Some say tooth pain is one of the worst pains to have.

What would you say the worst pain is you’ve experienced?

Coming round from a general post an operation to put a pin and plate in a broken ankle. I came round without any pain relief and for a couple of minutes, which felt like a lifetime, it was proper 9/10 writhing in agony, gasping, crying pain. The anaesthetists were really sweet and dryly funny so I wasn’t actually that pissed off about it.

After that it’s:

  • having a coil fitted (8.5/10)
  • recent mystery pain/cramps (8.5/10. Nearly passed out). Ovarian torsion initially suspected, then OHSS. It disappeared, remains a bit of mystery.

Biliary colic from Gallstones.
Undoubtedly the worst I've ever experienced.

RebeccaCloud9 · 04/10/2022 05:29

Kidney stones.
.
I've had a long back to back labour and that was hell, and longer lasting. But the kidney stones, during the worst bit, was more painful. Was scarier too - I knew what was happening during childbirth.

Out of all the below, it would be the plantar fascia. That made me scream.

  • Tooth broken in half
  • Tooth abscess
  • broken ribs
  • Tore muscle, ligament and cartilage off ribs and tore a big hole in my pec
  • tore a hole in the muscle over my shoulder blade
  • frozen shoulder
  • tore plantar fascia - it's taken a long time to heal, would have been better if it had snapped apparently

Out of interest, how did you tear your plantar fascia?

A580Hojas · 04/10/2022 05:31

Gallbladder attack, then breaking a toe by stubbing it.

StiggyZardust · 04/10/2022 05:39

The moment my Achilles tendon ruptured. Absolute agony for about an hour.

OldYork · 04/10/2022 05:41

Toothache x 10000000 - way worse than childbirth (induced and put on the dreaded drip thing that makes you have contractions). That was a walk in the park in comparison. Toothache with infected roots and gum is the only moment in my life when the pain was so great, I seriously contemplated death as a positive alternative.

EnormousStuffedMarrow · 04/10/2022 05:45

Gallstones I think. Excruciating and frightening when I didn't know what it was. Definitely thought the pain would kill me.

mickandrorty · 04/10/2022 05:58

kidney stones then tooth ache (why is it called ache? it is not an ache its fucking agony) then childbirth

Fuuuuuckit · 04/10/2022 06:03

Frozen shoulder. The constant un-ending-ness of it. Absolutely broke me physically and mentally.

I'd have both labours again if it would take the frozen shoulder away.

SquishySquashySquishmallow · 04/10/2022 06:06

Scarlet Fever. How I imaging trying to swallow razors over and over would feel .

If I accidentally eat gluten that is a whole night awake in horrific pain with a hot water bottle for company but hasn’t happened for a while thank god.

sarahc336 · 04/10/2022 06:07

Having an exposed nerve after a dental extraction, worse than child birth like a hot poker going up through my eye and head x

Goosygandy · 04/10/2022 06:11

Gallstones and childbirth. With the gallstones I didn't know where to put myself. Awful.

Simonjt · 04/10/2022 06:15

Tonsillitis
Ruptured appendix
Torn glute

LegoFiends · 04/10/2022 06:18

Probably mastoiditis

October2020 · 04/10/2022 06:19

Specifically, the week of pain after having the stent removed after kidney surgery to remove a kidney stone. I genuinely wanted to die when the spasms of pain came and I had a week in hospital on PCA morphine. The kidney stone was sore and the uteroscopy recovery with the stent was bad but the post stent removal colic was indescribable.

Vampirethriller · 04/10/2022 06:21

Abscess in my jawbone that led to sepsis. I was in labour for nearly 3 full days and it was nothing compared to that.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 04/10/2022 06:21

Male - so can't compare childbirth - but Tooth abscess for me, nothing else has ever come near.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 04/10/2022 06:24

Labour. I passed out repeatedly in labour with my first and had no control over my body. The actual pushing with my second was worse though because I had no pain relief (gas and air does fuck all for me) and I thought I was being torn in half.

I’ve been lucky to never break anything though so nothing extreme to compare the pain to.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 04/10/2022 06:25

Oh I should add breastfeeding through tongue tie and bad latch which led to mastitis. The pain was unbelievable!

CourtneeLuv · 04/10/2022 06:27

Cluster headaches.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 04/10/2022 06:27

When I was much younger, having bone marrow taken. Like someone vacuuming my chest out of a pinprick.

FourTeaFallOut · 04/10/2022 06:29

Childbirth and gallstones. In fact, I was frantic that I was about to become one of those crazy stories of surprise babies when the mother never knew she was pregnant when the gallstones hit.

Slipped disk in my back 25 years ago. Three weeks of hell before the pain finally started to subside. Every day I thought about crawling in front of a city bus and ending it all. Labor with DS1 lasted about 20 hours and was really really bad, but that at least had a purpose. This back thing, just no.

Same... I used to say if I had a gun I would have shot myself

2 surgeries later .. I'm pain free .. thank god
