Hiya, OJ!

fortyplus · 06/03/2008 21:41

Hi OJ - lovely to hear a bit of good news!

Can you get hold of SW team leader? I have friend who is one and when my dad was dying we talked about bringing him home and it took my friend 2 days to sort out £17K allocated to him. Now my dad was on a shorter ticket than Steve but needed 24hr care, so I don't know how long the money would've lasted. In the end dad was unconscious most of the time so we felt it would be too stressful for him to be moved (various reasons I won't go into).

I wonder if the reluctance to allocate money to Steve is because it's financial year end - there'll be plenty available from 1st April.

Ask the question and make them squirm - it shouldn't matter what time of year it is for a dying man to get some quality time at home with his family!

triplets · 06/03/2008 21:57

Hi Oj,
Such good news you have given us today, hope Steve has got all the pringles out, and his bed is too scratchy, you know how that annoys!

mummylin2495 · 06/03/2008 22:06

glad to see that the tumour has not got any worse.About time you had a bit of good news.I also hope that the carers are soon sorted out so you can have steve home.

onlyjoking9329 · 06/03/2008 23:20

Izabella, your email didn't offend, far from it, i just am having problems with my pc, it seems that it works ok until i download emails then it shuts down, i can get my emails throu my phone but i cant reply from my phone, if you email me your mobile number or add my email to your MSN i can contact you that way.
i have someone coming to fit the blinds tomorrow and then we just have to wait for the hozzie bed to come then that is everything sorted this end then i have to push for everyone else to do their bit whilst Steve spends time that he doesn't have much of waiting for the very slow coggs to turn.

triplets · 06/03/2008 23:29

It must be so very frustrating Oj, and as you say, such a waste of precous time.

onlyjoking9329 · 06/03/2008 23:37

well time is not something Steve has to waste is it, it makes me angry to be honest.

triplets · 06/03/2008 23:40

It must do, because the awful thing is if you were celebrities or rolling in money then it would be a different ball game, it is just not fair.

fortyplus · 06/03/2008 23:41

I really don't think the medical profession is all that great at dealing with dying people and their families. I mean - it's sort of embarrassing for them, isn't it? Their whole raison d'etre is to make people better and some people are just so inconsiderate they go and get things that can't be cured.

bossybritches · 07/03/2008 06:51

You're right 40+ & the families of said patients are usually so tied up in caring for their LO's, physically AND emotionally, & just getting through the awful situation they are in, that they have no energy left for fighting the red-tape.

Sadly though Oj these days in the NHS you have to jump up & down a bit to get heard.

Who is the head of purse-strings for this budget -if you could get a name we could mount an MN campaign & do a few (hundred) "Disgusted of Mumsnet" type letters.

onlyjoking9329 · 07/03/2008 06:53

how sad that it all comes down to money, steves chemo has been stopped which is saving the NHS money.
the hospice is wonderful and they deal with people who are dying all the time. According to steves mum he is so much better cos he has some colour in his face, thats cos he has a tempreture.

bossybritches · 07/03/2008 08:40

Joins OJ in biting of lip......

OJ ponders on whether the NHS will fund the surgery to rectify the bite marks on my lips and the many many holes in my tounge

LilRedWG · 07/03/2008 09:34

Morning OJ! Hoping that you get some good news (and your blinds and hospital bed) today!

onlyjoking9329 · 07/03/2008 10:03

just had phone call to say the guy who came out on monday to meausure up for my blinds has been sacked he had messed up our order and lots of others

fryalot · 07/03/2008 10:05

fucking hell, oj. You don't need this on top of everything else.

Are they sorting it out as soon as poss? Do they know the circumstances? Do you want me to ring them and swear at them?

onlyjoking9329 · 07/03/2008 10:09

they do know the situation i have made them very aware, the bloke was lovely and very apologetic for the hassle, they have reordered the right blinds now and are coming on thursday morning at ten, they have knocked £100 off the bill, thing is if i don't use this company i will have to start again from the beginning which will take even longer to sort,

fryalot · 07/03/2008 10:28

and I suppose, being realistic, they are sorting it out, with what will hopefully be a minimum of fuss from now...

thestands · 07/03/2008 10:56

Thursday! they should be bending over backwards to help you.

bossybritches · 07/03/2008 11:01

Exactly squonk- they DID have a problem sacked him, & now putting it right.

Plus compensating the customer.

I LIKE companies like that!

But why did it have to be you oj???? grrrrr

VinegarTits · 07/03/2008 11:08

Hi OJ, hope you get things sorted for Steve to come home very very soon, sending lots of love and positive vibes your way, hope you have a good weekend, you and your lovely family will be in my thoughts

onlyjoking9329 · 07/03/2008 12:14

shall I give up trying to sort things out? I ordered a screen for betha ps2 so that I could move it from the portable tv at the breakfast bar which leads into the conservatory as Steve will get no peace if she is in there. Have just set it up and it isn't working, well it works but emits a loud buzzing noise, aaarrrrgggghhhhh.
put your fingers in your ears for I am about to scream.

PMSL at PhD posting women - it's cheaper to DHL them, I am sure.

I seem to remember the hospice staff are well aware of the PITA challenging nature of your MIL, OJ, but certainly worth alerting them and asking them to kick her hard if she starts talking Steve into going home with her. On past performance it would last a matter of hours before she couldn't cope anyway!
