contagious it’s been. My son in law started one day, my daughter the next, granddaughter day after, then me and husband the following day. Like ten pin skittles!

This is my fear that it’s going to go on for ages. I’ve already cancelled a few things this week coming as I know I won’t be well enough. Fortunately I’m retired so don’t have the stress of work on top. Feel sorry for people who have to negotiate all that as well as feeling hideous
