I'm interested in all the symptoms and how long one would be infectious for. TIA.

Yep, started with a sore throat Christmas Eve. By Christmas Day afternoon felt very rough. Next 3 days was bedbound- chills, body aches, cold sweats, sore throat, congestion, headache and blocked ears. It’s now a week on from when I first got symptoms and im still very congested, headache, complete loss of taste and smell and a hacking cough which hurts my chest. But at least i can get out of bed and get on with normal stuff. It’s been horrendous; never want this again!

MrsJLevinson · 31/12/2025 13:34

Managed to drag myself in the shower this morning, and put a load of washing on. Still got a hacking cough and lack of energy…

ChillWith · 31/12/2025 15:04

@TheHillIsMine my parents have exactly the same symptoms as you and I am sure it is covid/flu. Get yourself into bed and rest. Hope you are feeling much better soon.

Ebok1990 · 31/12/2025 15:12

Had all the usual symptoms for over a week now. Felt well enough to get dressed yesterday but woke up this morning with the most horrific sickness and diarrhea. Have stopped being sick but have the most awful nausea. Feel absolutely wretched.

Peclet · 31/12/2025 15:36

I’ve come back to bed. My head hurts like crazy and my legs feel heavy and achey.

I am so fed up of this illness.

DH has got some plans for this evening. So I am being pleased about that.

I've just got back from nine hours at the hospital. Bloods, X-ray, ECG. Diagnosis is I've got a virus and told to take paracetamol.

Still not sure what to do about work on Thursday.

You poor thing I think you should stay in bed.

Sleepasaurus · 31/12/2025 15:39

I feel horrendous. Every part of me hurts.

tsmainsqueeze · 31/12/2025 15:47

I'm into week 4 , i think it was the flu which i have never had before ,it came on very quickly ,all the usual symptoms and i was completely floored.
I was pretty much bed ridden for the 1st 3 days ,i was also dizzy .
Now almost one month later i am still having days of feeling total exhaustion and generally unwell.
I think it is foolish to attempt to work with these symptoms ,apart from the fact you are likely contagious you stand the chance of becoming really ill with prolonged symptoms by not staying home to rest .

Andtheworldwentwhite · 31/12/2025 16:17

I’m on day one and not encouraged by the everyone on this thread that are saying it goes on for days ! I’m starving with it.

A third of the office have had something awful, but I seem to have dodged it so far. Fingers crossed the kids don't bring it back from school next week

Younginside · 31/12/2025 17:31

So sorry everyone's feeling awful. Especially that it's morphing into D&V!! I've been in bed for days with nose streaming, coughing constantly and feeling exhausted, but fingers crossed just started to feel a bit more human this afternoon. Lots of hot drinks, lemsip and so on... utterly fed up with it now though, so I really feel for everyone who's been suffering for weeks. Mine started on Boxing Day

baroqueandblue · 31/12/2025 17:53

Was fortunate to get a phone appointment with my GP. He's erring on the side of caution and, assuming mine has become a sinus infection, prescribed me doxycycline. (I can't take penicillin.) Just had the first dose.

Actually managed to have a shower and went out again for shopping this morning, but halfway round the supermarket I felt everything hit me again and couldn't get home quick enough. Been in bed since. Like you @Sleepasaurus I hurt all over, I only know I have certain body parts at the moment because they're so achy and sore!

Sending 💐 to everyone still struggling with this, it's brutal.

IveLostMyUsername · 31/12/2025 18:07

Problem I had with this flu is I started feeling better so I went and did something. Then I ended up back in bed the next day because I was so tired and achy. Look after yourselves with this one and don't push yourselves to do stuff because it backfires.

DeanElderberry · 31/12/2025 18:25

I am also in week 4, started on Saturday 6th, probably infected by multiple people at a very crowded community event on Thursday 4th. Vaccinated, so allegedly have a mild form, slightly complicated by asthma.

I had hardly any appetite for the first ten days, and now that I'm eating again I have some gut issues. Crusted eyes, mild dizziness, aches and pains, wheezing, terrible 'elderly cow' cough, sleeping nine hours a night.

Such fun.

letshavetea · 31/12/2025 18:35

I have been in bed now for three days. Achey, sore throat, earache, sneezing, coughing and headache. Slightly queasy too. My friend (who I haven’t seen since the 23rd) has it too and has just had to have antibiotics for a chest infection. So if it carries on into sinuses and chest I won’t hesitate to ring the GP (who aren’t very responsive at the best of times!). Apparently this year’s flu jab isn’t covering the current virus.
I’ve got a holiday booked for March and am glad it’s not now because I wouldn’t be fit to fly!

Peclet · 01/01/2026 16:59

Day 8 I think. I went for a walk today and ate a normal amount of food.

had a short sleep this afternoon.

still snotty and weak but feeling so much better.

Andtheworldwentwhite · 02/01/2026 10:22

day three and I’m still feeling the same. Gutted. I have been on holiday from work and it has all been wasted.

May I ask what an 'elderly cow' cough is please?!

Younginside · 02/01/2026 14:00

Just wanted to offer a cautious note of optimism and say that today I have some energy at last (day 8). Yesterday I felt a lot better but still very tired. No particular regime except lots of hot drinks and soup, easy going telly and plenty of sleep! And cold meds to help with the latter. Hope others are starting to feel better too 🤗I'm lucky to be retired, and able to lie about all day without being required to do anything

ThisLuckyOpalShaker · 02/01/2026 14:11

I was totally wiped out for 5 days then taken another 7 days for the cough, fatigue and loss of appetite to go. Ruined xmas, never had a virus take so long to go or to affect my appetite so badly. Still feel turned at the thought of some food

PistachioTiramisu · 02/01/2026 14:15

Day 10 here - started with a bad sore throat on Christmas Eve - was completely wiped out on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The weekend was just as bad, but started to feel a bit better on Monday which has continued during this week. My nose is still producing rivers of mucus and I have a 40 a day style cough and wheezing which I can't clear! It's really horrible. Didn't eat any of the lovely food I had bought for Christmas and that really annoys me!

Guidanceplease20 · 02/01/2026 14:21

Yes, all 4 of us got it.

I dont know if its flu though as two of is had flu jabs and one had the covid jab.

Sore throat, runny nose, headaches, cough, fatigue and achy. Two had reflux when trying to sleep when they never suffer from it normally. One thought it was going to their chest at one point. The two younguns in their 20s sprung back after about 5 days. The two oldies in their 50s (but covered by flu and covid jabs) are still fatigued, blocked up, and suffering a bit after 10 days although definitely on the mend.

25flyby · 02/01/2026 16:24

Not flu but I got a cold with hacking cough, very snotty and zero energy from Christmas Eve onwards. Still got the cough, snot and dead tired but not feeling unwell as such.
