Update on misdees hubby Peter :(

I have had misdee on the phone and she has asked me to update you all.

Peter has been put on the urgent list for a new heart
However, he will only be on the list for 3 weeks. The docs are saying he cannot live on his current VAD machine longer than 3 weeks due to too much build up in his tubes After those 3 weeks they will have to put in a new VAd machine which means more open heart surgery, 3 months recovery and carers and misdee retraining if he wants to come home. He will also be taken off the transplant list for atleast 3 months.

Peter is also considering refusing to let them replace his VAD as he is tired and knows how hard it will be on him and the family. Misdee is very upset by the news and is hoping that a new heart comes in the next 3 weeks so they dont have to consider any options. Peter is the only one waiting for a heart right now but she has told me that no heart transplants have happened in the last 3 months
This is a devastating blow for them, as they were hoping urgent list for longer as it increases his chance of transplant.

Sparkleygothcat (misdee's big sis) is away with family but if you want to email me (her lit sis) I will pass on any messages when is ee her tomorrow.

Lisa

justine and kerrie from mn towers are both journalists aren't they? They must have some appropriate contacts to cover this story? bbc, gmtv, unfortunately is school holidays so no this morning but ... there is so much media in this country - we should be able to utilise it?

PenelopePitstops · 26/07/2007 17:35

thinking if them all at this difficult time

is there anything we can do?

aloha · 26/07/2007 17:35

How about a national appeal? Would a transplant charity help? British Heart Foundation?

Whizzz · 26/07/2007 17:36

Please pass on our thoughts & here's hoping for some positive news

aloha · 26/07/2007 17:36

Would they want to do that?

JARM · 26/07/2007 17:36

All my love and hopeful thoughts as always.

I really hope this will happen xxx

lisad123 · 26/07/2007 17:36

the local paper are wonderful, i think it needs to be national too. Its such a short deadline, maybe the right person will see it and help.
I will pass on the prays and thoughts to Sarah.

Seriously, there isn't much news about at the moment, I think this could be story, if anyone thinks it might help.

PollyLogos · 26/07/2007 17:38

really hope that that call comes through soon misdee and Peter. Thinking of you all.

bundle · 26/07/2007 17:39

I've just sent an email to the local paper lisa123 posted, asking them to update the story.

wannaBe · 26/07/2007 17:40

aloha I guess it depends on how misdee feels about putting herself in the spotlight. if this is going to be made national news then she will need to be available for interviews/comments, and once one national picks it up, others will so this might utilise a lot of her time, time which she may not want to spend away from Peter at this stage. I guess someone would need to put the idea to her first before running with it.

meowmix · 26/07/2007 17:41

why not try Woman's Hour, local radio, Capital (they're near London aren't they so should be in Capital range)

or call a PR agency and see if they can help as a pro bono. I don't have numbers but the ones that seem most likely:

Freuds
Red Consultancy
Edelman
Hill & Knowlton
Lewis PR

vino · 26/07/2007 17:41

Wishing for a positive outcome for them all.

edam · 26/07/2007 17:42

Am so sorry there's no better news for Peter and Misdee. Hoping very hard Peter gets his transplant soon.

lisad123 · 26/07/2007 17:43

I will certainly ask her about updating local paper and possibel national coverage when i see her tomorrow. I think Peters mum and dad would need to be ok with it first too. Its a hard time for them all and i think any decision right now is going to be difficult.
