For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Phew!! I find this so complicated! Whilst copying/pasting, etc. I have accumulated a pottyful of wee and 2 drumsticks. BUT, dd1 has just presented me with a mug of freshly squeezed mandarin juice
So, with my apple, sultanas and dates that makes 4!

I just had a filling.
Hate dentists.
Am still numb and cross. Have had jaw ache and dentist said it's not a tooth problem, which is good, but the muscle in my jaw is swollen and not sure why.

Haven't eaten anything yet today, thinking about it but not until I can guarantee chewing.

I am a wimp actually.

lullabyloo · 10/03/2008 12:25

poor you
i loathe the dentist....i am a far greater wimp

Hello am new to your thread .. would like to ask you all something if I may..

Vegetables. Do you buy fresh every day, is frozen as good, do you have delivery, do you find yourselves with mounds of veg and fruit you haven't time to get through.. and do you find it easy to prepare and cook so much fresh or do you spend much more time in the kitchen than before?

It's a lot of questions I know, I'm sorry, but when on a veg splurge I find myself constantly in the kitchen and not doing much else. Also with such a large number of veg to cook, do you cook in bulk and then keep for meals the next day, as it seems to me a huge faff to cook tiny amounts of different things.

I shop every day, so shopping, cooking, serving up and eating 10 portions a day every day would take up almost all my time.

Thanks for any info on how you manage it..

stiffit · 10/03/2008 13:37

ps I am absolutely not trying to infiltrate a la Cod. Can we pretend it's Thursday and that's all over.

SauerKraut · 10/03/2008 13:40

Hello!
Tomato, carrot, chicory, banana, pear, dates.
Horrible, Boco. Sympathies. My favourite post- dentist indulgence is milky coffee and well-dipped biscuits. I always reckon it's deserved.
A horse has moved into the next door apartment and I am wussily scared. Well actually it's a humungous dog of some well-known breed or other. A notice has appeared on the door saying "Beware. Don't let your cat out!" Our cat has always wandered around the building and often sleeps on the stairs so I don't know whether or not to get snooty about that or to shut up about it and trade our daily piano, violin, trombone and 4 dcs' general racket against freedom for the horse.

FrannyandZooey · 10/03/2008 13:42

oh lordy I meant the photo for 100
don't know where it is anyway
(it was in a magazine LOL)

stiffit hello and welcome
I get veg box delivery once a fortnight and top up in between. I found when we got veg delivered every week it was too much of a struggle for me to think of things to do with chard. This way I don't get so much stuff left over, although we do tend to have to do a beetroot fest about once a month before it all goes fluffy.

I do also buy frozen stuff such as peas and corn which is handy for a quick meal for ds and friends or whatever.

I do a mixture of bulk cooking (just made stew which should make 5 days worth) and put in freezer, and stuff that is easy and quick to make on the day eg salad, stir fry, pasta, frittata etc. I usually make enough for leftovers the next day even with a quick meal.

why do you shop every day, just out of interest?

FrannyandZooey · 10/03/2008 13:43

LOL stiffit we don't care about being infiltrated

blimey SK! I would be worried about dcs with a dog like that around, but I am not fond of dogs, except for Johnny Jet of course

lullabyloo · 10/03/2008 13:47

magazine??????

FrannyandZooey · 10/03/2008 13:49

am friends with editor of a hair magazine
she got a load of us on one of those makeover thingummybobs

SauerKraut · 10/03/2008 13:50

I am slightly worried about the dcs but am presuming the owner wouldn't be so stupid as to risk anything and thankfully we have 2 doors so I shall start making them all use the other one which means they won't encounter the horse in the hall. It's just the cat who wanders around as it pleases, encouraged by all the other inhabitants, but now obviously at risk of being eaten!

lullabyloo · 10/03/2008 13:52

ahhhhhhhhhhhh

Tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot
Ds has his mixing bowl ready & is cross legged on the floor waiting for you
Is this friend a 100 too mummy?

stiffit · 10/03/2008 14:03

Thanks Franny I shop every day as have tiny wee fridge .. also I found I was chucking loads of stuff out if I did a huge shop at the weekend, plus organic does go off quicker. I have a trolley maybe once a month I plan, buy, and cook every day and it does take up time, esp if cooking puddings as well, plus doing a bake. I'm not even that interested in food except as the functional healthy thing! Can't believe you can buy veg every two weeks and it keeps! I have about 40 kilo of apples in cold storage at the moment, supposed to last until the summer, but am having to make lots of apple cakes, crumbles stews sauces etc to use up as they are going over.

Do you swap recipes as well as encouragement on the 10-10 front?

FrannyandZooey · 10/03/2008 14:18

stiffit only the root veg etc will keep for any decent length of time - any salad etc will get eaten more or less straight away and then replaced in the second week
could you put veg with your apples or somewhere else cool and dry? it doesn't all need to be in the fridge

we do share recipes and I am sure there is a thread somewhere....but will ask TooT or someone else clever if they know where?

FrannyandZooey · 10/03/2008 14:21

have eaten 2 satsumas
shared a small salad which ds made by himself [proud]

stiffit · 10/03/2008 14:22

thanks I will look out for it! you know what i'd really like, a sort of online cook-in ..

I have a cellar but it's rather a dungeon.

Am going to check in regularly.
