Congratulations cosit on the safe arrival of your new nephew and niece. Glad to hear it all turned out ok for your sis. Must be hard when you are so far away - will you be able to get over there to see her ?

Hi iwal - sorry to hear that your dd is still suffering with grazed hands. Does it mean she can get out of the sats or are they just postponed ? My ds is home educated - well he goes to an online college now, so I am out of the loop with regards to sats.

Iworryalot · 13/05/2008 21:28

Hi there how you both doing ?

Winetime , How does it work with your son home education , do you teach him to ?
My DD would love to be at home she hates her school ,she is changing schools in september as she has been quite unhappy the last year .
I think the sats are to much especially at her age shes only 7/8 and is worrying about tests ......angry]
unfortunatley she will have to sit tests when she returns to school ......
i dont think they should sit any tests till at secondry school . let them be children for as long as poss , i was still making mud pies at 13 in my back garden ..... and loved it ...lol

rant over sorry

Hi IWAL and winetime.....dont know when I will get over to see my sister, because the cost to take us all over would be jsut too much ..hopefully next year she will be home to Ireland and I will go back home and see her tehn...It is difficult wehn we are so far apart, but we email daily and speak a couple of times a week and we just have to be happy with that.

IWAL....right...jsut for clarification are you saying BM are back to normal and not quissy and undigested food at all??? and the oil film is there also..jsut trying to understand also..are you eating well??

Winetimeisfinetime · 14/05/2008 10:46

Hi iwal - I used to teach my ds but now he is taught full time at his internet school. I agree that 7 is too young for testing - I generally feel that school starts too early anyway and like you that they should be allowed to be kids for as long as possible. When we first started HE we were seen as quite radical but in tha last few years it has become a much more acceptable and popular option.

About your bowel symptoms - I can't say as I have ever noticed any oiliness as you describe. Do you have a particular worry about what it might be a symptom of ? I am no expert but I am not aware of it being symptomatic of anything other than perhaps relating to your diet ? Do you keep a food diary { and BM diary !} and wondered of you did you might see a pattern emerging ? It might also be useful to show your dr when you go for you follow up appt.It stands to reason that if you eat anything oily it is probably going to affect your BM. It's positive that things are returning to normal after Friday - sounds like what a healthy bowel would do !

Try not to worry about it if you possibly can - so difficult I know but you have your plan in place to sort this out and I'm sure it will be sorted out.
Love
Winetime xx

Hi cosit - x posts there !

Iworryalot · 14/05/2008 10:51

thanks , and cosit yes eating well i think no undigested food till soft though ,looked up google now scared ....
could it be i cant absorb fat ?

OP posts:
Winetimeisfinetime · 14/05/2008 10:51

Just realised as you posted at 10.21 it must have taken me over 25 minutes to type my message as your post wasn't there when I started- well that did include getting a cup of tea but still that is incredibly slow !

Winetimeisfinetime · 14/05/2008 10:52

IWAL - have you been losing lots of unexplained weight ?

Iworryalot · 14/05/2008 10:54

no weight loss ,

OP posts:
Winetimeisfinetime · 14/05/2008 11:01

Because you would think if there was a problem with fat absorption you would lose weight. That's what some diet pills do to help you lose weight, which is why I thought of that.

I think it is best not to Google symptoms, if at all possible, as you always, whatever your symptoms, end up seeing things that are scary but have no idea if they are relevant to you or not. When are you due to go back to your dr for a follow up ?

Iworryalot · 14/05/2008 11:02

waiting for appt next friday i think

OP posts:
Winetimeisfinetime · 14/05/2008 11:03

Is that at the hospital or with your gp ?

Iworryalot · 14/05/2008 11:05

hospital

OP posts:
Winetimeisfinetime · 14/05/2008 11:17

I would make sure that you are well prepared for the appt by writing dowm all the things that are worrying you about this to ask the dr at the appt. But if you feel that you are so stressed about it in the meantime maybe pop and see your gp and talk over your concerns ? I find that if I have an appt even if it is a little way ahead it helps to stop me worrying as I console myself that I have done all I can about the problem, I'm being sensible about my health and am actively managing the situation. I still worry but not in such a paniced way - it becomes a bit more of a background worry. If it something that I am still stressed about - like whem I first found out I may have heart problems, I nipped to see my gp before my next consultants appt, to talk things over with him. It probably depends on how you get on with your gp but it might help to settle some of your worries

Iworryalot · 14/05/2008 11:23

they think im nuts im sure could be an enzime in not producing to my pancreas .....

Hi IWAL and winetime...not disappeared MIL and me chitty chatting on the phone...

Right.... I have had this in the past and occasionally still do ..but it never worries me now as I know exactly what it is with me now. If I eat too much high fat foods this is what happens in the next few days with my BM. Did you eat butter, chips, fried foods, cheese??....etc etc anything like that over the last few days. I think winetime has a good point make a food diary and a BM diary and see if there is a causal link. HTH x

Iworryalot · 14/05/2008 11:35

have been trying to write things down , dont think i eat that much fat , hve olive spreed , had little BBQ food on sat pm
yogurts , milk ,
eggs , brown bread , did have parmazan on pasta last night ..
if i didnt have a spot light above my loo id never know i had this going on ......

OP posts:
cositjustisok · 14/05/2008 11:50

Do you think maybe it is possible that you are focusing on this film because you are worried about it and therefore noticing it more....just a thought that it probably happens most people but they dont know cos never bother to look. Hope that not sound crap but if the doctor told you it was normal would this allow you to stop looking at your BM ....I used to be a pooh watcher until I msade myself stop looking and just flush

Iworryalot · 14/05/2008 11:56

i know , i didnt use to look that much till gastro man asked on our first meeting then i did look and saw clear oil on top , he did say do you have any oil droplets when you have a motion i said no cos i hadnt really looked , but now im worried , what am i like ........

OP posts:
Winetimeisfinetime · 14/05/2008 12:02

I think you should maybe get rid of the light above the loo for now. I know all about constantly checking - I was like this when I had some blood in my BM - I got to the point, once I had my appt to see someone about it that I had to just force myself to quickly flush and not look.

Trying to get this into perspective - lets look at the positives:

The test showed a healthy bowel - no nasties were found. I think that rules out the most sinister cause of bowel problems.

Your bowel has recovered well from the procedure

The worst case scenarios you are now coming up with, which have only arisen from Goggling, not that any medical person has suggested them, so are in all likelihood not even applicable to you, all sound like treatable, nonlife threatening conditions.

You are going to get to see a dr { is it a gastroenterologist } next week to hopefully get a diagnosis and will get the opportunity to put all your worries to rest

If you feel that next Friday is too long to wait we have Plan B which is to see your gp in the meantime who can hopefully settle some of your worries

I'm afraid that if I am really worried I do go to my gp and have had to accept that he probably thinks I am a bit nuts. I have discussed my anxieties with him and I think over time we have built up a relationship where he understands how I am . That is one of the positives of seeing so much of him!

Iworryalot · 14/05/2008 12:08

Thanks winetime ,your talking sense again , just when i get something in my head i cant stop worrying ,and googling scared the life out of me .
will try to get a grip , think doc will only say wait till you ess gasto doc and talk to him .
sorry to be a pain x
