I think my sister may have been tested for Addisons a few years ago - she had TB { of the glands } as a child and a few years ago her thyroid virtually packed up which they think may have been linked to the TB. All the females in the family have thyroid problems - I have an underactive one and take Thyroxine. Have you had your TSH levels checked ? Most gps don't seem to understand that even if results fall within the 'normal' range it may not be normal for you and most people function better with a TSH less than 1. All I know about Addisons really is that it is thought Jane Austen had it { so only really refined talented people get it and that whilst it is very successfully treated these days, it wasn't in her day.

Yes that's a good idea to try and massage my cardios ego and get him on side. He seems like a nice chap but does tend to never stop talking or give straight answers to questions.

cositjustisok · 09/05/2008 21:13

So agree what you mean about normal for you when talking about Thyroid probs....I have got thyroid antibodies..have known this for about the last 6 years when my gastro mentioned it in passing!!! and have a TSH of approx 3.2 (climbing slowly over the years...does this mean anything???) but apparantly I have no probs re thyroids so the docs all say. So my Gastro has requested these Addison tests and that is my "new Illness" ..ooh how I laugh cos i am adding autoimmune diseases every couple of years.... anyway will catch up more tomorrow DH wanting the computer for his games ..speakie more tomorrow winetime...hope you have opened the bar by now

Winetimeisfinetime · 09/05/2008 22:22

Hi - just wrestled the computer back from my dh !

TSH of 3.2 I think is within the normal range but there was some 'best practice' thingie in the BMJ a year or two ago, which recommends that anything over 2 ought to be treated. So my gp is now happy to treat with thyroxine if TSH is 2 or over.{I will research that if you want me to and get the full details } and ime {albeit fairly limited } 3.2 is quite high. When I was seeing an endocrinologist re my hypothyrodism he liked the TSH level to be below 1. I had to fight tooth and nail originally to get treatment as my TSH was right at the upper end of the normal range. There is some quite convincing evidence out there that the normal ranges that are used are fairly meaningless - you have to take account of how you are feeling and whether you have any symptoms. It may well be that your thyroid is a bit underactive and that's contributing to how you are feeling.

cositjustisok · 10/05/2008 06:01

Thankyou for that offer winetime, but I am trying to read as little as possible about my thyroid cos makes no difference as doctor has told me it is more than his job is worth to start treating my thyroid..so the information would jsut make me worry why it is not being treated..hope you understand that, but thankyou for the thinking of me.

IWAL, hope you had a nice evening worry free and full of relief Have you been ok this morning.?

Hope you both have a good day today.

Iworryalot · 10/05/2008 08:24

OP posts:
cositjustisok · 10/05/2008 10:24

Hi IWAL.....descriptions are good, all seems fine so that is good news...You will be hungry if you ate very little yesterday AND had a big clearout!!!

I am good this morning ..busy baking bread and getting kids ready for a bike ride...MIL on her way up for a visit so need to quickly scoot around the house and tidy up ..just so she thinks we dont live like pigs. Will catch up later.

The undigested food could well jsut be foods that everybody struggle to digest..like corn or peas, tom skins etc etc....or is it other stuff...now i am gettin grahic..sorry but just trying to get a better pic of your poops ..so I can help of course!!!

Keep feeling positive. HAve a nice day. x

Iworryalot · 10/05/2008 10:47

Winetimeisfinetime · 10/05/2008 15:27

So sorry cosit if I have caused you any extra concern about your thyroid situation - it was thoughtless of me to bash on about it like that. I get a bit evangelical about TSH levels having spent so many years trying to get mine under comtrol and tend to want to spread the word. Really sorry - last thing I want to do is add to any health worries you might have.

And tbh, after all my efforts I have found that I don't really feel that different being on quite a high dose of thyroxine for 6 or 7 years now. So getting my TSH level down wasn't the cure for all my various symptoms that I thought were thyroid related anyway.

Hi IWAL - glad to hear you had a good nights sleep.

cositjustisok · 11/05/2008 06:51

Winetime...it is absolutely fine..you did not cause me any more worry..honestly you where just trying to help and that is all I took out of it..{{hugs}}..Interesting what you say about the symptoms that you did think where thyroid related probably weren't..that has always been a concern of mine if they did treat me. Think over the years I have accepted that my thyoid is not the reason for my ailments...just thought cause I had antibodies etc that it "must" be the reason.

IWAL I dont think the piles would be the reason for loose BM. I think they are somewhat unrelated. Well for me anyway. How have you been so far after the procedure on Friday?..Keep up with the healthy eating and exercise and plenty of water. Hopefully with the all clear you got on Friday things may be on the road to improving .

