Some say tooth pain is one of the worst pains to have.

What would you say the worst pain is you’ve experienced?

It's a tie between gallstones and being bitten by my cat.

There is a massive difference between a small playful bite and scratch that barely breaks the skin, and a scared angry cat fulling crushing his teeth and claws into your hand, with almost instant tendon infection setting in. DH didn't even notice because I passed out and couldn't call for help.

Oh, there was also the week long migraine when I had the flu. I lay still and prayed for death.

itbemay · 04/10/2022 08:56

Tonsillectomy age 30. Worse than childbirth.

Gallstones pain, induced labour with a back to back baby, dental abcess.

All exactly what I was going to say! plus a dying nerve in a front tooth.

PeloFondo · 04/10/2022 09:15

Cauda equina

Carlycat · 04/10/2022 09:19

Double arm fracture with dislocation. Never knew pain like that existed 😭

Seasidemumma77 · 04/10/2022 09:39

Partially rupturing my calf muscle, was beside myself with the pain in the leg. Toothache/abscesses come a close second. I found the 4dc births far less painful in comparison.

Newuser82 · 04/10/2022 09:42

The most pain I have had was after my second c section. The most horrible/uncomfortable thing I have ever had was an endoscopy without sedation.

Rutland2022 · 04/10/2022 09:49

Childbirth was the worst as it went on for 6hrs but I dislocate my knee frequently and that is worse pain but short lived.
Childbirth at least had a positive spin on it so it wasn’t traumatic. But I had continuous contractions from the start so it wasn’t like the books said!

pimlicoanna · 04/10/2022 09:52

Slicing my eye. Childbirth doesn't compare at all to the pain of that

Flowerytray · 04/10/2022 10:06

I trod on something in the sea in Malaysia and it pierced my foot like a knife. Blood everywhere.
It must have injected poison into my foot as iv never experienced pain like it. It went on for an hour then just stopped.
I never found out what it was but the cut had a serrated edge and I think that it could have been a stone fish.

I would much rather give birth than experience this ever again.

garlictwist · 04/10/2022 05:30

Out of interest, how did you tear your plantar fascia?

@garlictwist in the most mundane way possible - walking around the side of the house. Ground perfectly flat. Extremely loud bang, instant crippling pain. Unable to weight bare etc

Angelofthenortheast · 04/10/2022 10:29

gallstones

SewhereIam · 04/10/2022 10:39

Having my wisdom teeth removed and the gum being sutured too tightly to let it drain. One side of my face was twice as wide as the other with a massive haematoma. Went back to the hospital in the afternoon as couldn't bear it, was told I was being a drama queen over the phone but told to come in anyway. As soon as I got there they rushed me straight in, took 2 stitches out and the relief was insane. I've had 2 babies and this trumped both births.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 04/10/2022 12:00

Impacted wisdom tooth removal. Norovirus also, but more because I just couldn't stop vomiting and wanted to die. Broken foot (didn't realise at time) came a very close third pure agony.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 04/10/2022 12:01

Plantar fasciitis is also bloody painful too and I'd never have thought that either.

Floralnomad · 04/10/2022 12:02

Frostbite , absolute agony .

Oh, there was also the week long migraine when I had the flu. I lay still and prayed for death.

I used to get regular migraines in teens and then when I was in 20s caused by BCP. The pain was awful but when it subsided it was so great that I forgot about it. Even now, someone who asks me about migraines and I say, yes, sledgehammer going into your head continuously. Plus auras and vomiting.

Slipped disk in my back 25 years ago. Three weeks of hell before the pain finally started to subside. Every day I thought about crawling in front of a city bus and ending it all. Labor with DS1 lasted about 20 hours and was really really bad, but that at least had a purpose. This back thing, just no.

@OutOntheTilez - I second the slipped disc pain. It was the first and only time in my life when I have seriously considered ending it all.

Gilm0reGirl · 04/10/2022 12:07

First time I stood up after a Caesarean section. I swear the colour still drains from my face when I think about it.

Shmithecat2 · 04/10/2022 12:10

Dental pain - had an issue with a dying molar about a year ago which took 3 months to resolve. Aside from the odd few hours in those months where the anaesthetic masked the pain, I genuinely wanted to die. The whole experience was quite traumatic, including a failed extraction. I have given birth with zero pain relief, and I'd rather do that again than have the pain from my tooth. When the tooth was finally out, I cried with relief.

Yea! My disc ruptured and compressed my sciatic nerve - three weeks of the worst pain I have ever felt
also thought about ending it if I had to live like this forever ?(pre diagnosis)
Morphine didn’t event touch it :-(

I was literally bed bound and had to crawl everywhere
the worst pain in the world

StarsAtElbowsAndFoot · 04/10/2022 12:11

Pilonidal Sinus Abscess

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 04/10/2022 12:14

Infected cyst in my thumb.

If I’d had an axe I’d have chopped my hand off.

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 04/10/2022 12:15

It was either a perforated eardrum or a boil inside my ear which eventually burst. It felt like my head was under great pressure and about to explode, then I put my head down instinctively on the sore side and then bang! Some fluid poured out. It was during a Bank Holiday weekend so waited until the Tuesday to see a GP which you could fairly quickly in those far off days. I was put on antibiotics for two weeks.

Mommabear20 · 04/10/2022 12:17

Back to back delivery of large baby with no pain relief, he's worth every second of it though ❤️
