Just watched the weather and it is going to be pissing down tomorrow morning when I usually run with a friend. I haven't run since Tuesday and gave myself a couple of days off as I really overdid it on Sunday and my legs just would not work on Tuesday. But I don't want to leave it till Saturday. Bloody rain! I am annoyed now.

Twink · 17/05/2007 22:56

Spooky, not been on Mumsnet for a VERY long time, then find a running thread in active conversations and suddenly find myself drawn back in..

Hello to all the old bunch and pleased to see a lot of newbies too. Esp thanks to Gizmo for remembering me

Been busy with illness but raced a duathalon at the weekend, off-road in the pouring rain, finishing was GREAT...

popsycal · 18/05/2007 07:11

HI everyone

I have a list of trainers that are good for overpronaters which I am going to go armed with and try some on. If they fit I mat be able to get them cheaper online

Wore knee supports at work yesterday and i feel a lort better this mornng
I need to run tonight but am debating whether that is a good idea...

ThatBeetroot · 18/05/2007 07:31

i am really struggling to get myself motivated to run today - am so tired.

glitterfairy · 18/05/2007 07:45

Hiya Beets. I think you should listen to your body. This week I have gone back to basics and varied my training more with more cycling, swimming and gym and less running and yesterday went for a two mile run and really enjoyed it.

I also realised that I had been running too fast and concentrating on speed had been at the expense of endurance. You have been building speed up recently and I wonder if you have not hit a bit of a wall and need to slow down again and ease up to enjoy your running and distance once more.

ThatBeetroot · 18/05/2007 09:50

glitter - that is exactly what I have been doing - going for speed. Today I did 5 miles at a slow pace and was knackered but pleased I did it

popsycal · 18/05/2007 11:53

bought some trainers
reebok premier plus road runners kfs - support for moderate overpronators which is what i think i am

fingers crossed

paddingtonbear1 · 18/05/2007 12:07

Hi Twink, nice to see you back!
seems a long time since we did the FLM! I don't come on here that often now either, cos I don't run much anymore - got into my cycling again (which is what I used to do before running). It seems to suit my knees better! I might try short distances again over the summer, though.

MingMingtheWonderPet · 18/05/2007 12:19

Hi Twink, good to see you back.
(I was JoPG when I did the FLM last year)

AnnaPhylactic · 18/05/2007 13:15

Well I did 2 miles this morning and after speaking to a friend earlier today have agreed to train with her for a 10k, thankfully the big event isn't till March so plenty of time to build up stamina.

MaryHinge · 18/05/2007 16:47

TWINK - oh I've missed you I posted a 'wonder where she is?' a little while ago, on the last thread I think.

How's things?

It's saggar BTW

popsycal · 18/05/2007 16:53

just tried to run
ran for 1 minute then had o come home
my knees are shot even with proper trqainers
am very p'd off

mustrunmore · 18/05/2007 18:13

Oh Now whats your plan?I'm praying I'll be able to run without an ankle in agony tonight...

glitterfairy · 18/05/2007 18:17

Well done beets!

I have had such a busy week but next week looks a little freer and will up my running again then. Saturday and Sunday are my big days in any case.

Have a 10k in four weeks now so need to do more work!

popsycal · 18/05/2007 19:39

i think i am going to have to rest and take nurofen and I suppose i ought to see the doctor argh

Pidge · 18/05/2007 19:42

Yikes - this is becoming an injury thread!

Shuffles off to quaff much wine and chocolate, and threatens to turn into blob after ending the FLM training all lean and toned!

(PS Welcome back Twink!!!)

popsycal · 18/05/2007 20:22

i have a dilemma argh
thought i had bought shoes for moderate overpronating...told woman in shop what my problem was and how it was really important etc and she assured me that yes, they were the right shoe

just checked and they are not - they are neutral with a little support for slight overpronation.
I have literlly gone one minute down the street in them
the soles are fine
i have wiped them too.....

can i take them back?!!?
bloody hell
hate dilemmas like this
my feeling is that i will try....

mustrunmore · 18/05/2007 20:25

God, of course you can take them back! Esp given that she told you they were the right shoe.

popsycal · 18/05/2007 20:30

but i have been outside.....albeit for only 1 minute....

anyway does anyone have any experience/opinions on the following shoes (all right ones for me going cheap online...)

  1. reebok lady premier dmx satbility
  2. nike lady air stassis (local nike factory shop may have it cheaper still....
  3. brooks lady addiction running shoe
  4. \link{http://www.sportsshoes.com/product/?product_code=NEW386B\New Balance W857 (B) Road Running Shoe
popsycal · 18/05/2007 20:30

New Balance W857 (B) Road Running Shoe

2boysmacca · 18/05/2007 20:56

Not posted before, but have been watching your thread. I have the same problem and was fitted out with these at my local running shop. They definitely feel better pronation

DeviousDaffodil · 18/05/2007 21:02

I swear by the New Balance shoes.
DH has agreed that I can buy a treadmill. Yippee!
Just have to find one within my budget.
(For rainy days only btw)

deegward · 18/05/2007 21:04

Little hijack, doing my first triathlon tomorrow morning, and absolutely bricking it. The running part is my worst part

popsycal · 18/05/2007 21:21

2boysmacca - thank for the recommendation
your name freaked me out a little as i could be you...

2boysmacca · 18/05/2007 21:27

I do have 2 personalities so maybe we are the same?