Got house tidied up in super fast time.... hubby decided to take the girls out on their bikes for a ride so he wasn't here to help so me and my son did all downstairs in about 20 mins..dusting polishing etc etc. When they arrived they came around the side of the house as could hear children in the garden. So never came in to the house at all!!!!!...and the garden was a tip as dh had broken the strimmer and only mowed the lawn and I had not attacked the weeds as was too busy enjoying the sun all week!!!..so my task was fruitless. They are absolutely lovely and I am blessed to have them. After all they come to see us and the kids not a tidy house and garden .

Hope you both have a nice day today.

Iworryalot · 11/05/2008 08:37

Morning hope your both alright and enjoying the sun shine ....hasnt it been lovely .....
Had a nice time yesterday went to bye the children new bikes one has a Birthday next month and the other just had his so they wanted new bikes ,although my DD took a real tumble yesterday and badly grazed herself ,on palms ,knees she was screaming ........poor thing managed to bandage her up but no bike riding for her today .....put it in a sling now not that its that bad but shes feeling very sorry for herself and thinks this makes all the difference (bless) think tonight a good soak in the bath will do the trick ...
anyway more BM talk for you ..... all been fine BM today better than yesterday ,not any differant than before SP ,bit softer but not watery , i do think hear we go ....i might have intolerance to something as BM never all in one and smooth and glossy , i do eat alot of fibre and whilemeal bread so can see that kind of texture if that makes sense ..
along with the clear oil sometimes lying on the top ...
there are times that not so bad think does depend that im eating and of course the stress levels im having ....
Hope you both have a good day ,catch up when you can xx

Winetimeisfinetime · 11/05/2008 14:45

Hi Cosit and Iwal. Glad to hear I hadn't upset you cosit - I've been feeling a bit worried about it. Sounds like you had a nice time with your mil - it's good to hear of someone who has a good relationship with their ILs.

IWAL - have you ever tried acidophilus for your bowel problems ? It consists of the good bacteria that should live in your bowel. I sometimes take it as I can't eat dairy products so can't eat yoghurt with probiotics but I think that acidophilus has a much higher concentration of good bacteria than yoghurt does, anyway - I find if I take any antibiotics that cause diarrhoea as a side effect the acidophilus stops it almost straight away. I just wonder if it might be worth trying as if you are getting looseish BM on a regular basis it may be that you are losing alot of the good bacteria from your bowel and that could be perpetuating the looseness.Just thought it was worth mentioning - as it is natural, even if it does no good I don't think it is going to make anything worse. You can get it from lots of chemists now and Holland and Barrett do it too.

The weather is absolutely beautiful here { coastal NE England } and my ds has asked if we can put the above ground pool up - It is a horrible job but great when it is done and you can spend hot sunny days floating around in it on lilos. I am being a bit weedy and using my 'heart' issues as an excuse for not getting involved in the heavy lifting but am supervising from the sidelines.Luckily my ds is now bigger and stronger than me anyway so is more than able to help his dad.

Hope you are both having a good day too - speak soon xx

Iworryalot · 11/05/2008 17:11

Hi wine time , thanks for advice ,hope your enjoying the sunshine , pool sound a good idea , we have had sprinkle hop scotch outside or my 2 children they have had a ball in it ,fun to watch to .
The acidophilus you mentioned is it a tablet ? will have a look in boots when im next out , to be honest i will try anything if it may help , as i said before all was fine before this bug i had, then i did also have a course of antibiotics which may not have helped .
I also wondered that last year i had the dreaded thrush about 3 times and took pills for that , could that have not helped i wonder think imbalance could be going on , or intolarance maybe , or just IBS so should stop wondering and fretting ......again .....
Hope your ok
x

cositjustisok · 11/05/2008 18:37

good evening IWAL and Winetime..hope you both had a good day today. I think I have heard of those tablets you are talking about Winetime and one of the mums at the school takes something for her IBS and swears by them... never even thought of that until you mentioned the name..I will probably see her one day this week (see works so not always there) I will ask her what it is she takes in tablet form. she was having terrible bother a few years ago and after a few weeks all harmony returned, she now takes them daily cos is afraid not to..even though she is unsure if she still needs them. I do remember her saying they where quite expensive but worth it as she too is dairy intolerant.

BTW winetime I am in the NE not to far from the coast..where d you live..if that is not to rude . The pool sounds huge is it?? good fun I bet though .

IWAL...any wonder your having a few bowel probs!!!! all that last year could be the reason your bowels are bothersome. I will get the name for you and post a link to were she buys them from. What age are your children and is it boys or girls..I have 4 2 boys and 2 girls ....boys are 13 and almost 3 and girls are 8 and 11. Winetime how many kids have you als..sorry but I am such a nosey so and so in case you hadn't guessed by now.

Winetimeisfinetime · 11/05/2008 18:41

Hi IWAL - it's funny that you mention thrush as I think that acidophilus can be good for that too - as it can be related to a bacterial imbalance. I certainly don't think acidophilus will do you any harm - my ds and I both take it if we have upset tummies. I usually buy it online actually as it tends to be cheaper - I do know that you can get it in Holland and Barrett if you are ever near one - I would think that Boots should have it too but have never looked for it there. You can either get it as capsules, tablets or a powder - I think the tablets/capsules are better and you need to keep it in the fridge once it is open.

Hope it is helpful for you.Maybe have a Google for acidophilus and see what you think - don't usually like Googling things but I don't think you will trawl up anything worrying for acidophilus.

I assume that you will be having a follow up appt. with dr to discuss results of Friday's test and what happens next re managing your symptoms ?

Winetimeisfinetime · 11/05/2008 18:56

Hi cosit - I just have my ds, he is 13 and will be 14 in a couple of weeks. I am very envious of you having 4 children as I would have dearly loved more but had several miscarriages after my ds { I think these were part of why my health anxiety started }and then lost my nerve really. We live in NE Lincs - where are you ? The pool is nice - it is not huge but big enough to swim a few strokes and float about in. We've had it quite a few years now and it has been good value for what it cost.

Iworryalot · 11/05/2008 18:57

Hi winetime , thanks for advice on pills and will investigate and mention to my doc on follow up appt .iI dont think i have thrush anymore but was bad last year , i had a coil fitted after DS and all was good till last year started having V heavy P and bout and bouts of thrush , then last year had it removed ,i also was bit low in iron /ferritin cos of heavy P ,so since then p. been alot better , and seem to be thrush free .....hope x youv had a good weekend .x

Hi cosit , be interested to here what your friend says about tablets winetime has recommended ,my children are boy 6 and girl almost 8 where have the years gone ....
and wow you must have your hands full with 4 children , do they all get along ?xx

OP posts:
cositjustisok · 11/05/2008 19:15

Winetime about your miscarriages {{{hugggles for winetime}}}...4 kids is really lovely but hardwork..would have loved more!!!!!...but realise I am being really greedy then and age not on my side my mum had 3 miscariages and I was old enough to remember how she was it is just so unfair, so sorry I even mentioned kids now....

On alighter note I used to live in Barton Upon Humber....that is N Lincs....it was oir first house after we married I woked in Scunthorpe and Hubby in Hull..lived for over 6 years there..and was so happy now up in Newcastle and love it here too.

IWAL..well cant say they get on ALL THE TIME..but generally they are great together but there are moments when I wonder why they just cant get along..my 8 year old is the one always in the middle of everything. I always here her shouting......MUM........hope she grows out of it ...think my other DD was much the same at that age!!!! Do yours get along???

WIll be having tea shortly so have not disappeared will be about later...if the children dont snaffle the computer

Winetimeisfinetime · 11/05/2008 19:28

That's a bit of a spooky coincidence cosit - we live here because my dh works near Barton - place called Wootton. Well that is where the finance dept of his firm is so he spends a few days a week there but does a lot of travelling to the other offices, especially London and Edinburgh. He has worked in Hull in the past too.

cositjustisok · 11/05/2008 19:35

WOW winetime..what a small world ..I used to go to a wee coffee shop with my friend in Wooton.....still keep in touch with my friends from Barton ...oooh the memories..sorry have to go grubs up!!!!!...speakie later gals x

Iworryalot · 11/05/2008 19:35

OP posts:
Winetimeisfinetime · 11/05/2008 19:48

Thnaks for the hugs Iwal and cosit - The miscarriages were a long time ago and I'm ok now but it is still upsetting when I think about it and what might have been. I think I also feel disappointed with myself that I didn't keep trying - it definitely feels like there's space in our family that should have been filled.

That's a bit of a coincidence too IWAL that your sis lives near Beverley - that's not far from here at all. I feel that we live in the back of beyond here so it's funny that you both have connections to the area. I would much rather live in Sussex like you do Iwal.

Iworryalot · 11/05/2008 20:06

well winetime , do you live far from North Dalton /beverly , will be coming for visit in summer hols im sure ,could maybe meet ? have no dates as yet but talking bout it .
where you are is lovely to im sure , i do feel my sister is out in the sticks , we stayed at the Beverly Arms HOtel late last year which was great ,but took 30 min to get to my sisters ,every where seems to always take 30 min through windy roads , but always seems longer if you dont know where your going .....
south is lovely we live near forest so great for walking our dog, but i do love to come to the north everyone is so friendly .

OP posts:
Winetimeisfinetime · 11/05/2008 20:44

We live the other side of the Humber IWAL, so we're about 45 minutes from Beverley. Yes definitley could meet up when you come over if you have time - perhaps we could tempt cosit down from Newcastle too ?

Iworryalot · 11/05/2008 20:48

wow that would be great

OP posts:
Winetimeisfinetime · 11/05/2008 20:54

Yes it would

What type of dog do you have iwal ? We have 3 dogs - we had 2 and then at Christmas had to take in my mums dachshund puppy as she couldn't cope with her. Our other 2 are Boston Terriers.
